Clan Using: TreeClan
Prompt: Territory 17
Prompt Response: The cats of TreeClan are good at making hiding spaces. The spaces that are made wouldn’t necessarily be called landmarks, but there are notable spots that different cats have created through the moons as ways to hide during downtime, places to get away from the hustle and bustle of clan life, and generally just areas that give the cats the ability to be at peace and alone, which many of the more introverted cats need in their lives. Most of the time, these hiding spots are made in the bramble thickets and in denser undergrowth nearer to the lake or nearer to stream edges, allowing the cats to watch the aquatic and semi aquatic life and watch birds take baths or just enjoy the quiet. The bramble thickets are often thinned a bit using a larger stick, and a small opening is made. It is typically only the thicker furred cats that like to make these bramble spots.

Other landmarks that the cats of TreeClan create, especially the cats that don’t like dealing with thorns or sharper foliage, are moss spots in the thickest branches of some maple trees. Usually not too far off the ground, a cat might choose a branch to claim as a resting nest in the sky. They often bring soft moss up to their chosen spot to make the scratchy bark more comfortable and even bring little treasures of bird feathers to denote whose branch spot is. It doesn’t take too much effort for the cats to create these branch spots, and they allow for a little more freedom than just relaxing at camp.

One final landmark is created by Goosewing. They are a cat known for creating random art around the forest, and one of those artworks is something he made that has now become a spot of legends, of sort. Goosewing won’t tell anyone how she did it, but he created a rock-cat. In reality, it took a lot of effort for Goosewing and he spent a long time ensuring the rocks were in the right spot, and most of it is from rocks and pebbles he could lift and stick together with clay and mud. The rock-cat is situated at the bend of one of the larger streams that feed into the lake, and has become a meeting spot for the mentors and apprentices during training sessions, and has generally become a spot that is easily identifiable for the rest of the clan as well

Prompt Response: The main training area has become a clearing to the northeast part of the territory. It is a sandier soil, so the grasses and vegetation doesn’t grow as thick and allows for more room to jump and practice crouching techniques or battle techniques, especially for the apprentices who are just learning and need to be able to see the stances better. After the apprentices graduate from the initial training area, they cats travel to various parts of the forest with thicker growth so that the apprentices are able to utilize their learned techniques in different terrains. Many training sessions take place at the northern area of the cliffs, where the abandoned dens from other animals are, so that the apprentices learn about scents and visual assessments of the territory. Typically the cats will learn swimming at the lake, though most kits who grew up in the clan were introduced to the shallow waters of the nearby streams before becoming apprentices and have a solid grasp on swimming and fishing from their parents. The final area utilized for training is the human town, and the mentors will often use this for teaching the cats wayfinding in distracting areas. The apprentices will be brought to a random spot in the town, told to close their eyes and spin before trying to find their mentor or make their way back out to the territory of TreeClan – mentors will usually hide their scent as well by rolling in nearby herbs or human gardens, or disguise with other methods, so the apprentice is left thoroughly on their own to assess their skills.

Prompt: Territory 19
Prompt Response: TreeClan is in the valley between many cliffs and mountain ranges. Most of the cliff edges and mountain ranges are considered dangerous, but they are far enough away from the clan, camp, and main territory that the clan doesn’t usually utilize the cliffs or mountains. The biggest danger in the territory are where the abandoned rock dens to the north are, as the closest cliff edge lies there. Most cats don’t attempt to climb up the cliffs and have a sense of self-preservation to not try, but there are the younger cats who like to take risks that often attempt the climb. Most are successful, but there have been a few sprains and close calls where the cat has gotten hurt.

The next unsafe area can be a bit controversially unsafe, but many consider the human town unsafe due to the unpredictability of how the humans live and what they chose to accompany them. Often, dogs are unfriendly towards the cats and it isn’t always known when any certain dog will be outside or unleashed by a human. Humans themselves, while usually kind towards the clan cats and not trying to bother the clan, might try to chase the cats to pet them, especially the young humans. Humans will also utilize fires during warmer months deeper in the forest, tenting in their human made dens they set up and tear down, which can cause fear of safety. Generally, however, Hemlockstar and the other cats who aren’t as afraid of the humans or the human place try to teach knowledge of the situation rather than being reactionary to seeing any humans or human made objects.

Prompt: Territory 20
Prompt Response: The tallest mountain, the one to the east edge of the territory is considered off limits. The bottom of the mountain is generally considered ok, but the mountainside and going up the mountainside is considered taboo to climb. The adults of the clan, and the cats considered to be the best climbers, have tried to find a safe path along the mountain, but they have tried and failed to find any that could be considered safe for cats to climb. The area is considered off limits mostly to bar any reckless cats from trying the impossible, as no one wants to have to bury a clanmate for something as preventable as not climbing the mountain. The second off limit area is the human road path past the human town, as it is a very wide path and the cars and trucks that frequent it are going at unimaginable speeds. The path fits easily six of the human cars going in different directions, and it is almost always busy. It is generally considered safe to cross at nighttime when the lights from these vessels are better able to be seen, but with the path being so wide, crossing is almost always a very unsafe expedition.

Prompt: Territory 21
Prompt Response: The cats of TreeClan are often seen hanging around the big lake in the middle of the territory. Anywhere by the lake – whether the cats try to relax in the thick tree branches, sit right beside the lake waters, choose a grassy spot somewhere in the middle – is considered a highly desirable spot and is where the cats spend most of their downtime during good weather, or even where they spend time during light rains to watch the ripples on the water. If the cats situate themselves right on the lake edge and lie down on their backs, they have a very clear view of the clouds or stars, the sky unblocked by the typical tree coverage surrounding most other parts of the territory. Choosing to rest amongst the tree branches gives a great vantage point of both the spots surrounding the lake, and the lake itself where a lot of other wildlife gathers. It can often be a good way to scout out if there are predators in the area. Anywhere by the lake also offers great birdwatching, a creature the clan regards highly, and this is where a lot of dropped feathers are gathered from. If a couple wants a quiet spot to be alone, most will choose to meet by the lake, especially on clear nights, so they can quietly stargaze together and enjoy the reflection of the moonlight on the calm waters. Some cats who enjoy swimming will also take a considerable amount of time swimming, as the water is always calm and the sun shining through the trees is able to warm the lake waters more than the streams, which are often crisp and cold comparative to the waters of the lake.

Castor: "There is a time and place for such conversations, Anova. In front of the entire Noxial court is certainly not one of those times."

Anova: "Then when is a good time, brother? You have avoided me for long enough and I seek answers!"

Lorens: "She is not the only one. You have kept us in the dark for long as well. I have half a mind to live in the swamps with Salis, as there seems to be no future here where you had promised there would be."

Castor: "You all lack patience and discipline. Has Father not taught you better than this? Or did he give up any and all paternal duties once I was chosen to be heir?"

Lorens: "How Father did or did not raise us is of no concern right now. You cannot change the subject just to dodge our questions. Now, tell us- when will you be making your move on the Noxial heir? Surely you won't continue this charade of courtship much longer?"

Anova: "It is certainly becoming quite the nuisance, if you ask me!"

Castor: "A nuisance, perhaps. However, a necessary step to the grand plan, as you both are very much aware. Without this 'charade of courtship', how could I possibly get close enough to the sovereign night family to learn their weaknesses? How would I gain the trust and loyalty of their Noxial court? The only way in which we can usher the era of perpetuality is by commandeering the Noxial throne. Which requires a scrupulous plan and a commitment to every step- including even the steps you may find slow and boring."

Salis: "I still don't understand why we need to take the 'slow and steady' route. If Kaos is so powerful, why can't xe just kill the Noxial royals ximself? Surely a kingdom without its monarchs would be easy to overpower."

Castor: "Speak ill of Brother Kaos one more time and I will ensure you no longer have a tongue to spew such nonsense from ever again!"

Lorens: "Salis didn't mean it in disrespect, brother. Forgive him- there is still much more for him to learn and understand."

Castor: "See to it that he does learn. And soon."

Anova: "I still don't understand what more you could need to learn from the Noxial court... we already have all the information we need, no? So why can't we make our move now?"

Castor: "Information was the easiest to collect. It is absolute trust I seek now. Once I have the minor court in my paws, we will prepare to strike. Continue to rally more puppets in Vygor territory in the meantime. And do try to stop wasting my time with these pointless questions. We proceed when I say so- no sooner and no later. Understood?"

Anova, Salis, Lorens: "Yes, brother."

NummyNym asks: "What is your favorite part about being a demigod?"
------------------- There are many aspects of being a demigod I enjoy, it would be difficult to pick a single one. I think right now my favorite part is travelling amongst the dreams of my beloved community. It can be bittersweet sometimes, you know- I wish I could walk amongst all of you in the daylight. But at least I can cherish the moments we share behind closed eyelids.

DappleDoubleDare asks: "Would you ever want to evolve into a full goddess? Like Terra?"
------------------- The simple answer is no- absolutely not. I would never wish to live like Terra, full goddess or not. However, becoming a 'full goddess' is something one cannot truly evolve into. Think of it like this- gods and goddesses are bound to individual, unique souls. There are only a limited number of these souls, and they cannot be created or destroyed. They are the life force of the universe, in a way. Some of these souls can choose to share aspects of their life to those they deem worthy- akin to how Terra turned me into a demigod. But, the only way to become a full goddess is to fully embody the entire god-given soul. Which would, for example, mean Terra dying and her ethereal soul then occupying another living being. I hope that made sense! I fear I rambled there for a moment.

LautiTia asks: "What is it like in the Noxium Mondae? Do you ever miss the real world?"
------------------- The Noxium Mondae can be anything I want at any time, so it depends on the day you're asking! Though, I would generally describe my home as an endless twilight sky. The only source of light comes from the twinkling stars that each house the dreams of my Noxial kin. It is rather spectacular, if I do say so myself. My goal was to create a peaceful midnight paradise, and I think I accomplished exactly that. As for missing the 'real world', it depends on what you consider to be 'real'. The dreams that occupy the Noxium Mondae are very much real to my kin. They're the deepest desires of my beloved, their worst fears and even greater passions. To me, they are the real world- the one found in the hearts of each and every denizen of the Shallows. So, no, I would not say I miss the real world, as I get the honor of witnessing it every day.

KaosInkarnate asks: "When are you going to stop hiding around in that little cave of your's, Created One?"
------------------- I don't quite understand this question and, unfortunately, this is all the time I have for today! Be sure to submit anything you'd like to ask me next time via the dreamscape. Buh bye!

"It is lovely to meet you, Imogen. Please, come in and take a seat," the tall golden feline offered an inviting smile to the nervous young molly, though it only seemed to make the poor youngling more anxious. The lilac she-cat's eyes darted from the tall feline towards the flattened bed of grass she gestured towards. Another cat sat beside the grass with a tilted chin, aer sharp pink gaze focused on Imogen who visibly swallowed down her fear. Hesitantly, she finally stepped forward, settling awkwardly before the intimidating stranger. "We truly are grateful that you reached out to us when you did! With the winter season quickly approaching, it is imperative that we fix up the royal garden."

The stoic stranger in front of Imogen gave a solemn nod, aer eyes still trained on the young feline. "O-of course," she stammered, heat rising beneath lilac fur. "I am honored you even wanted to interview me, your highnesses." She offered a reverent bow of her head, earning a disapproving tsk from the golden feline.

"Don't worry about such pleasantries right now, darling. If things go well with this interview, you will soon become a member of our little family and won't have to worry about honorifics any longer," the corner of the golden she-cats eyes wrinkled as her smile broadened. "Now then, tell us a bit about yourself. What sort of jobs have you worked before?"

An easy question... I got this, I was ready for this, Imogen thought to herself before replying, "Well, I have lived in the eastern corner of the Shallows all of my seasons. I am sure you both know this, but my village in particular is full of farmers. It's what everyone seems to do night in and night out. Naturally, I became a bit of a greenpaw myself and it's all that I have done since. Tending my mother's garden, harvesting my uncle's fields, and I started a little orchard of my own as well not too long ago."

"Oh how lovely! I simply adore the fresh produce of the eastern Shallows. Your village always grows the most delicious moonberries. We get them specially imported every fourth season for our darling Lyn's birth celebration. Isn't that right, Ari?" the golden feline flashed her dazzling smile in the direction of the impassive queen beside her.

Ae nodded slowly, clearing aer throat before asking, "You certainly have experience, but you also admitted that your village is full of equally, if not more, qualified individuals." The words lashed at the young feline's battering heart, embarrassment trickling up her paws as she glanced down. "So tell me. Why would you in particular, Imogen, be a good fit for this role."

"Ari, no need to be so sharp with the youngling," the golden she-cat scolded at her partner, Imogen could just barely hear the gentle slap of a tail following her indictment.

"It's alright, your highness. Queen Aurelia makes a fair point," the lilac feline swallowed down her nerves, lifting her head to meet aer intense gaze. For a color considered to be gentle and reassurance, Imogen found no solace amidst the pale pink. "While there are certainly many folks in my village who are far more experienced and talented than I, they are also entirely devoted to their own gardens and farmlands. You would be hard-pressed to find someone willing to part with their land, even at the order of aer royal highness. I, on the other paw, do not truly have a land to call my own. I had mentioned my own orchard that I started a season or two ago, but it exists on the land of my aunt's and uncles. It is not truly an orchard to call my own. If I were be hired to tend to the royal gardens, I will finally have a land I can truly devote myself to."

There was a glimmer of interest hidden in the stoic queen's gaze as ae peered at the youngling, the smallest tilt of her head echoed this curiosity. "You make a fair point, youngling," aer's approval soared through the feline, lessening the suffocating feeling of dread that clung to her.

"Thank you, your grace," she mewed, bowing her head once more.

"Fair indeed!" the golden queen chirped, tossing a look of "I told you so" in the direction of her mate. "Last question, my dear. If we were to hire you, how would you first tackle the restoration of our royal garden?"

Imogen sunk a fang into the soft flesh of her lip. The question was not exactly what she anticipated, but not impossible to answer. "I would start by clearing out the existing plants. From what I glanced, it seems many of the current plantbeds are covered in dead or dying life. No new life can be created amongst the dead, so they would need to be removed before anything further can be done. It is after these garden is cleared that I can begin introducing native species to the land and develop a small ecosystem. After all, a garden requires all manners of life, not just flowers and foliage."

Both queens nodded, one more enthusiastic than the other, before sharing a silent look. The lilac feline held her breath as the seconds passed, the pair continuing to stare at one another in a wordless conversation. Before, abruptly, the golden feline meows in delight, "Thank you, Imogen! We are so impressed with your answers, we would like to offer you the position right now!"

"We simply cannot delay any longer in restoring the garden, so a prompt response is of upmost importance," Queen Aurelia added coolly.

Before Imogen could open her mouth to respond, the golden she-cat began ushering her out. "Come, come! We can discuss details in the garden. We have no time to waste!"

Word Count: 460 words
Prompt Response:

It's difficult to find a future with a past so shrouded in darkness. It seems no matter how many steps you take forward, no matter how many paths reveal themselves to you- it is never enough. You are but what your past has defined you to be. You are never enough and never will be. At least, that is what I used to believe.

It was perhaps six seasons ago when I first began to challenge this belief. When I questioned what exactly it had meant to be "enough". At the time, I had begun volunteering at a local apothecary every other moon cycle. It was the only place I could volunteer at- everywhere else had turned me away. Citing my lack of experience or them needing someone with more 'potential'. It seemed no matter which direction I faced, the sun continued to cast its shadow ahead of me. Blocking anyone from seeing the real me. So, when I was accepted for this apothecary job, I was equally elated and confused. I mean, every other place had some reason to deny me, so surely this had to be some sort of mistake? I would soon learn that it was not, in fact, a mistake. But a very intentional decision.

The owner of this apothecary is a rather strange fellow. A recluse by all definitions of the word. In the 3 seasons I worked under him, I had only ever seen him communicate with one other feline outside of word-related business. That was also the only time I ever saw him smile, though I don't believe he ever intended for me to see. Anyways, it was him that taught me to stop valuing myself through the lens of others. That, in doing so, I was only hurting myself further. A self-inflicted anchor to the past I so longed to free myself from. It was with him that I learned to truly take control of myself and my life, which is what brings me to today.

Without my time serving under Salis, I wouldn't have become the feline I am today. I want to continue to learn, to develop, to grow. I want to experience the world in a broader sense, without worrying about what my past says, but what my future holds. I feel that this experience I desire can be found at your institute. That, as a follower of the Harbinger of Perpetuality, I would have the opportunity to continue to evolve. To be elevated to the ranks of enlightenment with the teachings of Kaos. If you would consider accepting me in your ranks, it would be greatly appreciated and I can assure it would not be regretted.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

With the sincerest respect,
Sunder

Prompt Response:

Silas' Selenic Reprieve Frostbites

Prep Time: half a moonrise
Simmer Time: two moonrises
Cool Time: quarter of a winter

Ingredients

-----------✧ 12 petals of an evening primrose
-----------✧ 2 stalks of lavender
-----------✧ 4 dollops of aloe vera
-----------✧ 4 leaflets of twilight dew
-----------✧ 2 claw pinches of dampened earth
-----------✧ 5 moon-soaked lamb's ear leaves
-----------✧ 1 stick of cinnamon
-----------✧ 1/2 of a crow feather
-----------✧ 10 leaflets of silver water

Directions

-----------1. Prepare a cauldron with the silver water and set it low on the fire to reach a simmer. While the cauldron simmers, begin grinding down the primose, lamb's ear leaves, and lavender into a pasty dust. It should be thick enough to smear, but mixed well enough that it cannot be separated. (It is imperative that everything is mixed THOROUGHLY with no separate between ingredients.)
-----------2. Slowly begin mixing the dampened earth with the plant paste. The paste should start to turn a brownish-green. If it is not, you have not thoroughly mixed the paste and will need to begin anew with fresh ingredients.
-----------3. Once the silver water has begun to bubble, place the crow feather in. The feather should float atop the silvery water, but not be completely submersed. Ensure the crow feather stays floating as the water continues to simmer.
-----------4. Mix the aloe vera into the dirt and plant smear. The mixture will begin to get sticky after mixing for a few blinks, this is normal! The sticky mixture will need to be smeared onto one of the leaflets to rest. Place the smeared leaflet in a cool spot while returning to the simmering water.
-----------5. Using the cinnamon stick, begin stirring the simmer water until the crow feather begins to submerse. Once the feather is completely covered, raise the cauldron a few paw lengths above the flame.
-----------6. Now gently place the leaflet onto the silvery water surface. The water should have a bronze hue now, but still be shimmering. If this is not the case, you must start over from the beginning.
-----------7. Leave the mixture to simmer for two moonrises, periodically checking to ensure that the leaflet continues to float.
-----------8. After two moonrises, the mixture should be congealed atop the leaflet. There may be some dampness atop the mixture- this is normal! If the mixture drips silver water once removed, it means the leaflet got too wet at some point and the elixir will not be as effective. Once fully removed, place the congealed mixture in a fresh leaflet (ideally a waxy leaflet so as to ensure nothing gets stuck to the leaf surface).
-----------9. Leave the leaflet and mixture outside beneath fresh snow for a quarter of a winter. The mixture will have become hardened at this point with a shimmery silver-copper surface. Your delicious elixir bites are now ready to devour!

Nyla sat in silence as her ears swiveled. She had reluctantly agreed to sit outside with Zuria, giving into the relentless pleading that young cat seemed to never run out of. Zuria was still zipping around, Nyla could hear her paws crunching on the grass as she moved. Nyla was half certain that Zuria hadn’t stopped running the whole time they had been out together despite all the time passing. “Don’t you ever get tired?” Nyla huffed out finally, pausing her silence just for a moment.

“It’s a game, silly!” Zuria purred back with enough enthusiasm Nyla could practically feel the joy radiating off of her. The young herbalist in training was almost certain it was unhealthy for any cat to be radiating this much joy.

“A game, you say? Explain.” Nyla asked, giving into the curiosity.

“Well- the challenge is to run as fast as I can to beat this bug…. And see how long I can go before you say something!” Zuria hummed out and Nyla felt a bump against her side, provoking a huff. She seemed awfully proud of herself for coming up with this so called game, Nyla had to give it to her.

“I ruined your game then, didn’t I?”

“No! We’re playing together! Can’t you tell!”

Nyla wasn’t sure when she had agreed to this whole idea of playing ‘together’, it seemed more like Zuria was dragging her around. Yet, Nyla shook her head and remained there, letting Zuria continue her fun. It was innocent fun and Nyla could not find it within herself to shut down what was making Zuria glow, despite how bad it made her ears ring. At least she didn’t have to watch Zuria make an utter fool of herself and could sit blind to it all, feigning ignorance when others asked what was going on.

The summer had been boiling hot within the Kingdom and despite all of the cats best efforts to slow down the heat nothing had seemed to work. It had been relentless for a week straight, causing the nursery attendants to keep most of the younglings inside for the majority of the time to prevent heat related illnesses. Yet, no one could deny that the clouds moving in looked refreshing to everything else going on. The clouds were dark but the breeze blowing them in was cool enough to let the younglings out for a breath of fresh air.

It opened up fast, one second the breeze was cooling everything down and the next the clouds were dumping rain on every cat within the Kingdom. Cats rushed inside and hurried to get all of their belongings out of the rain while a handful of the younglings stared up at the rain wistfully. Fiadh and Medora had begun rolling around in the puddles forming, their forms rolling together down the grass before anyone else could catch them.

“You’ll never beat me!” Fiadh declared, standing over Medora with a chest puffed out like a bird.

“But I will! Look at this!” Medora quickly rolled Fiadh around and many of the nursery attendants watched as this show continued for minutes on end until both Younglings were on the ground giggling, covered in enough mud to disguise them from a dragon. “Children!”

“Yes?” They both called back in sync, ears perked and tails high, barely aware of the impending scolding coming their way for getting this dirty. Yet, in a fit of kindness the playful younglings were merely cleaned off and coaxed inside.

“Be more careful when playing in the rain, little ones… I would hate it for either of you to get hurt due to how slippery it gets..”

“Yes ma’am…” both kits finally mumbled in resignation, heads bowed quietly.

Althea creeped slowly out of the bed, moving to the door of the witches cabin and looking outside. A glance showed her that Atlas and everyone was still fast asleep. Something in her heart tugged before she silently moved over to Atlas and woke them up.

“Mmph…” was the only response she got in return for a moment. “Althea…. What’s up..?” Atlas finally murmured quietly to prevent anyone else from waking.

“I wanted you to come outside with me… some fresh air..” Althea asked softly, her paws shuffling on the ground, head bowed. Atlas didn’t say anything else before crawling out of the bed and leading the way outside. Both of them carefully moved over the sleeping forms of the kids and were extra careful to not wake them.

“Look at the stars,” Althea noted with fondness, slowly she laid down to look up at them better.

“The stars are almost as pretty as you, my dear,” Atlas purred warmly before laying down beside her.

They laid there for quite some time, naming constellations, watching the stars. Everything seemed quiet and still, a break from the rush that had seemed to take over everything in their lives.

“That one is Andromeda's constellation.”

“That one is supposed to symbolize Hope.”

“That one is like a mouse!”

Every so often their conversations would descend into fits of laughter and Althea would never trade this for a thing. The connection and warmth felt welcome. “I love you, Atlas.. and your willingness to go along with my schemes.”

“I love you too.”

“Sorry about waking you up in the middle of the night for something like this..” Althea finally mumbled, guilt had been gnawing on her despite the fact that Atlas seemed fine with it.

“I wouldn’t have given this up for anything, I’m glad you woke me so we can enjoy the stars together.”

The dew hadn’t even settled yet, birds still asleep in their nests and bugs nestled under their rocks. Sunshine had just barely begun to crest the horizon when Aponi woke up, moving around silently to ensure everything was cared for. All of the younglings were fast asleep and oblivious to the movement. She was one of the handful of nursery attendants who actually had a room in the nursery so she could keep a better eye on the younglings. Nobody else had stirred when she stepped out to check the conditions. It was set to be a warm day, pleasant for playing outside and as long as there was no rain there was no risk of the younglings getting covered in mud.

Once she moved back inside Aponi paid her herb stores a visit. She only had the bare minimum, just enough to tend to the younglings without full blown herbalist knowledge. They were getting rather low after an illness moved through the nursery a few weeks ago and she’d been too busy to restock. Silently she made a note to herself to bring one of the younglings with her to help restock the storage.

As she was doing her totals for everything, as she does each morning, one of the older younglings had begun to stir. They were always quiet until dragged into play, sticking by themself unless welcomed in. “Apo..?” The small voice mumbled faintly. “Is it morning?” Their sleepy voice made Aponi smile. Every morning there was at least one.

“Go back to sleep, little one, you can still rest more.” The youngling didn’t seem to require much coaxing before curling up once more and succumbing to sleep again. Aponi smiled softly to herself and continued her morning prep. The store calculations were done, morning checks were done, her last part was getting herself ready.

Getting up so early in the morning was always her thing, giving her a way to get her mind back into tending before everyone was crowding her and shouting her name.

Everything must be in perfect order. Not a spec out of place. It must be perfect. It must not look strange. Everyone must be silent and perfect. For this was the precision that was required for working as a personal guard to one of the royals. Sure, it may be overkill to care this much because the cleaners were very careful about ensuring the castle was in perfect condition at all times but Amestris couldn’t help but be more careful. It would require a fool to not notice the one she was protecting was on guard more than usual. She had been asked to make sure there was nothing strange going on and so Amestris obeyed.

Sure night was falling and this was when most cats normally gave themselves time to relax but Amestris knew she could not afford to let her guard down. All of this to make sure the one she was protecting felt safe in her own home. First was to check the windows- nothing had changed, it was all the same. After that was to check the meticulously placed box with marks to ensure they could tell if it had been moved. Nothing. Once all of her checks were concluded Amestris found her spot beside the door to stand guard. Previous nights there had been rotating night guards standing watch, but tonight Amestris had been requested to stay there until her royal at least fell asleep. Of course Amestris agreed. Amestris knew she would be exhausted the next morning but she also knew that feeling was worth it if her one in need of protection felt safe.

It was all worth it for Amestris, the feeling of protecting someone, being able to shelter them at all times. Maybe she had to do sleepless nights, but it was worth it if she knew that the ones in need of protecting felt safe for once.

Rainbows bloomed over the land, sun warming the grass and welcoming all those who wanted to visit her land. Iris loved her land of desires, it was her personal haven despite the loneliness that always seemed to linger. It was easier to distract herself with duties around her land than deal with how lonely she felt. Iris had been blessed with this land since she was just a baby. She was a forbidden child of Altaluna and Andromeda, they had given her this land of desires to ensure no other cat thought too hard about where she belonged or the consequences. This land shaped to every form she needed deep within her heart, lending itself to every whim.

Today was trimming day, her claws pulled to shape the bushes decorating the land. Every so often she shaped them into forms that made her feel less alone. The work was one of her favourites, something she had become particularly skilled at after years of being here alone where time never acted the same as down with the mortals. Her claws worked swiftly to shape the bushes, one in the form of a butterfly with another in the shape of a bear. Nobody could think too hard about how these shapes were possible as barely anyone besides her was able to visit this blessed land. The rules here weren’t the same as the rules the land had down below anyways.

Trimming and shaping the bushes was technically a chore for her to tend to yet Iris could never dislike this task, it gave her something to do when days got long. Her extra tall form lent itself to reaching higher places as well, making every chore so much easier. As she moved around, she fixed all the flowers to ensure they were standing their tallest just like her. Each chore held a special place in her heart.

It was a quiet part of the castle, one without much traffic. Evren was cleaning carefully, head down as she hummed to herself. It was a soft tune that her mother had taught her when she was much younger, something to help her focus when all she wanted to do was jump to a different task. The other cleaners had left her alone this once, trusting her to clean this area without getting distracted and Evren had to prove she could be trusted. She had lost track of how long she was cleaning for, everything had blended together as she worked to ensure everything sparkled. She had finished the floors awhile ago, working on the windows now and fighting not to get distracted by everything happening outside. These windows were not cleaned often due to the fact that not many cats came down this way so Evren made it her mission to make the windows as clean as possible.

Each swipe of the cloth cleared the fogging just a bit and Evren worked to ensure all of the dirt was dealt with. Her humming continued the whole time she was cleaning, she needed to keep focus. Despite the struggle her head was trying to play Evren never wanted to stop the task, even as the window looked almost perfect she was determined to make it look even better. The time had passed without her noticing, it wasn’t until she heard another cat behind her that she pulled away from the task.

“Oh! Hello!” She chirped warmly, beaming.

“Evren, how long have you spent on that window?” Neven asked, tilting his head and Evren couldn’t find an answer, shyness creeping up the back of her next about how long she had spent on this one area. “It’s getting late, why don’t I help you finish up?” He offered and Evren nodded, shuffling her paws. The embarrassment didn’t last for long as they both got busy with cleaning and Evren was thankful.

“Pick up your paws!” “You’re not trying enough! Work harder! Push yourself!” “Where is the effort!” The words were barked at her. Furious and charged with frustration. Why wasn’t she trying hard enough? Why wasn’t she pushing herself? Each tackle from her mentor knocked the wind from her lungs, each negation making her heart ache with guilt. She wasn’t good enough for them, why wasn’t she good enough for her mentor. He was renowned as the best mentor, the one who was able to build the best guards. Alvara threw herself into the tackle, trying to dodge, but his large form knocked her down once more. Heat was flooding from her forehead but she refused to stop until she was able to show her mentor she was good enough for him to be training her.

“Why are you so weak!” He barked out again and Alvara fought to keep her paws under herself.

“I’m trying-“ she whispered with all the power she could muster.

“Trying isn’t good enough! You have to prove it!” Alvara just drooped. She couldn’t remember the last time a kind word was uttered her way. Once he lunged again she darted out of the way and bit his paw, lunging over him. Her claws were out for the first time this training session and fury burned in her eyes as she loomed over him, teeth bared and ready to attack if he moved. She wanted to snap at him, to yell she was trying and working and to just shut up, but all that emerged was a growl.

For once he was silent, just looking up at his furious trainee. Alvara hoped he could see the fury in her eyes, hoped he could see all the joy she once had had flickered away by his hand. She once dreamed of becoming a guard and he had ruined it for her. She prayed he could see that in her eyes.

I've answered a Clan prompt!
Username + ID: PeepinBones + 1045189
Clan Using: Defiant-Storm
Prompt: Territory 1
Prompt Response:
On a hilltop, covered in the dark shadow of the pine forest, a junkyard sits, far from abandoned. The humans may have left it, but the cats stayed ever loyal to their home. They’ve overrun this yard and heavily fortified it, making it the most dangerous clan in Mountain’s Glade: Defiant-Storm. Piles of rusted metal take on new life as sacred objects, highly utilized by each and every cat. Everyone who calls this clan their own is decked out with glittering metal armor, fierce oxidised weapons, and sharp claws, always ready for a fight. They’re wild, yet firmly structured with strict laws and regulations that forcefully guide lives. Defiant-Storm is a force to be reckoned with, whether you live within its walls or outside them.

Clan Using: Defiant-Storm
Prompt: Territory 5
Prompt Response:
Defiant-Storm is positioned on a large flat hilltop near the base of a towering mountain range. They’re further from the mountains than their rival clans, but one can still see the peaks where the tree line breaks. As the land descends from the hill, sharp boulders are woven in between the dense forest that stick up like spikes, waiting to impale someone. They make it a treacherous trip up and down the hill, with both scenarios having a high risk of slipping and falling onto one of the deadly rocks. The boulders protect the clan from sneaky rogues or invaders trying to close in on their territory, but they hinder the clan’s own scouting spies just trying to do their job. As such, all spies have to be thoroughly trained to traverse the steep landscape without injuring themselves.

The flat top and center of Defiant-Storm’s territory take little effort to navigate, footing-wise, but the densely packed pine trees prove to be an irritating obstacle for any cat trying to find their way. There are some large rock formations near the mountains, but most of the forest is free of major landmarks. It’s again another dizzying trait of the territory that can easily confuse foreign cats that find their way into Defiant-Storm.

Username + ID: PeepinBones + 1045189
Clan Using: Defiant-Storm
Prompt: Territory 6
Prompt Response:
Due to the thick population of trees, their constant shade keeps the sun from drying out the soil when it rains or snows, leaving the territory a muddy and moist mess at all times. It would be impossible to wade through if layers of needles and other debris from the pine trees didn’t form solid patches to walk on. The soil itself is also particularly red and stains most things and fur easily. Clan cats are used to having muddy paws and dirty fur from any type of excursion, so much so that some don’t even bother to clean it off and just stay stained in red-tinted dirt constantly.

Where the sun does shine through the mass of tree limbs, moss and other moisture-loving plants crowd the limited space in droves, but other than that, the ground stays mostly dirt with thin grass here and there. The ground itself isn’t prime for growing most anything other than moss. Even healthy herbs in the sunniest spots tend to wilt; this means medicinal remedies practised in the clan are makeshift at best. What does grow is nowhere near the same quality as in other territories, so the menders of the clan do a lot of outsourcing for the needed resources.

Clan Using: Defiant-Storm
Prompt: Territory 8
Prompt Response:
Tall pine trees cover Defiant-Storm’s territory in constant shade with very sparse ‘sunspots’ that show up at specific times of the day. This has its pros and cons for the landscape, most notably, on the positive side, the shade keeps the metal strewn about from heating up in the sun and burning or catching dry grass on fire. The shade does mean that on colder days and in leafbear, the few sunspots that are available are overcrowded with grumpy cats all fighting for space. The most constant spot lands on top of the den of the clan’s leader. This is the only spot that is exclusively occupied by one cat.

During the dimmer parts of the day, most of the light comes from raging furnaces made within the old station house at the back corner of the camp. Red and orange light shines brightly through broken glass windows of the building, illuminating the junkyard until the fire goes out at the end of the day. At night, moonlight rarely peaks through the trees, except in some of the aforementioned sunspots, masking the clan in pitch-black darkness. Any light that does sneak in reflects and scatters off of the strewn metal, making it difficult to traverse even with a cat’s natural night vision.

I've answered a Clan prompt!
Username + ID: PeepinBones + 1045189
Clan Using: Defiant-Storm
Prompt: Territory 11
Prompt Response:
Ironically, the climate stays calm and cold inside Defiant-Storm’s territory. The only time they see major storms is in the heat of greenleaf. The valleys below their hilltop position take the brunt of the extreme weather, while their dense forest protects them from heavy snowfall and dangerous storms above from wiping them out. Lightning does frequently strike tree tops during peak storm season, and can, at times, send limbs or entire trees falling down to the ground below. Any cat caught under them can kiss their life goodbye, as hardly any survive being hit by such a heavy force. Because of this fact, storms are well known as something that cannot be trifled with when their season hits.

Throughout the changing moons, blocked sunlight from the surrounding forest keeps the territory cool at all times, even on the hottest of days. This proves helpful when the temperature is high, but when the season changes to bareleaf, the bitter cold can be deadly. Only the heat from the clan’s furnaces can warm their bodies then. The tree cover does keep falling snow at bay when it hits their hilltop. Deep accumulations are few and far between, allowing clan cats to have more freedom of movement during the season.
