Basic personality;;
Reece is a shy soul. He lives on his own, in
a very secluded cave, just up the hill from "his"
beach. He's always been bullied and teased
because of his tail. He has a mutation that
none of the others seem to have. At least,
none that he's every met. Reece has a
mermaid tail. He still has four legs, but
instead of the fluffy end to a normal Viscet's
tail, he has two fins, much like those of a
mermaid. He likes to associate it with his
love of the ocean and the beach, and always
tries to hide the fact he was kicked out of
his pack because of it. Reece has never had
great self-confidence, but recently he's been
gaining confidence as his friendships grow. he's
not afraid of humans, and actually likes them quite
a bit. You'll most often see him on his own, because
he's too scared to talk to Viscets most of the time. He's
scared of being judged or abandoned by his friends.
Up until Reece found out that he belonged by the sea,
he always felt that he never belonged anywhere.
Reece spends a lot of his time on the beach.

songPrologue;; In the beginning---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The egg shook gently, swaying back and forth. Two proud
parents watched as it is rocked, a thin crack appearing
on it's creamy side. Blue and red spots covered the
otherwise cream shell, and three little water droplet
markings were splashed across the top of the shell, their
color transforming from red to blue; top to bottom. Another
thin crack appeared, followed by another shake of the egg
as it fell over onto it's side. A few more minutes passed as the
egg shook and more thin cracks appeared. Suddenly, a small
redish purple snout broke through the weakened shell layer.
Two dazzling pink eyes appeared next, staring up at the two
Viscets with a sense of wonder. 'It's a girl!' The father
said with glee, delighted at the thought of a second daughter.
The viscet pair had already had one girl, and she had been
the light of their life. She was quiet and loving and she never
had been a problem. They had seen what the males of the pack
had been like; rowdy, noisy and so on. The mother seemed less
enthusiastic as a sense of worry crept through her. The little
Viscling seemed to be struggling to get out of it's shell. At this
stage, it had managed to wiggle the rest of it's head and neck
out of the shell, but it's body didn't seem to want to come out.
She nudged the Viscling gently, trying to encourage it to keep
trying. It looked as if it was dancing as it wriggled around,
struggling to squeeze out of the shell. It pushed it weight against
the shell desperate to break free. It was a vicious cycle. The more
the Viscling struggled, the more stuck it got, the more stuck it got,
the more frightened it became, and the more frightened it became,
the more it struggled. It whined quietly as it pulled a paw free from
it's egg prison and used it's shoulder to break a part of the shell to free
another paw. Two paws free. it's small torso wriggled free next,
and after a few more encouraging nudges from it's mother, two
back paws followed. both mother and father were shocked when
the tail wouldn't slide out easily. the fur should have flattened against
the tail and slid out easily, but it wasn't. The tail raised and lowered,
hitting off the ground and shattering the egg. The Viscling fell
forward, head over tail and when it stopped moving, it stared up
at the horror stricken face of it's father. It was not a girl. But that's
not what horrified the father. It didn't have a normal Viscet tail.
Instead of the soft furry tip, this Viscling had two mermaid-like
fins. The father looked to the mother, who had moved over to comfort
the now crying Viscling. 'We must get rid of it' He said firmly,
lips curling up in anger. The deep pink eyes of it's mother met the
fathers eyes, and the mother pulled the Viscling closer to her. 'Over
my dead body' She snarled, standing protectively over her child. The
father sighed, seeing no sense in fighting. if she wanted to keep the
creature, she could, but he would not be seen as it's father. He turned
away from her, and as he did he spoke his last words to her. 'he is completely
your responsibility. I will not be his father'.

songChapter one;; A rough start---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arrel watched her son as he ran out of the den,
finned tail bouncing up and down as he ran. He
seemed so happy, even though none of the other
Visclings played with him. He wasn't allowed on
any of the learning trips or hunts, and he was
excluded from the juniors den. he had always been
so positive, and Arrel couldn't figure out why. his
life was horrible, yet above it all he kept his head
up, kept a smile on his little face. He'd help his
mother out with the jobs she would do around the
packs camp, and he would never complain when he
had to eat his food in their den on his own. He was
pushed away by everyone except Arrel. Sometimes she
wished she could ask him why, but she knew he didn't
understand what was happening. His horrible life had
been her fault. It was her fault he was excluded from
everything. She had been determined to keep him, even
though he was different. She thought he deserved a life.
When she had brought him back to camp, everyone was
horrified, just like Kael had been. They didn't want him
in their pack. Kael wouldn't help her, not even with choosing
his name. So she cared for him all on her own. She even
had to hunt for him, as well as the rest of the pack. tears
brimmed her eyes as she thought about him. her eyes
stared straight ahead focusing on a scene that had happened
only months before. 'Momma..?' A small voice said, worry
in the young voice. Max stood beside her, looking up at her
with dazzling pink eyes. 'Momma, what's wrong?' He said,
as she glanced down at him, sadness in her eyes. 'Nothing,
sweetheart, I'm fine' She said, nuzzling his ear gently before
forcing a smile on her face. 'Go and see if you can find any
leaves for the new bedding' She said, and the young Viscling
took off at a run, happy to have a job to do. She sighed and
stood up, leaving the den and padding out towards the forest.
if she was going to feed Max tonight, she had to go hunting now.
He was old enough to hunt on his own, but no one had taught him
how, and she had only been teaching him for a short while. He
wasn't ready. She headed out through the forest, scenting the air
for prey. She was so focused on finding food for Max, that she didn't
see the dark pelted Viscet creeping up behind her until she felt
his claws in her pelt. She yelped and turned, trying to throw
him off, but he was too heavy. He pushed her against the ground,
pinning her down. She managed to look up at his face as he
raised his claws, ready to strike. 'k-Kael?' She gasped,
hurt filling her. 'This is for your own good, Arrel' He snarled,
and brought down his claws. She screamed, filling the forest with
her cry of pain. He leapt off her back and raced back towards the
camp. Anyone would have heard her scream. Kael arrived back at
camp in time to see Max racing off towards the forest. max ran
fast, following the sound of the fading scream. He arrived at the
scene just as his mother propped herself up against a tree. max..'
She whispered, reaching out a shaky paw towards him. 'Everythings gonna
be alright momma...' He said, choking back tears, 'Everything will
be fine..'. 'How.. how are you so positive?' she asked, coughing
as blood trickled down her side. 'I'm positive for you, momma' He said,
as the first tears ran down his cheeks. She had gotten the answer she'd always
wanted to know. 'Somebody help!' he called out as she began to fall
back against the ground. 'Somebody!' He yelled, tears streaming down
his face now. After a few minutes of screaming for help, a few of the packs Viscets
arrived. At the sight of the blood, one of the Viscets sprinted away. The other two
stared at Max, hatred in their eyes. He looked at them desperately as they watched
him helplessly try and help Arrel. She was dying. 'Please.. Please help her..'
He cried, pleading them. No one moved. he shook her gently, and placed his paws
over the wound, trying to stop the blood flow. Suddenly he was torn away, pushed
to the side as a strong male looked down at his mother. 'Arrel!' Kael said,
frozen in place with fake shock. He looked at Max and his now bloody paws and
snarled. 'You killed my mate!' Kael snarled, anger in his worse. 'N-No! No,
I was trying to save her' max cried desperately as more Viscets appeared through
the bushes. 'You killed your mother!' Kael snarled, and soon the whole pack
were yelling and shouting at him. 'P-Please! I d-didn't do anything to hurt her!'
He said, shaking. He backed up as the male approached him again, hatred seeping through
his bones. Max tripped over, crawling backwards as the large dark Viscet growled. max
turned and fled as the Viscet lunged, pulling back slightly as he landed. 'Stay away from
this pack. If I see you again, I'll kill you' The brute roared after him, and Max ran faster,
and faster until he was running as fast as he small paws could carry him. He ran for as long
as he could before collapsing in an abandoned nest by the edge of the forest. He lay down and
wept, for his fallen mother, and his old home, for his mis-fortune and for everything. He was all alone...
All alone.

songChapter two;; on the road---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Max ran down the empty highway, leaving
the looming trees behind him. He wanted
to get as far away as possible from the
eerie forest as he could before all the light
was gone. He had already managed to get
out of the maze of trees and overgrown bushes
but he had lost a lot of time trying to avoid
all of the dangers of the forest. he had wanted
to just get out and into open space. he
didn't want to spend another night in the
horrid place. He couldn't find anywhere to
sleep, he was starving and freezing, not to
mention all the predators that could easily
find him. He wasn't used to being on his own,
but with no family, and no pack, he would
have to learn, and fast. The road began to
rumble and max ducked to the side as a red
vehicle roared past, wheels rolling. he shuddered
at the thought of being caught underneath one of
those monsters. he perked up his ears to listen out
for anymore before running again. he could've
probably kept running even when the cars passed,
but he was so scared of them, and their loudness that
he had to stop every time. He ran on further, getting
farther and farther away from the forest as the sun
began to set on the horizon. He ran for what seemed
like days before the moon was up in the sky, and he
decided he'd have to call it a night and find somewhere
to shelter for the night. He searched around in the dark
for a while before finally found a small ditch at the side
of the road. After a moment of trying to slide down
carefully, he managed to scramble down and curl up
in a corner. He placed his tail over his snout, covering
his whole face. Fresh tears began to fall as he slowly
drifted off to sleep...
He woke with a start, heart beating fast, as if he'd just
won a marathon, and his eyes stared at the swirls of blue
on his finned tail. He slowly lowered his tail and relaxed
as he realized it was just a nightmare. He was still alive..
He shook his muddy pelt and began to climb back up
towards the road. He began to walk down the side of the
road again. He thought about the events of the past few days.
he had spent two full days curled up in the abandoned nest,
crying then sleeping, and waking up and crying again. he had
finally realized he would die if he didn't find food and a proper
shelter soon, and he ended up staying an extra day, as he wasn't
sure if he could do anything without his mother with him. Any other
viscet of his age would be able to survive on their own, but they had
all had training. It was so unfair. Life was so cruel. As he thought
about it, he began to unconsciously veer sideways, into
on-coming traffic. Cars zoomed past, but soon he was in
the middle of it. A large car was hurtling towards him, but
he was so focused on how unfair life was, he didn't see it coming.
He looked up suddenly, shocked out of his thoughts as a golden Viscet
crashed into him, sending them both crashing into the ground on the
other side of the road. 'W-Who are you?' max asked as he righted
himself and looked at the larger Viscet. The male smiled slightly and replied,
'I'm Jiskra, you lost?'. Max only nodded and stared at Jiskra in awe.
Jiskra smiled again as he spoke. 'Come with me, kid, I can show somewhere
safe to stay for a while' he said, and max nodded, following him off the road
towards a safe haven. Maybe Jiskra was his light in the darkness....

songChapter 3;; a new hope
'So, what's your name?' Jiskra asked as
they arrived at the house-like caves. They were
tall, and wide, and they looked quite homely.
'My name is m-' max started before
stopping. he didn't want to have anything
to do with his past life, so why should he
keep his name? It was jusr as much a part
of his past as anything else about him, so
if he wanted a new start, he better change
everything. 'I'm Reece' He said, as
his stomach rumbled. 'I'm starving' he
said, gaining a bit of confidence from Jiskra's
smile. 'You can go hunting in the woods there'
Jiskra said, pointing to the woods just a short walk
away from where they were. Max, no, Reece nodded
and entered the cave. He would go hunting in a few
minutes. He wanted to get to know his new home
a bit before wandering off to find food. Plus, he
still didn't know exactly how he was going to get
food. He remembered teh basics his mother taught
him, but he had never been any good at hunting.
The cave was spacious, with lots of light. There were
glow bugs and lanterns throughtout the cave, and there
was even a nest already inside. It seemed like an amazing
place to live, and after a small sniff around the cave,
he left the cave. he didn't want to admit to his new friend
that he couldn't hunt. After a shiort walk to the forest,
he began to look around for food. He scented the air and
scanned the undergrowth, but couldn't see anything. In all
fairness, he was being quite loud, so he couldn't blame all
the prey for not being there. He spent about 20 minutes
searching before something red and green caught his eye.
It was a bush. A bush full of berries. He ran over, excitment
bubbling inside of him (although it could have just been hunger).
He sniffed around the oh so appealing fruits, remembering his mothers
warning about poisonous berries, and when they seemed to be alright, he
decided that he would taste them. After picking a few off, he tasted them,
and they tasted amazing. They were juicy and fresh and sharp.
he was glad he had found them. He began stuffing his face full
of berries, and when he was finished, it looked as if he'd just
eaten a rabbit with the amount of red around his mouth. he licked
his lips and sat down. His luck was imporving. Maybe he wouldn't
be as unfortunate as he had thought he would end up. he made his
way back towards the cave, going at a slightly slower pace. Once
he arrived back, he decided a small nap couldn't do him any harm.
He curled up in the nest, and closed his eyes. It was the first of many
times he would fall asleep inside the warm, cosy den of his new home.
he finally knew where he belonged. he belonged here. right where he was.
Luck was coming. But that's not all that was coming...

songChapter 4;; the chase
Yawning, Reece opened his pink eyes and looked
around him. He saw the warm orange glow of the
lanterns and smiled. This was his second week of
being in his new home, and he hadn't had nightmares
for almost 9 days. That was a great achievement.
He liked the think it was because of Jiskra next door,
but really it was mainly because of the soft glowing
lights and the quiet sound of water dripping from the
roof. He had been learning to hunt over the last two
weeks, and had even managed to catch a few mice and
a rabbit. He had grown quite a bit in those two weeks,
and he had decided that when a month had gone by, he
would try and hunt some deer. Starting small was his
best option, and it had payed off so far. He stretched
out his paws and shook his fur before standing up and
padding to the front of his home. Jiskra didn't seem
to be around, so he decided that a hunt was in store.
He made his way down the usual route to the forest,
becoming quieter the closer he got the large expanse
of green. He could see no prey, but his other senses were
working overtime. he could hear something moving in the
undergrowth around him, and he could smell a mouse nearby.
Putting them both together, he waited until he saw the small
brown shape moving around, before he lunged. He caught it
swiftly between his claws, and he dealt the killing blow. He was
satisfied with just the one mouse, he decided to go home.
He arrived back home, mouse in mouth, and saw something
that scared him, and angered him at the same time. There
was a Viscet in his home. The 'cet was bigger than him,
'hey! Who are you?' Reece yelped dropping
his food in surprise. The Viscet turned and stared at him in surprise.
'What are you doing in my house?' they growled, instantly
taking up the defensive. Reece narrowed his eyes and
growled. 'Your house? this is my home' He growled,
putting one paw over the mouse. 'I have lived here for
three years, back off' The Viscet snarled and lunged forward.
Reece scrambled backwards. 'get out of my home!' The viscet snarled
as reece attempted to get inside. Reece turned and ran as the
Viscet gave chase. He yelped as the Viscet began to catch
up, but Reece pushed on a bit more speed and headed
for the forest. The chase continued and the male
that had chased Reece had slowly started to stop.
Reece had made it out of the forest, but he kept running, panic
fueling him. His home.. it was gone...

songChapter 5;; human encounters
After spending three days back on the road,
Reece wanted nothing more than a soft bed
and a warm cave to lie down and sleep in. He
didn't think that was too much to ask for,
especially because of everything else he
should've and could've wanted. Like his
mother for example, or a better life. But,
he knew he wouldn't just get all of the
things he wanted. If had learned anything
from his miserable life, it was that of something
doesn't go your way, or someone doesn't give
you something, you have to do it or get it
yourself, no matter how hard it is or how
long it takes. He knew he shouldn't give
up, but really, he just wanted to lie down
at the side of the road and stay there, forever.
he didn't want to have to think about life or finding
a home. he didn't want to have to think about
anything, really. He stopped for a moment on the
corner of the road, taking a quick break. That's
when the headlights shone onto him. A 4x4 jeep
pulled up behind him, and he yelped, backing up.
A young female got out of the car and knealt
down beside the wheels. 'hey there little guy'
her soft voice calmed him slightly. Curiosity took
over as she reached out her hand gently and held it
there for him to sniff. His nostrils moved as he breathed
in, soaking up her scent. She was odd. He had never
really met a human before. His mother had always
warned him not to go near them because they were
dangerous. But, for some reason, this one didn't seem
to be dangerous. She was wearing watermelon denim
Shorts and a white top that showed her belly button.
She had two golden rings on her fingers and long ombré
hair that reached her lower back. Her soft sea green
eyes watched him as he came a small bit closer and sniffed
her knees. She seemed happier with that. Reece felt as if she
had sat there for almost an hour before finally deciding
to trust her. She picked him up gently and put him into
her car before closing the doors and heading back onto
the road. At first he found it scary, watching the bushes and
road move past the window so quickly, by after a short
while he got used to it. He didn't want to get his hopes up
but in the back off mind, he wondered if he had finally
found the right place.

songChapter 6;; down hill
Stretching out his paws, Reece blinked his pink
eyes open. The face of his owner looked down
at him, and the red leather collar and bell jingled
around his neck. He yawned and got up from
the bed, jumping down to the ground and heading
through to the kitchen to his bowl. he had gotten
used to the kind of food she fed him, and had
even started to like it. He had been living with
his owner in a semi-detached brick house, almost
two hours away from where she had found him
two full years ago. She had helped him back to
full health, and she even got him presents during
winter, which he found an odd but liked human
tradition. He liked to help her set up all the
decorations that she put up during the last month
of winter. He had never understood it, but he
enjoyed it none the less. She would go out
every morning and come back in the afternoon
and as soon as she came home, they'd go out
for a run. She was quite fast for a human, but
he still always had to circle back to her if he
went at his full speed. He had become stronger
and happier as the months and weeks had gone by,
and now he was as happy as he thought possible.
Yesterday had been a bit odd, as she hadn't gone
to work, nor for a run, but he knew today would
be back to normal. He ate up before heading back
through to the room and nudging her hand. She opened
her eyes to look at him, and then checked the time
on her clock. She sighed and stroked his head before
rolling back over and wrapping the pillow around herself.
frowning, he climbed up onto the bed and curled up beside
her. Maybe today was her day off? She had days off sometimes.
He rested his nose on his paws and slowly drifted back
to sleep, with her arm wrapped around him. he woke up
a few hours later and she was sitting on the end of the bed,
talking on the phone. She was just hanging up when he
padded over to sit beside her. It was mid-evening. He
couldn't believe he had slept in for so long. Suddenly, she
got up and and walked out of the room, quickly moving.
Following after her, he realized she was heading for the door.
maybe she was going for a walk!! He raced after her but
she closed the door in his face before he could get out. He
wiggled his nose and ran to the window, staring after her.
She had gotten in the car and was driving out of the drive way as
he watched. he knew it couldn't be good, whatever was
happening. He ate again before letting himself out the back
door, a trick she had taught him as soon as she found the time.
It was a good trick to know, in case he wanted extra exercise,
or needed to use the bathroom before she was home in the afternoon.
He ran around the garden, used the bathroom and ran around the
garden again for two hours before he heard her car pull up in
the driveway again. He raced back inside, pulling the door
closed as he went in. She didn't stop to speak with him as she
went straight back through to her bed and lay down. She was
asleep in less than an hour and he sat by the window watching
the stars before falling asleep, on the floor. When he woke up in
the morning, the same thing happened when he tried to wake her
up, and his day was almost the exact same as the day before. And
this started happening everyday, until it had been almost two weeks
of sleeping in, no leaving in the morning and no runs. He wasn't too
worried, as she was still feeding him, and stroking him and allowing
him on the bed, and she still got up in the morning. That was until one
morning, when he tried to wake her, and she didn't move. She didn't
even flinch at his wet nose or his soft touch. He kept trying until the
phone rung. She would definitely get up to answer, or, at least he
thought she would. The phone stopped ringing a few minutes later,
and her hand began to twitch. Around a half-an-hour later, people barged
through the door, and Reece growled, standing protectivly by his owner.
Two men managed to get close, and pin him down as he thrased and
snapped his jaws. His owner was beginning to wake, and she reached
out her hand as a muzzle was placed over him. There were tears in her eyes
as she touched his head, stroking his ears down and staring into his terrified
eyes before whispering three words that broke his heart, 'I'm sorry, bud'.
They took her from the room, and tied him with a leash to the bed,
so he couldn't follow. He stared after them as they left, and tugged and tugged
against the leash until he managed to break free. He then scrambled to get the muzzle
off his mouth. Once he got it off, he raced out the door, following her scent. He
followed the scent to the top of the road before it disappeared, mixing with other scents.

songChapter 7;; finally home
The streets were dark, brightened only by the
faint flicker of the broken street lamps and the
silver glow of the moon and stars far, far above.
Reece's paw pads were burning and sore from
walking all day. For the sixth day in a row, he
had walked almost from dawn until dusk. Only
stopping to drink, eat and sleep. Sleep was short,
and nightmare filled. Every horrid thing that had
happened in his life, replayed themselves every
night, torturing him while he slept, and sometimes
waking him up, drenched in sweat and tears, panicking.
He was getting closer to the scent and sounds he
had been following all day. The soft sound of waves
seemed to soothe him, and he seemed drawn to
the salty sea air smell. He could see the glistening
water on the horizon as he walked. After a few minutes,
he moved over to the side of the road and lay down.
Sleep came quickly, and he was out like a light in
less than twenty minutes....
--------------------------------------------
When he woke, the sun was rising over the mountains, and
he took in the beautiful sight. The horizon was painted with
orange, yellow and red, and all the colors mixed together
beautifully. After a few minutes watching the sky, he got
up and stretched. His feet still ached, but it wasn't as bad
as it had been the day before, so he started walking back
in the direction he had been heading, quickening his pace
a small bit. He was still a bit distraught after the panic of
the week before, but he was calming down slightly, and his
snout was no longer sore from the muzzle that he had worn.
He didn't know if his owner was still alive, or what the people
had done to her, but he was trying his very best to not think the
worst. As he walked, he thought back to his mother. She was
his hero then, and she still was these few years later. He remembered
her quite well. Before he realized it, he was almost at the top
of the hill that he had seen up ahead the day before. The sea shone
below and he took off at a run, jumping over bumps in the sandy grassy
slope as he raced towards the water. He was drawn to it's glistening
surface and soft sandy paths. Once he hit the water, he swam farther out,
using his tail and paws to gain speed. He had always known that water
was where he belonged, but he hadn't known about the sea
when he was younger, due to the fact his pack had lived so far into
the forest. His mother had told him storys about the great waters,
but he had always assumed it was just a river or lake. He ducked under
and came back out a few times before coming out of the water. His thoughts
were slightly jumbled, but he felt much better after the swim. he had
learned to swim in the small stream and river near his old packs camp.
He searched around the beach for a while, for a place to make his home,
when he realized that there were people swarming the sandy shore-line.
He couldn't stay here. It wasn't safe. But he didn't want to leave. The beach
looked so peaceful. he snuck back out from the beach and headed up the hill.
He reached the top and moved round to a spot where he could look out to sea.
As he walked around towards a ledge, he realized that there was something
jutting out from the ground. At first, he thought it was some sort of rock,
but with closer inspection, he realized that it was a sort of cave area. he
padded inside and sniffed around. There was a stale rabbit scent, but other than
that it just smelled like the sea. Slowly, he sniffed around and it seemed perfect.
It was the perfect. He sat down on the small ledge and watched the children and
adults alike playing in the water and the sand. His life was looking up at last, and
while there would obviously still be some ups and downs, he knew he was finally home...
