Competition Portion: Wiley is a very wiley mare. When hustlers tried roping her, she attempted to flee. Wiley is known to escape her captors whether or not they want her to. She was found with a broken lasso around her neck after another failed attempt at bringing in the wild mare. A young man had returned early from the round up with torn jeans, cuts on his arms, and very bruised legs. It is assumed she gave that poor kid a good "drag" for his money before the lasso finally tore apart. Any further attempts to catch her or remove the lasso end in vein. Perhaps Wiley is just meant to stay wild and produce foals for the next round up.

The two have been friends since they were fillies. They loved to play games with each other and play tricks on one another. When they got older, their simple pranks grew to more daring deeds. They often raced each other and played tag. They pushed the other to do better and break boundaries on limitations. While some might not care for their behavior, there’s no denying how they bolster each other’s spirits. Keahi brings Haukea out of her shell which is a feat still unachieved by the stable workers or other horses, for that matter.

Vishnu is hard-headed, to say the least. He has his way of seeing the world, and he stubbornly rejects anything that spoils that world. This stallion has a strong sense of morals and he sticks to them without question. He feels that everyone should always do the right thing, no matter what, even if it isn't the easiest thing. This staunch tie to his worldview often leaves him alone--no one wants to hang out with someone who judges every action that isn't perfectly altruistic. At some base level of his being, he knows he should be at least slightly more accommodating to other viewpoints and ways of life. However, ritual and habit always win in the end, and he continues to push others who aren't like-minded away.

She opened her eyes.

Glorious, the world around her was; full of life and bloom,
of green shades so varying and a sky that was beyond
measure. Only the clifftops could touch them, the birds
just wishing to do so as the stone. Existence continued
for eternity under the blue and amongst the green.

Birth, death, rebirth. A cycle continually in motion.

And closing her eyes, a moment all it seemed, proved
enough for all to change. For a tyrant of the elements
to rest a shroud of distaste and anger over the green,
to turn it all to ash. Set the peak above to churning
like a vapid, contemptuous man jilted by another.
Terror, blurred colors, the smell of ash and ember...
she could close her eyes and wish it away, but the
stench buried deep in her nostrils.

Fled, she did, with others just as stricken as Ilusime.

But time flowed, the current of cycles never ceasing.
She aged, Ilusime, became jaded and hardened, then
softened by memory alone. She closed her eyes,
listened to the rumblings of the youths beckoning her
forward. Memory told of her steps, filled blanks left
by closed eyes of the green that had once been, of
the trees and the birds and the blue only touched by
the stone. Ilusime could still smell the acrid pyre of
her once-home, could hear the burning and the
squealing faintly in her hazy mind.But other scents
arose with it now; that is green, of lushness and living.
Songs of flight gently tickled her ears, whispers of
grass against her heels encouraged her forward. The
youths she followed blindly had stopped some feet
behind, but Ilusime continued; moved past the fear
and desperation, through the choking plumes of
destruction and out of the dark that overtook her.

And, when she opened her eyes, her heart reached
beyond even what the birds could touch.

Calamity's favorite place is the banks of Black Briar Creek a long creek running through the stable property. The creek itself was named for the surrounding black briar that also gives the property and stables its name. Calamity's favorite place is the creek because he considers it so peaceful a perfect spot for thinking or relaxing. Nothing there to disturb unlike the usually hectic air of the stable. Simply the soft sound of the running creek and the calls of birds and squirrels.
