A small cobblestone cottage hidden amongst thick lushes forest and vast greenery. Vines creeping over the rocky walls as spring blossoms coat the forest floor. A rusted water wheel sat above a little pond, homing koi’s of every colour and size. An aesthetic wood sign hung from string on the door, the words ‘welcome’ engraved carefully into it. Floral curtains dangled from the top of the window frames. From an outside view, it almost appears as a magical fairy wonderland, thats the outside...

Inside, mayhem commences. Beneath a timber plank floor, from potions to spell books, witchcraft equipment it scattered everywhere. Sipping a chai latte, Juniper settled onto a wood stool that was small enough for a 12 year old. Her 2 large stacks of paperwork hide a clear orb she hadn’t used in years. Reaching out she grabs the top sheet of the left pile. Both piles are separated accordingly, one of the only things Juniper manages to organise. The left is for her modern life, the right is for her witchcraft. You see, Juniper jumps through the modern realm and the wizardry and witchcraft realm, something very well illegal.

Being born in the Magical world, Juniper felt there was more to life than spells and enchantments, something beyond that. That's when she came across an old, worn out book in her Grandfather basement. "The magic of realms... 1832..." That night, everything Juniper had believed and wished for, had been confirmed, there is more beyond her realm, more beyond life as she knew it.

For many years of endless research, she came across the modern realm, and how to get there. The sound of it gave her memories she never owned. "Thats where I belong." After that, Juniper was determined to make something, something that she could hide in, something to protect her. That is when the cobblestone getaway was born, a shack that she could move to each world, the thousand of spells cast on it to make it nearly impossible for anyone else to find. So that her home really is, wherever her heart is.

“Well, I can say earth is pretty strange, but it makes a lot more sense than my home planet. I’ve been kinda living in a friend’s basement right now, so I guess I could tell about both.

We don’t have anything like this back on my home world, it’s mostly only buildings that extend in every possible direction at once. The architecture is a marvel, but when it’s practically everywhere it does become an eyesore. It’s... it’s a very boring place with nothing much to do aside from the military, and look how that ended!” Vega chuckled at the thought quite a bit, recounting the stories they had on the planet. “The technology’s real nice, but I am prohibited from using any of it since I once tried to install some games that I made, and I ended up breaking the entire broadcasting system for a few months. It was really funny, until they found me.”

Vega, to say they were chaotic was a understatement.

“Anyways, I stole a ship because it got boring over there. Problem is, I never had driven a ship so I managed to get completely lost, and then I crashed into Felipe’s yard, and I’ve been living in his basement since then. According to him, he said the area was ‘suburban’ or something? I don’t really get that, but the houses are quite big compared to back home. Where I live now there’s a bunch of equipment that he has to track cryptids or something, which is odd since I’ve seen him levitating stuff sometimes?? Either way, I may have made some modifications to ‘improve’ those devices, since they’re pretty outdated, I can’t really tell if any of them work?

Earth has some really weird customs, such as relationships and kits that don’t come from vats. Felipe had to introduce all sorts of things, such as the laws they have here, and cars. As strange as it is, it’s a lot more interesting and fun to be here! There’s actually something to do, and the food is a lot better than my home planet to say the least. The snacks here are really good.”

They quickly pop a cookie in their mouth, and continues on when they’re finished.

“As for the actual house itself, where I’m staying is a guest room that Felipe never used, and it has a ‘nightstand’ and a ‘bed’ with a ‘alarm clock’. Supposedly you’re supposed to sleep on the bed, but I prefer the carpet, much to his dismay. He keeps a bunch of journals scattered everywhere, all with notes of the mythical creatures he’s documented. He’s had no luck proving it to anyone else besides Bethany, a vampire he became friends with somehow. It’s quite disorganized, even for myself really but I can’t blame him. Sometimes Felipe drags me outside sometimes to look for the cryptids he keeps talking about, but honestly it’s really entertaining and funny to watch. Beth’s there sometimes, and she just joins in watching with me.

While I didn’t really like it here at first, I don’t think I’ll be leaving anytime soon. The air smells a lot better than my home planet, and it’s definitely less bland. The authorities back there probably wouldn’t want me to come back anyways, which I’m fine with cause this so much more fun!

Recently, after Felipe somehow managed to fix the touchscreen in my ship it seems that the colony that founded my home planet came from here based on some files I uncovered afterwards. So I guess I’m not as alien as I thought, because it confirms all of us are kalons.”

Vega seemed interested, practically amazed in Mel’s bull Oran now, seemingly in awe.

“Wow, so this is a cow! I’ve seen pictures of them, but I don’t believe I’ve seen a bull in person!”

ft. seth and alistair
-----

Two kalons approach the field. They lead their horses, a young leopard appaloosa and a dark bay, slowly as they move to the centermost part of the field, chatting between themselves quietly. As they take their saddles off of their companions and allow them to wander the field and have themselves a short snack, they end up asleep next to each other as they wind down from the intensity of the city they'd just been through. The sudden intrusion of Oran startles both of them, and Seth laughs as he watches Alistair try to fix his hair after it had been disturbed by the bull. Both of them sit up in the lush, green grass, and they look between each other before they start talking, as if they're trying to decide where to start and who should cover what. Seth whistles as Alistair begins, standing to tend to their horses and make sure there are no burrs stuck in the fur at the end of their legs.

"Our home," Alistair starts, putting one hand to his chin. "I guess you could call it old-fashioned. It's not much in the way of civilization, but there's nice folk around."

"And everyone's real friendly with each other," Seth adds, his smile exaggerated by the pale blue teeth that stick up from beneath his lower lip. "Couple of nearby towns around that I frequent, and all of 'em are nice. Some of 'em a little more dreary than others, though," he states, a strange look on his face. "One of the sheriffs seems a little off, is all. Nice fella, if you catch him on the right day. He just, uh... Well, he's kinda gloomy, is all." Alistair nods a little, standing to help Seth hoist one of the saddles back onto one of the horses.

"His town is an odd one. Well, they all are. It's uh, normal at a glance," Alistair begins again, "but the longer you stick around the more oddities you tend to notice." He tightens the strap of the saddle around his horse, and Seth does the next on his own, giving the darker of the two horses an affectionate pat while he gets them ready for travel again. "There are monsters 'round some parts, from giant dogs and men with three heads to strangers that have risen from their graves. All kinds of unexplainable things you would sound crazy describing to a group around a campfire."

"I even saw a vampire once," Seth says excitedly, giving his horse another pat before he faces Mel again. "An' yeah, there are quite a few folks around that have come back from the dead. A little odd, but they're nice enough when you get t'know 'em. And they don't smell or anything, either. Never really bothered to ask about it, truth be told. They sell me pelts and give me a fair price for provisions, so I don't really care what's happened to 'em, long as they stay civil with me."

Alistair has a strange expression on his face for a moment as Seth mentions vampires, but he shakes his head gently and moves onto his next thought. "I run a library in one of the smaller towns, and I've tried to read what I can about the whole situation with these strange folks. Not too much on it, honestly, but anything helps. I've thought about writing something myself, but... It's too much work. I'll let the next curious fella do it, I guess."

"Ah, but your bull there is somethin' else," Seth says, reaching a hand out to pet the gentle giant's snout. "Real beaut', he is. Probably would've fit in at the old circus," he says, but the two kalons look a little off at the mention of it. "Not much of anything now, though," he adds, giving the cow another gentle pat before he withdraws his hand. "Weren't too good to their animals, unfortunately," he says, frowning as he puts a hand on the back of his neck. "Not too good to the people, either. Ended up falling apart when one of the employees had enough of the ringmaster, so they uh..."

"There was a shootout," Alistair interrupts. "Can't say I blame the fella, after all he'd been through. Still, might've been a better way to do it." Seth nods briefly. "Rest of the circus folk are in some kind of gang now, I believe. I feel bad for 'em, really. Wish I could help them out. Teach them how to read, give them a job sorting books or something. Guess it's just a fool's dream, though."

"Not the worst bunch, though," Seth says, shrugging his shoulders. "They pay well enough when they want somethin' made, or come around asking to sell furs to me. Heard good things about them in some towns. Not so much in others. Guess it all depends on where they ramble now, whether there's anything worth stealin' and if the people are the sort of folk who might deserve to be taken down a notch."

Alistair nods a little, and puts his hand to his chin again. "Think they've been to the library, asking to borrow a book or two. And sometimes they pick up bounty posters at the other sheriff's office. Not sure how they manage that with the bounty on their heads, but maybe Liam can't stand to lock 'em up after the stories that have gone around. Not like they really did anything so bad, after all..."

They both laugh a little nervously, before Seth nudges Alistair gently. "Should get headin' out," he tells him, and Alistair nods in agreement.

"All right, Seth." He puts one foot in the stirrup of his horse, but turns to give a dreary little smile to Mel before he hops on. "Thanks for listening to us fools ramble on a bit," he says. "Always nice to have someone new to share stories with."

“A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life.” ― Charles Darwin
“Learn to value yourself, which means: fight for your happiness.” ― Ayn Rand
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” ― Bernard M. Baruch

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

Prompt 3: Home Is Where the Heart Is (open)

Ken giggles as she reaches out towards Oran & pats him on the head, "oh don't worry about it! I grew up in the countryside, I adore these creatures!" She introduces herself as Mel speaks to her. When the question of home popped up, her train of thought became muddy. "Home..." Ken hesitated as her mind briefly wandered to the miserable town she grew up in, a bleeding wound she wished to forget. "Oh! I recently saved up enough money to move to this studio apartment in the city! I never really liked the lonely countryside, & so I moved there. I left everything behind. My friends, my girlfriend, my-" Ken caught herself. Ken, stop scaring people away with your pessimism, she silently scolded herself. "I'm getting off track, sorry! The city is so beautiful! I love waking up & seeing the view of the world from above. I feel like I belong, you get me? I also get to decorate my place however the hell I want, so that means plants & paintings everywhere! It's like my own paradise." She trails off again. Though she loved it there, she never anticipated the loneliness of the whole ordeal. "...I always thought the countryside was lonely, but it's kinda lonely in the city too, being new & all. Haha." Ken laughed nervously. A sudden realization came to her as she looked back up at the figure standing in front of me. "Say, you're my first friend here. We're friends now, right? How 'bout paying me a visit sometime?"

"my home?" asmodeus repeated. he thought over the question for a few moments, leaning back slightly. "well, i don't really live in the city. or anywhere around here, actually. i rule a planet. despite me ruling said planet, i chose to live in a little cabin-cottage thing a little bit away from the main part of the biggest town. well, i kind of chose to. it was on my family's farm, where they lived. and they passed it all down to me. including the throne," he described. he thought back to his home, never really having reflected on it much before. it really was quite the beautiful place, wasn't it? "i'm mainly the only one working on the farm most of the time, but my lovely wife, kiara, does tend to the garden sometimes, too. it's a pretty big farm, in my opinion. we've got animals, too. there are a lot of animals back on my planet. some similar to earth's, some just entirely unique. i won't get into all of them now, though, but i would like to describe one of my favorites, if that's alright?" asmodeus questioned, though he planned to continue regardless of what mel answered with. "they're similar to cows and goats, i'd say. they're more on the shorter and smaller side, but they're a little like cows, too. they're called varons! i have a few on my farm myself, and my favorite, her name's sweetheart. a creative name, i know," he laughed. what could he say? he wasn't all that good with coming up with names.

"oh, i almost forgot to mention, the planet's name is sumara!" he continued happily. "we have a lot of weather that's absolutely perfect for farming, which is probably why i've got such a big farm. there are a few others who live near me with farms, too. but most of the residents live in a big city, which is pretty much the biggest part of sumara. there are gorgeous sights to see, especially at night when everything is all lit up! think earth's new york city, but bigger and more modern-like. there's a lot of fluctuation between things, depending on where you're at. but i guess that goes for pretty much any planet, huh?" asmodeus sighed and rocked back. he hadn't really taken the time out to appreciate his home and how nice it was. "i think it's really nice there. a lot of gorgeous lights, and so many interesting plants! not only is the scenery and stuff wonderful, but i think the people living there are the best part. everyone's pretty nice, apart from a few exceptions. i think that you'd like it there. you should come visit it sometime. i'd take you, if you wanted. you know, even if you don't want to move there or anything, it would make a nice little vacation!" asmodeus promoted. even when he was first meeting someone, he was promoting his lovely planet. "oh, i've been talking about sumara for a while, haven't i? i'm sorry, i won't continue to bore you," he joked. "i'll leave you to it, now. but thank you for letting me realize just how much i really love my home."

as asmodeus walked away, he sighed to himself. but it was a good sigh. reflecting back on his home and how much it meant to him was a good thing. he was very glad that some man he had just met had given him the opportunity. maybe he would come back and tell him a little more next time.
