this song fits omen so perfectly,,, they're a deity from another realm, so when they find themself trapped in this world, they feel like a complete outsider. it's also totally new to them to be.. well, mortal (at least somewhat). when they find themself falling for a charismatic, charming mortal, everything changes. their entire world turns upside down; they'd never even known such emotions could occupy them. upon meeting the chasm's pantheon, it's very clear that they don't fit in. they'd lived, isolated, in their realm for eternity, so naturally they don't get along very well with the overworld gods.

sage had been alone for most of her childhood, preferring to spend time with her plants over actual friends, so it was a shock when she ended up with satin. for the longest time, she never knew how to act around her or how to cope with the flood of emotions she'd never felt before. it took some time to get used to the affection and all, but, in the end, she's just grateful she found her <3

satin had always been popular, growing up, and had her fair share of flings. she'd always kind of sectioned off her heart to make sure she never got hurt, though, and found it hard to fully open up to sage once the two found each other. with time, she was able to embrace the openness she'd always found so difficult and finally enjoy their relationship.

alder and sage have always been close friends despite his tendency to travel, bonding over their introversion and love of books. when sage and satin began spending more time together, he was all for it. he was happy she'd found someone to keep her busy and take care of her while he was away. when she told him she thought she fell in love with her, his whole world began to crumble. she was his everything, the closest friend he'd ever had. he was worried that he would lose her. but of course, he would never say that to her face. he smiled through the pain, happy for her, yet so very sad.

this song really captures the way that kore loves, especially her fated hades. the way their connection was formed and nurtured was vastly different than the other fated couple's; gossamer and fysi. while she had always known she was missing half of her soul and it was other there, calling, she hadn't found it until she was much older and within a cat she never would've thought could be it. hades and kore had known each other for some time before the red string of fate showed itself to them. while the stoic monotonous male grated on her nerves, she could not help but silently fawn over his wisdom, his coldness, his good looks. as their relationship grew, albeit a bit forced, so did kore's wariness of his sincerity. despite having that foundation of a crush on the male, his slow-building reciprocation left her on edge. even still she could not help but fall for him even further. even now, after centuries together, that seed of doubt still blossoms within her head every once in a while.

i chose this song to represent sundown because of the overarching themes of grandiosity and an unhealthy ego that twine together to make an individual like sundown. the song also talks about how in the music industry, there is a huge 'sell-out' mindset that many people have, creating songs that have no real meaning and just churning out music as cash-grabs. i apply this to sundown as he hates the way that strife corrino is going, with people starting to mirror the eastern district of heira cortana in creating soulless merchandise and commodities just to get money. prices are rising, people are getting greedy, and it annoys sundown endlessly.

halaya finch, "lady luck" -- amoeba by clairo
this song represents forgetting the important things in life in lieu of priorities that ultimately mean nothing. this fits halaya as it's meant to symbolize her struggles with taking care of herself, and putting things like gambling and money before her wellbeing. she is reckless, and often doesn't think to do anything good for herself or be careful until it's too late; she'll realize one day that what she's doing isn't conducive to the health of the roanokes as a whole either, but for now she continues pushing herself to her limits. i believe it also is a good display of feeling off and like you don't quite belong where you're trying to fit yourself into, and that also represents lady luck as her entire identity is based on something that never really has spoken to who she is as a person.

i feel like this song really captures my idea of how melancholic fogpool is about some actions hes taken in the past. he's a very outwardly cheerful cat, but definitely has a number of nagging regrets. he's also had a pretty consistent internal conflict about whether or not he should to leave his clan in favour of exploration and new experiences, but thus far has been too scared to take the plunge. maybe now's the time?

In the song, the singer is reflecting on the absence of a friend who is no longer with them, thinking of the good memories they shared together and how wrong it feels that they are gone. This song could easily be about finchpaw, sung to her by one of her friends- perhaps spiderstripe or duckpaw.

on a bit of a happier note! the song soap by the oh hellos is a great one for encapsulating the relationship between smokebite and robinblaze! it's no secret that these two are a few of my favorite cats- they're not super plot relevant, but the development of their relationship is very dear to me regardless. They start out as bitter rivals in their apprenticeship, and remain in conflict through their adulthood, until they both come to realize that- they are tired of fighting, and have come to care about each other. The anger and insecurity that previously defined their relationship has fizzled out as they matured, leaving this cat they've been at odds with for so long and want to heal their relationship with. It takes awhile, but- that is what they eventually do.

the song minnesota by harbor & home is a nice fit for my boy duckpaw's father, swann. Swann is not part of the clan, but travels around frequently and is on friendly terms with the group, having come to stay with them several times in the past. He leaves his son duck in their care because, though he loves his son, he doubts his ability to parent his son in the way he needs. Despite trying to convince himself that it is for the best, he finds himself missing his son more than anything- traveling doesn't hold the same joy that it used to, and he finds himself looking for something he already knows the answer to.

the song fear of water by noah kahan is a nice fit for another one of my sad longing cats! dawngaze, in the wake of his mentor elmcreek's death, knollclan's senior healer is left very broken and embittered, and takes a long time to reach a place of peace and acceptance in his grief. One cat who helps him with this is sagespot, his fellow healer- and future mate, whom he grows very close to as they both grieve and learn to work together without elmcreek's help. sagespot is able to move on and come to terms with her grief faster than dawn is, and he does not want to be dragging her down while he is still mourning, and fears trying to fully move on because he does not want to forget his mentor, who was like family to him. Though the healing process is a long one, he is making it one step at a time.

the song curses by the crane wives is an excellent fit for my girl sandviper! At the point I've developed to in knollclan canon, she is still a baby... but when she grows up she's going to go full antagonist mode and become a Bit of a problem for the clan. Seizing control of the clan with her best friend and lackey, basilscratch, in a coup, sandviper is at first assured that what the two of them are doing is the right thing for the clan, and what the deceased leader rookstar would have wanted- but as she tries to lead a clan that views her as a murderer and a usurper, she becomes increasingly paranoid and doubtful of her decisions, in the end breaking down to be exactly how rookstar, the cat she so looked up to, behaved in his last disastrous moons of leadership.

another song for a villainous kitty! my terrible horrible villain man foxtrot really fits the song everything machine by half•alive! the song originally talks about societal addiction to technology (and specifically cell phones) as a crutch, but I find the structure of the song–which has the dangerous thing singing to the user–also fits my smooth, manipulative cult leader quite well. foxtrot does everything he can to keep the members of the yew following dependent on his word and leadership, so this song is just about perfect for him.

moving on from foxtrot, we've got a song for his son! the pretender by the foo fighters is a song that I think fits quite well for my guy dandelion! He begins life buying into his father's ideology and craving his approval, like the slower interlude of the song talks about keeping people in the dark. as he ages, dandelion grows increasingly disillusioned by the yew following and begins seeing through his father's manipulations and becomes openly rebellious, eventually playing a key role in efforts to displace his father from leadership and free the yew following from his grip.

Calamityrain had a relatively lovely kithood, cared for by her adoptive father and playing rough and rowdy with her four siblings. Despite all that, she vanished from her first home nearly as soon as she could survive on her own (perhaps even a little before that) and appeared in the Basin Desert, terrorizing the folk who called it home and calling herself an outlaw, with all that entailed. Lighthearted about her own mortality, frolicking through other people's lives careless and giddy about any disturbances she may cause, this song is perfect for her.

A haunting, drone-like song with the rising and falls of a nuclear warning siren, accompanied by the steady and clear plucking of a banjo. This song had no words, but speaks of a quiet life at the edge of an approaching apocalypse, Quicksnare was there when they accidentally manifested the very personification of the end times, and yet will do nothing but farm, quietly, at the edge of the continent, as the apocalypse ebbs and flows ever closer to her quiet life.

A tiny, inconsequential mote of dust inside a much larger organism, despite the Imbroglio's affection for them, Gravedigger is very and sometimes uncomfortably aware of how delicate the arrangement is between them and the city. Lost in the endless maze of their lover's winding shape, Gravedigger is hopelessly entangled in their city's massive labyrinthian form.

An ancient Basin Desert outlaw, Gossamerfur's prickly exterior protects a soft interior, one overlaid in regret, of sides she should not have taken, of things she should not have done. At the end of it all, beyond everything, she just wants to take the long sleep, but her work here is not near done, not yet.
