Jack Gallows / The Broken Bridge / Jakub and Tenebris

Jack peeked his head over the cliff before ducking back down to safety. The two dramatic sorcerers were staring each other down, and aside from the action everywhere else it seemed that there was a tenseness in the air yet to be broken. Jack could almost see the magical power that was waiting to be unleashed. But there was nothing he could do about it. He was stuck on a cliff, in the one scenario he was sure he couldn't help. Jack would have laughed at the irony of it if he hadn't been so frustrated. He punched the rock in futile anger before hanging down further on the ladder formerly known as a bridge.
What was he supposed to do? Sulk Tenebris to death? Mope his way across the entire chasm? Jack looked down at the lack of ground beneath him. The cliff was steeper than a 90° angle, actually getting farther away from the opposite side the further it went down. No hope of getting anywhere that way... unless... Jack swung himself on the ladder a little bit. His feet could just touch the cliff face where he was at. If he continued a pattern of swinging where he could touch and then climbing lower to where he could touch the rock on the more violent swing back to the cliff, Jack was sure he could jump to the broken bridge hanging off the other side! Pretty sure. Mostly sure it was possible. Probably.
Well, if he'd wanted to turn his back on being a hero then he should have gotten back in that barrel a long time ago. Gritting his teeth, Jack started to kick off of the rock face.

To be continued...
(Why the heck does everyone punctuate their posts with this now?)

Journeyman Ferondir of Mira ~ Beyond the Portal

The song echoed from the top of the academy tower.
"What the...?"
He entered, still unnerved by the hostile eyes following him.
The moment the door shut being him, a hand grabbed his shoulder and a second covered his mouth.
#NopeNopeNope
He turned, grabbed the arm of his assailant, twisted it behind his or her back, and shoved him or her into the nearest wall.
"The heck!" A familiar voice said, "Get off me, man."
"Yami?" Ferondir let him go and took in the sight of his classmate and rival. "What are you doing here?" He took note of his friend's ripped and worn clothing. "What happened to you?"
"I'm looking for someone. Long story. Demons. The Guild fell. I lost Sutā."
"Oh." Ferondir looked somber. "Is your apprentice..."
"No! No, no. She's alive, just..."
"Just what?"
"She's been possessed."
"Oh." Ferondir said, lamely.
"Yeah..."
"Are you--"
"Oh, s***, GET DOWN!" Yami pointed his wand past Ferondir.
Ferondir flattened himself to the ground, as the far wall exploded.
"Come on!" Yami grabbed his arm and dragged him to his feet. "MOVE!"
They ran up the stairs and into the tower room.
Yami slammed the door behind them and poured some black powder along the foot of the entry. "Pepper corns," Yami explained. "This particular beast hates them."
"Twili-hounds?"
"Yep."
They turned to face the room. A man stood behind a worktable had been set up in the center, and stretched out on the table was...
Ferondir's brow creased in anger, his mouth opened slightly, and he felt himself begin to rush forward.
To be continued...

Journeyman Ferondir of Mira ~ Beyond the Portal

Freya was tied to the table, looking very battered.
From what he could tell, she was unconscious.
He rushed to her side.
Wasn't she dead? Apperently not.
"What are you doing?" He looked up into th face ofthe man, who wore long leather gloves, and was holding a small cerimonial knife.
Wait... who was that? Had they met before?
"Only what must be done." He lowered the knife to Freya's face, and, with his other hand, tilted her head from side to side, like a carver over a block of stone.
Ferondir shoved him back, hard. "Get off her!" He couldn't stand seeing his mother like this, even if this was imposible.
The knife skittered across the stone floor.
The man hit the wall with an "Ough."
Ferondir frowned at him.
White hair, that superior tone, the bright eyes.
The way he exhaled.
"Zephyrus."
It wasn't a question.
The middle aged man looked up, and squinted at him.
A flicker of recognition, quickly hidden.
"I don't know anyone by that name." The man said.
"Yeah?" Ferondir challenged.
The man ignored him, and retrieved his knife.
Upon turning back, he noticed the sword of power at Ferondir's side.
"Here's the idea. It's simple. I won't have to do this if you let that go."
"What? Let what go?"
"Give it to me." The man who loked like Zeph said. "Give me the sword of power, and I can spare your dear mother." He took a step toward Ferondir.
"No. I can't. I need to..."
Could his mother really be saved?
"My friends... I couldn't possibly..." He slipped the blade out of it's sheath, and stared at it. Unlike the sword of Wisdom, it didn't hum. Quiet as a grave. It was her or this.
The white haired man could see his conflict.
"That's it, Ferondir." The man said. "Just hand it to me."
Yami had been silent until now. "Who would you be if she'd lived?"
Ferondir lowered the sword.
"I'd be... I wouldn't have studied magic. I'd just be a guard like my father was."
"You'd never have met me." Yami said. "You'd never have met Súta and them."
"I'd never have met any of them." Not Veneficus, not Jakub, not Jack, not Della.
Not Shia.
He looked up at the man, determined.
"I wish I could spend more time with my mother. But there's no way I'd trade anything for my comrades." His eyes turned to the woman on the table. "Not even her." He took the knife from the man, and stabbed it into the table. "Do what you will." He sheathed the blade, turned his back, and moved toward the door.
"You always were too stuborn for your own good."
A thud, a splatter, and a prolonged scream.
Ferondir didn't dare to turn around to face them. He shut the door behind him.
"Yami." Ferondir said. "You're looking in the wrong place. You'll find her at Death Mountain."

A Tower

The world faded, and Ferondir sat up.
Had that really been a dream?

(One long post full of what Mostache likely considers dramatic garbage coming right up)
(If you don't care about the portal stuff and only want to read what you may or may not need to know, read the first and last paragraph and ignore the rest)

Shiallia - Death Mountain - Everyone Left

Shia had a really bad feeling about the dark portal in front of her, and she'd learned to trust her instincts... Screw it, this isn't about me. She stepped forward, and was immediately surrounded by darkness.

Shiallia - Home - ???

She wasn't sure when she'd fallen, but she was on the ground. What was that? Huh... I feel... weird. She tried to stand up, but she stumbled and fell again. Why am I so small?
"You alright there?"
She stiffened. A boy, around 10 or 12, was looking down at her. He smiled when he realized she was watching. "That looked painful." He held out a hand to help her up.
She shrunk away from it, shocked. It's you!" she hissed, feeling for her knife.
He backed away, confused and hurt. "Well... Yeah," he mumbled. "I do live here, you kn-"
Shia stood, stumbling into the wall to stand up. "I hate you!"
He stared for a moment, clearly shocked. "Why would you s-say that? It's not like you to be so m-mean..." He looked really upset, and Shia almost felt bad...
"What's all this about?" A woman stood in the doorway, glaring at the two. "Are you two fighting?"

Shiallia - Home - ???, ???

The boy shook his head, mumbling something about not doing anything. Shia just stared.
"...Mum?" She was starting to get the hang of this strange size, and rushed over to her mother, crying.

Shiallia - Home - ???, Shia’s Mother
"..." She returned Shia's hug, puzzled. "It's... It’s alright, Shia." She glanced at the boy suspiciously. "What'd you do to make her so upset?"
He looked up at her indignantly. "I didn't do anything," he protested, "she just fell over and started yelling at me!" He looked like he was about to start crying, too. "She said she h-hated me..."
The woman sighed. She felt like someone should get in trouble, but she was having a hard time figuring out which kid had done something wrong. "Why did you tell Ren you hate him?"

Shiallia - Home - Ren, Shia’s Mother

"H-he ruined my life!"
Ren and Shia's mother both froze for a second, silently staring. After a moment, her mother crouched down, looking Shia in the eye. "... If I were dead, I wouldn't be standing here, now would I?" She smiled at her daughter. "You must've had a bad dream." She suddenly looked a bit more serious. "Now apologize to Ren, you really hurt his feelings."
Shia turned to look at her friend, wiping her eyes. "I..." She couldn't say it at first. He'd burned her home, killed her family, and now she was apologizing to him?! Then she looked at her mother, at the hurt on Ren's face, at the familiar room around her, and she could almost believe that it was all a dream. An eight-year nightmare. "I'm sorry I said I hated you... I know you would never- could never do any of that."
Ren smiled, forgiving her easily. "And I know you could never hate me, not really."
It was true. She couldn’t, she hadn’t. “It really wasn’t real?”
“Of course not,” her mother said, a bit forcefully.
Shia was surprised, but she wanted to believe that it was true so much that she did, even though her logical side told her something was up. She knew that dreams didn’t last eight years, she knew that her mother had never called her Shia, she knew that none of this made sense, yet she believed that it was true because she wanted it to be. “What about… What about Ferondir?”
“He doesn’t exist,” her mother replied, “it was just a dream.”
Shia knew her mother couldn’t possibly know that he was a he. She knew that her real mother would’ve asked who he was, instead of trying to convince her he was fake. Yet she still clung to her belief that this was real.
A strangely familiar magical feeling tingled in one of her fingers, and she looked down, surprised. ... My ring? From the guild...

Shiallia - Dream - Nobody

“You can’t both exist, and… I don’t think you’re the one that does.”
Ren and her mother both got a dark expression.
“I can’t leave my friends to handle this on their own, even though I’m scared and pretty useless in a fight," she continued sadly, looking away from them. "And I definitely can’t stay here in a world of memories. My life here died with you in the fire, and as much as I miss that life... I have a new one I need to get back to.” She closed her eyes. “I’m sorry…”

Shiallia - Wherever the portal comes out, some tower I think - Whoever's out, Ferondir I think?

Shia blinked, disoriented. "Well... That was... Traumatizing." She stood up, looking shaken. "Could've been worse... I guess."

Journeyman Ferondir of Mira ~ A Tower - Shia, and others

"Ugh..." Ferondir said. "You too, huh?" He looked down at his hands.
Well... his hand.
He had almost given up the sword. He'd almost ruined all. "It makes sense."
He shook his head, and looked up. "That's that."

Day 8 (Noon)/Guzore/156/Where: Portal/With: Himself

Guzore tumbled helplessly down the rocky slope of a seemingly endless mountain. Disoriented and confused, he wasn't sure how he got here. He tried to stop himself from rolling down any further, but the slope just seemed to get steeper and steeper as he rolled down faster. He began to yell for help, but quickly hit the ground. Stunned but not incredibly injured, he got himself back up off of the ground and brushed the dust off of his legs.
Whoa... that was quite the ride...
He looked around and saw all of his friends in front of him, all looking at the stone cliffs surrounding them. They had their backs turned to him, so he couldn't see their faces. He tried to run up to them, but quickly realized there was a deep chasm between the ground he was standing on and the ground they were standing on that seemed to go on forever.
Wha-? Uh... oh, don't worry, guys! I'll find a way to get us out of here, hohohoho!
There was a tremendous shake in the ground that caused Guzore to fall onto his back. Loud cracks could be heard from up above. Guzore looked at the top of the rocky cliffs and saw that it was a volcano erupting. Hot lava was making it's way down towards Guzore's friends on the other side of the cliff, but they didn't seem to be budging.
Oh no, guys!! Look out for that lava!
They didn't move.
HEY!! ZEPH, FERONDIR, DELLA, ALL OF YOU!!!
They remained motionless, staring at the lava coming towards them. It drew closer and closer with each attempt Guzore made to get their attention. The chasm in between them looked larger now, and he couldn't see his friends quite as well. It was at this point that Guzore began to panic, fearing for his friends' lives. He paced around in circles rapidly with his head in his hands until he felt a hand on his shoulder. It was... Amethyst? Guzore jumped back in surprise.
WHOA!! I thought you... on the ship... you're alive? How??
Guzore reached his arm forward towards Amethyst, but it phased through her. He stared at her in awe.
...are you a ghost?
You could've saved me.
Guzore froze. He could've saved her from Gill? The thought began to make sense to him as he thought more about it. He visualized the scenario as he remembered it, with Gill preparing to strike Amethyst in the back right in front of Guzore as he watched helplessly.
...I let you die... I couldn't protect you...
Amethyst closed her eyes and nodded.
It's not too late to save your friends though.
Guzore turned around and remembered the lava flowing towards his friends.
How can I do it?
Amethyst's form began to flicker and mildly distort for a moment.
Before I tell you, I'll need you to make a deal with me.
Guzore looked at Amethyst intently, eager to save his friends as quick as possible.
I need you to jump into the chasm.
Guzore's eagerness changed to suspicion as he questioned Amethyst's logic.
Wait... but how will that-
It's the only way.
Guzore looked at his friends as the lava drew even closer and questioned whether or not to trust this Amethyst ghost. If he fell and died, he wouldn't be able to...
Complete the prophecy...
Guzore looked at Amethyst and began to remember where he had been before. The Badlands. The tower. The portal. Amethyst's figure began to distort again.
You're not... this isn't real.
JUMP INTO THE CHASM.
Amethyst's figure began violently contorting in shape and changing color. Guzore turned to look at his friends behind him and realized that they had never even made eye contact with him. They couldn't be real either. Guzore looked at Amethyst, filled with determination.
No.
Amethyst's figure continued to distort in shape and color until it took the form of a shadow being with arms reaching out to Guzore. His friends on the other side of the chasm turned around, revealing their faces to be those of shadow beings as well.
YOU CAN'T GO BACK.
Guzore knew that this was a test by now. The shadow beings and spacial distortion were pretty dead giveaways. He suddenly realized that if this was a dream, he could control it. He looked up from the mountain he rolled down from and saw a glowing portal at the top.
Sorry brothers, but I've gotta roll out here.
Using all of his mental energy, Guzore formed a giant trampoline in front of him and leaped onto it.
OH NO, HE'S LUCID. GET HIM!!
The shadow beings began chasing after Guzore as he flew through the air with an unrealistic lack of friction towards the portal. He turned around, still flying upwards, and snapped his fingers. Barrels began appearing out of clouds of pink dust and launching themselves at the shadow demons, exploding into popcorn on impact. Most of the shadow beings were taken out by these, but the one that looked like Amethyst was still flying towards Guzore. He quickly pulled out a whistle from his bag and blew on it, summoning a giant Ravoo from the depths of the chasm. The giant Ravoo opened it's mouth and shot out it's giant tongue to grab the remaining shadow demon. Trapping it in the air, he blasted it with his laser vision, creating an immense explosion of fireworks. Guzore smiled with satisfaction, knowing that he had saved the day, as he completed his flight upwards and passed through the portal.

Day 8 (Noon)/Veneficus/156/Where: Portal/With: Himself

Veneficus looked around him, but all he saw was darkness and a white mist surrounding him. His helmet and weapons were gone as well. He felt confused and disoriented, like his usual will and conscious decision making abilities were lacking. He couldn't remember how he got here and it felt like it had been days since he had done anything.
What is this...?
He heard footsteps behind him.
...Oh.
He turned around.
...and who might you be, mysterious voice in the dark...?
The footsteps drew closer and the being's figure was revealed.
Image
Veneficus felt an odd sense of deja vu upon seeing this being, but couldn't remember where from.
What's going on here? Why am I here? I want answers!
The being sighed.
Oh, what I wouldn't give for an answer myself... Why am I here? What purpose do I serve? How lucky you must be to know...
Veneficus felt a tight sensation in his chest and dropped to his knees. He felt hollow on the inside, and suddenly couldn't muster the will to get up.
What magic is this!?
The being continued to pace around as it spoke slowly and softly.
There's nothing magical about it, Venn. This is you. This is the darkness that you hide, that empty feeling inside that you push to the side and deny, all of your fears, all of your anger, all your doubts... and me.
The being stopped, standing right in front of Veneficus as his pain increased. He looked up at the creature with determination in his eyes.
Listen, pal... I don't know what your deal is... I can't remember how I got here or who I used to be... but I know that none of those things control me anymore.
Veneficus managed got one leg off the ground.
If there's one thing I do know, it's that you have no power over me here. This is my domain!
Veneficus stood up on both legs and walked towards the stone being. Filled with motivation and willpower, he pulled back his arm and punched the beast back with all his might. A red wave of energy radiated from the creature and launched Veneficus backwards. The creature opened one eye at Veneficus, revealing a menacing red glare. Suddenly, a bright light shone above them, and Veneficus was enveloped in the radiant beams. The creature smiled for a brief moment.
What a privilege it must be to forget... To forget what happened one hundred and thirty six years ago...
The stone being fell into the darkness, disappearing from sight.

...
Veneficus felt a rush of terror surge through him as he jolted awake in the tower. His perception and memory were back to normal, but he seemed to have forgotten the dream.
That was strange...

Cassie watched as Zephyrus flung himself back into the weird swirling vortex of doom (as she liked to call it). As he flew backwards, she noticed his eyes locked with her own. There was a glint in his blue eyes as he was sucked in by the void. Cassie stood there motionless. She then went to her thoughts which were only crowded with one thing. Him. She couldn't seem to take her mind of the scene at the volcano, the way his eyes looked as he stared at her. The way he was just looking at her. She didn't know why, but there was an odd feeling in her stomach. Almost like butterflies. People always like to tell you about the butterflies that just magically appear in your stomach. She never thought she would have any though. Never in a million years would she think of possibly falling for someone. Her thoughts had always been on her adventures. Never have they ever been on a bo- "Whoops!" Suddenly her thoughts were stopped as she tripped over some sort of rock and she fell backwards into the glowing void. As she flung backwards, she looked around her. She was just floating in nothingness. She then went back to her thoughts which were still clouded by one image. His eyes. His blue glowing eyes. They almost looked like a clear night sky where the stars were visible everywhere. Then it all stopped. Her thoughts, her ideas, and most importantly her floating. She landed face first flat on the ground. "Ow! Son of a biscotti!" She then stood up and looked around her. Nothing. There was absolutely nothing. Wasn't this supposed to be some sort of test? Wasn't she supposed to be facing something? Nope. As far as she could see there was nothing. "Welp.... Is that it?.... Nothing?.... Really?... Wow.... I guess I have nothing to overcome.... Huh... weird...... Now then how do I get out of here?" 'Oh you don't." A sudden dark low voice stopped her in her tracks. She turned around and saw a looming shadow figure standing right behind her, looming over the top of her. "Oh... Well who are you?" She asked. "I'm the nothingness you just described. I don't like being offended like that." The figure said with a slight tone of anger. However Cassie didn't mind. She just responded in her sassy way. "Welp, you didn't show up quick enough. You should do better at your job... Welp have a nice day." She turned around only to have her wrist grabbed by a cold hand that felt like death. Cassie shuddered at the feeling. She was then pulled directly face to face with the demon like creature, which she then noticed had dark red glowing eyes staring straight into hers. "Oh I'm sorry, but you're going nowhere." His grip tightened around her wrist. “Let go!" She yelled in retaliation. "Well since you said I'm not very good at my job, let me show you how bad it can get." The dark creature then spread his whole body out across the floor, covering the floor and walls. Cassie was now enclosed in a dark room, feeling nothing but despair. '"What is this?" She said with some fear in her voice. "Why this is what I was going to show you before you so rudely interrupted." Then Cassie heard out of the nothingness I young child-like voice call out her name. "Cassie?" She turned into the direction where it came from, but nothing. Cassie then suddenly noticed that she was surrounded by an immense amount of trees. She was now in a forest. She was starting to feel more and more uncomfortable, as the child's screams got louder and louder. "Cassie? Cassie? CASSIE!?!?!" Cassie looked around frantically looking for the lost child who the screams belonged to. "Who are you? WHERE are you?" Cassie yelled back at it. "Why this is your past Cassie." The dark voice suddenly said out of the nothingness. "What?" "Yes it is, and you can find out more if you do one thing for me." Was this thing making a deal? Why would this thing want to make a deal with me in any way? However Cassie's past was something she wanted to know more about. She didn't remember anything of her childhood. Absolutely nothing. Just like how the room started out. "Tick tock Cassie. That child isn't going to last long." She grew anger and displeased. She finally yelled out her answer "Fine! What do you want me to do?" "Look at your feet." Cassie saw a sharp knife laying right in front of her. "I need you to stab yourself." "Huh? Why? How is that going to help me in anyway?" "Oh you didn't let me finish. I need you to stab yourself in the heart. The only way you can bring out your true memories is by going to the source. Where your heart lies." Cassie stared at the knife and behind her where she noticed a light blaze building in the back. Was that fire? "Hurry up Cassie, your memories are burning right in front of you." Cassie contemplated the question. "So this will help me see my memories?" "Yes, it will." "And will I die from this or will it all just go away afterwards?" "Oh it will all just go away. No worries no cares... Nothing." Cassie pointed the knife directly at her chest where her heart lied. She was beginning to go through the motions when all of sudden the little kids screams which she heard now turned into much more of a mature voice. A voice which she recognized. "Cassie!" "...Zephyrus?" "Cassie!" He screamed her name louder and louder. "Hurry up! What are you waiting for?" Cassie turned around and stared at the shining knife pointed directly at her. "...It doesn't matter." Huh?" "My past doesn't matter." "What?" "What matters now is my friends. The people closest to me. Why would I need to worry about some stupid childhood that doesn't matter?!?!" Cassie pointed the knife away from her and stared into the nothingness before. "I may not remember who I was, but I sure as heck know who I am now!" She yelled as she struck the ground with the knife. A loud shriek filled the air as the whole entire room fell apart and reverted back into a swirling void that sucked Cassie back through to the other end where everyone else was. She landed hard on the crumbly ground and looked up. "Ow.... Oh hey!" She was finally free. "Huh.. So I guess that was the test. Welp I'm glad that's over huh. Ze-" Cassie looked around for Zephyrus, but didn't see him. "W-where's Zeph?" Normally he would've been the first one out. However there was no sight of the silver haired blue eyed boy anywhere.

"You made the right choice too?" Ferondir looked at her. "Zeph hasn't come through. I'm not sure he will."
He may very well choose himself over us.

Re: [Invite-Only] Legend of Zelda: Explorers of Hyrule RPG

The group greeted each other warmly as they reemerged from the portal one by one.
At last, the totality of the group had finally materialized.
Zeph hasn't come through. I'm not sure he will. Ferondir said, disappointed.
After a few seconds, an echoed laugh reverberated around the room, causing chills around the room.
Hm Hm Hm...
Quickly, the torches in the room extinguished - plunging it into a darkness, only lit, dimly, by light streaming in from small parts in the walls.
Shadows from around the room flew from the walls and spiraled inwards, turning into a viscous black tar, vaguely resembling that of a humanoid form.
Shortly, the goo melted away, revealing a dark haired Zeph - laying sprawled across a metallic throne that had conveniently been placed against the farthest wall.
Dark Zeph regarded the inutile group- the way one might look at a figure in a zoo.
Distant, and cold.
Dark Zeph smirked, as if he had just noticed them.
Oh, and look who's still here? Shouldn't you have all.. scattered... by now? Dark Zeph said, distastefully.
I'm feeling generous, so if you leave now, I might let you all go together. He said, speaking like you would to someone much younger. As he did, a door behind the group swung open invitingly.
