[ platonic best friends ]
name. cinnamon ⤖ kharis romeave | gender. female
name. demitasse ⤖ mai lume | gender. female
kharis muttered a long groan. her head was in deep pain and she couldn't sense the things arou
nd her. the throbbing in her head ceased to well, cease. she wearily looked up from her positio
n on the ground. she lay groaning, her legs and arms bent out at weird angles that made them l
ook broken although the worse injury she seemed to have was a dislocated shoulder. she winced
as she tried to position herself into a sitting position.
her horse has thrown her off of her with a force that was to be reckoned with. she turned to th
e side when she saw a new face run over to her and helped her to her feet. "mad'am, that stee
d has just come back from the war. . . i would not suggest riding them any further in fear of the
m hurting you any more." although she had spoken, kharis didn't necessarily reply to her. she wa
s staring at the stable girl. she had beautiful golden hair, beaming yellow eyes, and a smooth co
mplexion. she could easily be my best friend. kharis thought momentarily.
being the princess of the crimson kingdom was not an easy feat. her eldest brother, whom was s
aid to be put to the throne within the year, was recently passed within yet another gruesome ba
ttle with the cerulean clan. not to mention that now, her youngest brother, kyro, was not to be p
osition king within the next two months once he weds the the cerulean princess, natasha, who ha
d agreed to bind a contract through blood between the two clans to bring peace to the 300 year
war that reigned over every second of their lives. she needed someone in her life to cool her do
wn and vent to.
"i recon i should be fine dear," kharis dipped her head and bowed as she dusted her stable cloth
ing off. "say. . ." "mai. mai lume." "say mai. . . would you like to join me for some tea this afterno
on?" she asked with a smile. mai looked stunned. not knowing what to really say at all. she was no
t in the position to be speaking to the royal princess. she was a mere peasant who was just glad th
at her brother would be coming home from the war effort soon. "I-I. . . I would be delighted to mi
ss." kharis physically jumped with joy. giving a small little hop and clap of gratitude before she sl
ung an arm around mai's shoulders in a friendly manner. "feel free to drop the formalities mai! wer
e friends, please call me kharis."

Cinnamon ↪ Ellis
Demitasse ↪ Ursa
she never found the idea of leaving the orchard appealing. until today, that is. for the first time in maybe a millennium, something was changing outside of the apple grove. the land should've prevented anyone from entering the field let alone outside the gates and yet, a blonde kalon stood curiously admiring the heavy metal fence guarding the sacred trees.
"hello?," called out the woman, "Is anyone here? I'm a little lost if you can't tell. I could really use some directions."
how long has it been since she'd heard another voice? a millennium perhaps. certainly not after she became the groves chosen guardian.
"hello," her voice sounded foreign to herself. when was the last time she spoke?
"oh hi! I'm ursa! what's your name?"
what was her name- oh, ellis. it's been so long, it's so easy to forget a name when you never use it.
"ellis"
"oh! that's a pretty name!," the kalon tried to stick her head through the gates, "where are you? I don't think I see you? no need to hide from me or anything, I don't bite. unless you want me to!"
ursa laughed, full on cackled really, at her own joke. ellis isn't sure what to make of the fluttering sensation in her chest.
"Is this an apple grove? we only have pears, plums, and potatoes in my village. I don't think I've ever even tasted an apple before. You must have, though. I mean, you are here in an apple grove and I don't think It's your first time here. Or it could be, I just met you," the girl just rambles and rambles but she doesn't seem phased by her lack of filter. It's kind of - what's the word? her mother said it about the family cat once - oh! endearing. a beat. oh yes, she had to reply.
"I am the groves chosen guardian. I have tasted it's sacred fruit, but only at the trees command. I would never harm anything of my grove without the permission of my trees."
"ok, I have to admit... I don't know what any of that means. Sounds kinda crazy, actually, but I believe you. I don't think I've ever talked to a tree before. What's that like?"
"It's not precisely talking to trees, rather more prophetic I'd suppose. They send me dreams in slumber with the words they can't say."
"You talk kinda weirdly, ya know? Kinda fancy with big words and stuff. I like it. Everyone in my village just speaks like me. You sound like one of those fancy royals or somethin'. Hey, you aren't a royal, are you? I mean it wouldn't change anything, but I dunno. I can see it."
"No, I am not a royal. I simply come from a time where language was more languid and elegant. No offense, of course," her village was really anything but royal. barely making meets end at the end of the season. It's times like these she wonders what ever happened to it all after she joined the grove.
"Oh, neat! Is this grove like magic? I don't think I've ever actually seen real magic," it's a jarring experience to see someone interested in the grove instead of interested in it's fruit. a good jarring.
"Yes, it is magic to a degree. This grove is where the fruit of sight grows."
"Oh, fruit of sight? I think I read about that once. My sister from another mister, mauve, was really into magic fruit and stuff and told me about it I think. People haven't seen the fruit for years, right? Kinda like a legend. Well, not anymore of course but still."
Now that's a surprise. The groves been written about? How strange. She hums noncommittally and before she can stop herself, the words just come falling out, "Say, would you like to enter the grove?"

teaochii │ cinna. ➞ divinity │ demi. ➞ demi │ both use she/her & they/them pronouns
i.
the definition of divinity is the state or quality of divine, and right now divinity looked nothing even close to divine. she tripped and stumbled her way though the halls, sloppily wiping her eyes and trying to look where she was going at the same time. finally making it to the library, after many missteps and bumps with other confused students, she slammed the door behind her- well, as softly as she possibly could because this was the library- and ran into one of the aisles full of books. surely nobody could find her in here. her school was rather wealthy, therefore having a large library for this who enjoyed studying in peace and quiet. if she just hid in one of the many aisles, she could possibly get away with storming out of class.
of course, she had a reason to do so, and one that made sense too. but, it's not like she was going to snitch on the bullies, or else things would get worse. she heaved out a sigh, regained her dignity and walked out from the aisle trying to be as calm and collected as possible. divinity approached the librarian, who was known for being an airhead-but very sweet nonetheless- old lady, and smiled.
"hello miss, may i please have a tissue? i think my nose is bleeding." for side effects, she put her paw to her muzzle and sniffed, wincing. the librarian quickly looked up from her books and gasped, wobbling up from her spinny office chair.
"right away dear! does your head feel fuzzy? did you exert yourself too much in gym? what happened??" she grabbed a tissue for divinity and passed it into her hands, cupping them in the process. "why don't you take a seat and relax for a bit! i'm sure your teacher will understand!"
divinity smiled and nodded, putting the tissue up to her noise and quickly turning around after thanking the nice librarian. teachers here don't care about the students as much as you do, but thank you for the help. i sure do hope they'll understand though, i guess my bloody nose plan worked, so they probably will. i'm sure they will barge in here any minute now. just as divinity was about to sit down, the doors to the library slammed open, making her jump back up and turn around.
"oh."
ii.
"divinity, is that you crouching behind the chair? it's me, demi. the teacher sent me," demi hesitantly spoke, stepping forward a bit and then backing off. a muffled grumble was heard from behind the chair as divinity rose up again with the tissue to her nose. "wow, you look awful- no offense."
"none taken, i already know that. you said the teacher sent you?" divinity staggered over to demi and looked at her curiously. demi shuffled her feet, looking up at divinity and sighing.
"yeah. if you don't mind me asking, why did you run out of class like that? we were in the middle of writing haikus and you just up and left. was it them again?"
divinity sighed, turning around and padding back towards the small table in the corner of the library. she gestured to the other cushion and demi looked around and then followed suit.
"yeah, it was them," divinity slouched in the chair, avoiding demi's pitiful gaze, "how'd you know?"
"just a hunch." both of them sat in a comfortable silence, acknowledging each other's pain. the notorious bullies in the school picked on everyone they disliked, and even sometimes others in their group. basically nobody who disagreed with their opinions. they were absolutely horrible, and their favorite punishment was to embarrass or pick on their victim until they dropped out of the school.
"they did it to me too," demi choked out, "and i don't know why they stopped but i'm scared and i-" divinity shushed her, smiling sadly. she hugged the shaking girl and their combined tears dripped onto each others' shoulders. half laughing and half crying, demi pulled away, grinning at divinity.
"let's be friends. let's stop them together," demi made her hand into a fist, "i know we could." divinity cheekily grinned back, her 'bloody nose' long forgotten. she sniffed, wiping her tears away and replied.
"yeah, let's take those bullies down!"
and so their mission began.
