I have never heard of this. Does someone mind explaining it a little bit better?

I'm not gonna lie; its a little hard to explain.
basically, the simplest way of putting it is that when you're still developing in embryo, your senses develop a bit criss-crossed.
Under that umbrella explanation, we find that most people's "wires", if you will, are hooked up normal, and some people have "wires" that connect to the wrong thing.
(let me know if you're confused) c;
So lets say on person has a sound "wire" that is a straight shot to the sound "hub" in your brain.
Someone with synesthesia might have a sound "wire" that instead connects to a sight "hub", resulting in sound-to-sight synesthesia. This person may see red flashes in front of them while listening to jazz music, or see little blue streaks when they here corn popping in the microwave.
This is just one example of how the "wires" and "hubs" might get connected wrong-
their are as many types of synesthesia as there are ways to pair up our five senses, plus some.
A common type of synesthesia is also personification, where numbers and letters and names and words and objects might have set personality traits, textures, colors, etc.
For example, 4 has always been very purple to me, and quite shy. The continent of Europe is a medium-light blue color.
I hope this helps c: feel free to ask more questions!

Thank you so much this helps alot. I read a book about someone like this. Whenever they heard music they would think of colors. I didn't know that it had anything to do with how your brain developed. Honestly I think it's pretty cool. How does it interfere with your daily life? I mean, does it make it harder, or more stressful? Thank you for taking the time to explain, I don't want to be nosy I'm just curious. I like learning about how people's brains work.

Yes!! That's how I found out that not everyone sees colors like that c:

they're all pretty basic, like temp cold=blue, hot=red etc

xi don't associate things with tastes, but tastes and emotions do have colors of their own. colors don't describe any specific thing, but things can be described as colors. for example, corn to me is a medium violetish blue, and the word green itself is actually more of a yellow-green. it's also sort of personalities and occasionally genders with me. the letter n is shy and k is open and humorous. v is sort of haughty (but don't tell her) and o is super paranoid and probably believes in aliens and the illuminati.
also, synesthesia is hazy purple.
