Somehow though LOTR is great and it has both. But its not about how evil Sauron is, but the struggle of giving up the Ring.

That makes perfect sense!
I thinkA major theme in my story is that there is no black and white 'good and evil'. I also refrain from calling my antagonists 'bad guys' because though they do bad things, they are not blatant evil and we learn why they do the things they do- and on the other side, my supposed 'good guys' or protagonists also make huge mistakes that would be seen as evil, so we must question the whole 'angel of light versus demon of darkness' cliche, for things are never as they first appear and a being cannot be purely anything. It's all a greyscale.
As for LOTR yes, I'm not sure how that was pulled off either.

On second thought, I get ideas from the weirdest things. I mean, I walk into the kitchen and a plate slightly shifts in the sink, and I get an idea for a story.
How I get motivated? I haven't found that out yet...I think my stories not telling me to die would help, though
