Cenric stared at the cat, an almost blank expression on his face as he drawled out an "uuhhhhh."

"I... I think I'd be dead. There wouldn't be anything for me to do if my paws are already in the lava." He took another few moments to think before speaking again, really taking time to give a partially good answer. "Thooough... I'd try and get back to my friends and family to find a safe place with them." Cenric padded over to a nearby rock covered in moss and scramble atop it before hopping to and from other rocks. He stopped to get ready for his next jump. "I'd parkour from rocks to trees! Like a supercat ready to save the day!" The next jump he tried to do failed miserably, causing the tom to slip and bump his chin on the hard surface of a boulder and land with a loud "OOF." The maned wolf shook his head, covering his face with a paw and sighing.

"Ow... I'm alright!"

The stranger leads you deeper into the forest, silent the entire way as you follow behind him aimlessly. You start to wonder if he knows where he is going when he suddenly turns around, face set into a scowl. “Before I lead you to Firebreather’s sacred bunker, I need to know that you’re worthy. To see if you’re with the CIA or not.”

He glances around before leveling you with a gaze, brow furrowing. “If lava flooded the world right now, flowing against your paws, what would you do?”


she furrowed her brows back at the stranger. "for us, lava is far, and an unlikely enemy."

"if my clan were to be flooded with the suns bitter enemy, for lava shall burn us and strike down our homes, we would likely be trapped. the endtimes itself."

she pondered for a moment, glancing around her. it felt quiet: too quiet, and what an odd question. lava of all things … could he not think of something more realistic, such as a flood, or forest fire, or other disaster? even famine?

"... i think i would take my lover away and head west, to the mountains. it is a selfish decision, but in such a catastrophic event, i am not sure i could save them all. lava would be unable to reach us there."

it would be cold, and cruel, the journey alone would likely felled them. but she would not be alone, and she would not have to perish with her kin. she would be there to grow anew somewhere else. maybe not the sungardens, and far away from highwaters, but a place to call home.

harvestsun isnt a selfish cat, but … she knows her word alone cannot save a clan.

"i trust that my felled cats would be looked after by Sol, perhaps given a new chance, and that we may meet again amongst the mountains."

fire could not hurt her, neither lava. this was a blessing, or curse - from Sol herself, since she was just a little glow. eyes barely open, little squeaks in the world.

She seemed a little dumbfounded by the question. If it was meant in humor or not, she wasn’t laughing. Shadefrost narrowed her eyes before she sighed, she wasn’t going to argue. If you want a straightforward answer then you can have one.

“I suppose I’d do my best to help the critters around me first. As much as I would want to run up a tree or scale a rock surface, it’s not only just going to be me suffering if there’s suddenly lava everywhere. I’d be calling out for anyone nearby and once I can assure I’ve done all I can, again I’ll scale up either a tree or a rocky cliff to get as high off the ground as I can. You don’t have to worry about me falling. My muscles carry the strength of an ox.”

Answer: Cerise twisted herself out from under the heavy cat and dusted her fur off as cher stood, disgruntled. Her fur prickled as she just stared at Bonesmasher, head tilted slightly forward with chers mouth set in an unassuming line.
"That's a ridiculous question," muttered Cerise as cher mottled brown and white pelt smoothed out, "because you should already know the answer. If lava were to flood the world at this very instant, we'd both be incredibly dead, no? Out here in a forest with nobody to call for help -- we'd be lucky if we even got found in the aftermath. Logically, though, it wouldn't happen in a way that lava would flow against my paws. Either everything would flood at the same time or there would be a point of origin that I could just... avoid. Like, if a cat tells you 'hey, the swamp has a massive geyser of lava in it, watch out,' you aren't going to the swamp. You're running to the mountains far away from the swamp because things can't flow uphill. And, like, yeah the mountains would be crowded, but you could push anyone off to make a spot for yourself if you were smart enough."
A flicker of a thought passed through Cerise's eyes, pressing itself against her temples in a look of confusion. "And... why would I be with the Cat Intelligence Agency? Is there something going on here that I'm already in too deep to get myself out of? Is this the point of origin? Oh, come on, Bonesmasher, tell me you're not going to lead me to the point of origin for your secret lava. Dude... that would be so incredibly rude to do after making me tell you my plan."

"...Lava flowing at my paws? Obviously I'm running. What else am I supposed to do? Put up a veil- IIIIIIII meaaaaan block it with my own two paws? No! I'm getting out of there. What would you do, man?"

At his silence, Chinook sighs - though she'd love to tower over him and criticize him for such an odd question, she keeps her head down, her antlers away, and her stature relatively normal. No need to distort a vessel right in front of a mortal who's never seen a root of the World Tree, after all. As much as she tries to forget about the strange inquiry while the stranger leads her, memories prick at her mind like bug bites.

Because lava did once flow to her paws. Flames and grit blowing across a barren wasteland, cleaved in two by a cataclysmic conflict. It was titled only by historians - the Magna Clade. She got to watch the world thrive and burn and then thrive again around her, got to witness the trees regrow after the destruction was over. And in that moment, when she was practically an apprentice, standing alone in the bare dusty land, each breath drawing in ash and smoke - when her pawpads were licked by heat and then soothed by the frigid death of the world - she did indeed run. She ran and she ran and she ran until there was no more to run from, and it was only then that she decided to stop and look around her.

She looks around now. The air in this forest is heavy and damp, but in a cold way - permeating her coat and resting against her skin. She'll take this over the suffocating heat any day.

“What’s lava?”

… The stranger has to explain what it is. The explanation is tosses two and fro between them like a hot potato. A hot potato dipped in lava, perhaps-

“So it’s like fire water?” Skippy finally concludes.

The stranger would offer further explanation, and begins to do so- but Skippy takes this and runs with it. She hardly stops to allow any words in edgewise.

“Uhhhhhhhhh how much of the world is flooded with lava? Cus then I guess I’d have to run, or climb, but if it’s the wHOLE world except my tiny spot then I really need a boat to float over it! Is there a boat that can withstand the lava? Fire proof boat that can float over lava? Do I have one? Do I have a fire proof lava boat in this scenerio?”

Skippy scrunches up her face, deep in thought. “HMMMM. I guess then, with my boat, I could float over the lava and I could see if there’s other survivors. And we can restart civilization on the lava proof boat!”

She calculates the implications of this action.

“Ohh but that depends how big the boat IS, and how many we get- we’d need a lotta space for all those critters. I hope there’s a lot of people, too, it’d be awful if everyone went like that. Boring, too. Are any animals lava proof? Will some be okay to just live in the lava- I mean I guess no one lives in fire…. that we know, cus fish live in water and birds can fly, so I mean it can’t be impossible, yeah? Maybe I can become lava proof too! THAT’S IT. I’ll wor to become lava proof. If I work ahead now I can-“

sagewhisker stared at the stranger, blinking in confusion for a few heartbeats before quietly asking, "what is lava?". the stranger lets out a sigh before delving into the explanation which sagewhisker only half understands, managing to atleast grasp that it's like water but it hurts.
"well if it started flowing everywhere, wouldn't we all die?" sagewhisker turned his head, unsure if the stranger's question was meant to be tricky or if it was fully serious. the stranger stayed silent, his scowl deepening. sagewhisker took a breath, shuffling his paws awkwardly as he thought.
"i suppose if it's going slow enough, i would check on my clanmates. specifically the vulnerable ones." sagewhisker explained, running a paw over his ear. "the young, the old, the sick. if they aren't being helped, i would step up and help get them and myself to higher ground. somewhere our paws would be safe from the evil water thing." sagewhisker used the same logic as when there is a flood. get somewhere high and wait.

Sheepwish stiffened, staring over at that question, her fur puffing up. This question made her head spin, what would she do? Lava, the domain of the Fire Kingdom. That would entail the war had begun, did this cat know something she didn’t? Had the war around MistClan finally begun the moment she had left?

She could only imagine the damage lava would do to this Kingdom, all of their architectural wonders, lost within minutes. Sheepwish shook her head. Everything would fall apart under her, she could imagine the pain everything would feel. Would it be because of her?

“I would try and warn as many cats as I could… they deserve to have a heads up before everything they know slips away..” her paws scuffled beneath her and she sighed. “I’d also try and make a run for MistClan as fast as I could, using the trees and clouds to get around as fast as I could. The lava means the war has likely begun, and I cannot miss out on the destruction that will occur, I’m supposed to play such a vital part in saving MistClan..” Her heart thundered in her chest the harder she thought about it. The lava would mean less for cats living near a volcano, but those mountains ahead were just mountains, nothing more. She could not let these innocent cats suffer simply because she lived around them.

“I will try to save them… to protect them from the approaching disaster..” Sheepwish dipped her head once more before sighing.

Umber paws scuff the earth distractedly, sending a plume of dust fluttering in its wake. "Quite an odd question, indeed..." they grumble distantly, taking a few more moments to consider a reasonable answer despite the absurdity of the premise. After a moment, they let out a deep sigh.

"Well, for starters, lava would hardly be a threat for me as I live in a swampland. I presume the lava will not be flowing infinitely, so it should eventually either fill the entirety of the swampland or end at a certain point within the marshes. Should it be the former... well, you would have been doomed to death either way so no use crying over spilt dewdrops."

"However," they continue, eyes wandering towards the sky, "should the lava eventually succumb to the waters of the marshlands, the lava will become the least of your concern for future survival. I mean, consider how a marshland nearly entirely buried in crystallized lava will devastate the local ecosystem? The delicate balance of prey and predator would be indescribably imbalanced- it could inevitably lead to the complete and utter collapse of the surrounding area. Not to mention the cataclysmic changes the lava would have made to the rest of the world!"

The tom begins pacing around, wide eyes still upright, facing the waning moonlight. "It would be an entirely different planet at that point. Shifts between species, the rise of new predators, and the decline of populations in totality.... Yes, it would be madness and chaos."

SG was feeling a bit of whiplash. Tupí had also been unprepared. First attacked, then welcomed, then initiated, then suspected. SG wasn't really sure what was going on and he was a little afraid of doing the wrong thing and accidently provoking this unpredictable cat. "CIA. What's a CIA?" he accidently wondered out loud. He anxiously stepped closer to Tupí in case his unintentional question set off a reaction. The other cat sounded very serious as he asked a question about lava. SG felt even more unsettled. He was pretty used to being blind these days but it was times like these he really wished he could see again. It would help to get a better read on the situation. If a clanmate had asked him that he would've assumed the cat was joking but this cat sounded dead serious. Lava flooding the world and touching his paws? SG had to think back. He didn't really know what lava was. He thinks he can remember an old tale told during last winter that involved lava. But in the story, it was extremely deadly, so hot it would kill you before you touched. This cant be the same lava the cat is asking about, right? Wouldn't he be dead. It was at this point SG realized how long he had been silent for. Tupí, more opinionated and bolder than SG, plus had a bit more knowledge on lava, was in the middle of responding with a simple answer "Die". SG gulped, nervous it was the wrong answer "Uhhh, you seem quite knowledge, I'd probably follow your lead" he finally said.
