the little female sat quietly. the eyes of the assistant caretaker were narrowed. that's how she kept everything in focus. her eyesight was never the best, and she was quite surprised when tempest allowed her to have her desired rank even though she knew about her eye problem. if her eyes were wide open, many things seemed blurry, when they weren't open all the way, everything looked normal. a sudden cold wind chilled the fluffy-coated evergreen. it seemed to swirl about her. the sun was no help. all it seemed to do at the moment was do it's usual cycle as it watched everything below it continue to shiver even though it was the end of winter. the harsh, harsh winter. many times it threatened to take her life, and she often wondered how she even survived. evergreen got lost in her maze of thoughts, but snapped out of it when she noticed a large black male making his way over to her. what did she do? did she break a rule? she began to tremble slightly. only the elders talked to her willingly because they knew of her thirst for knowledge, causing her to be almost as wise as them. the only time a wolf her own age or lower spoke to her was because they had to.
evergreen froze when the brute stopped in front of her. to her surprise, he spoke with kindness and his only intention was to engage in small talk with her. at least as far as the little wolf could tell. "h-hello, kit. my name is-is evergreen..." her voice was soft and timid, "and the pleasure is all mine, she quickly added.

the sun's rays settled on the black brute's matted-down coat, engulfing him with the little warmth they provided in the end of winter. he sat on the cold rock with his eyes closed. he felt so peaceful and relaxed; something he hasn't felt since before he realized the responsibility that was going to be bestowed onto him. the only thing he cared to listen to at that moment was the river that roared at him & the world surrounding and the steady drip of water falling off of his fur. all of his worries seemed to disappear from his mind. the pack has barely eaten... there has to be something i can do, gone. there are so many loners. are they going to band together and overthrow tempest?, gone. we have to survive this. but can we?, gone. and that is only a few of his questions that often stressed him. he felt as if time had stopped, and he never wanted it to start again.
the scout's serenity was short-lived, for the sound of the leaves rubbing together of trees and bushes caused talon's eyes to open. as soon as he caught the first sight of color and movement, everything came flooding back to him. the worries. the scents. the terrible memories. the responsibilities. reality. with a sigh, he hung his head. talon knew he wouldn't be able to get that exact same feeling back again. and he knew it would be a long time before he could feel something moderately close to what he felt only moments ago. his ears flicked when he heard rocks tumbling back into place. he looked over in the direction of the noise, and jumped slightly when he saw another wolf, causing him to slip off the rock.
talon fell into the strong river with a splash. despite being quite frail for a grown male wolf, he still had muscle and used it to get back onto shore quite a ways down the riverbank before he was swept away. he pulled himself back onto the solid ground. the brute lay there, panting. as soon as he recollected himself, he stood up. everything looked so cold and dark. the river seemed to be laughing at him. his heart still was thumping rapidly from the adrenaline. colors seemed to be blended together. he shook his head before he started to make his way back up stream where he saw the other wolf. he quickened is pace as he got closer, wondering if it was a loner. talon felt extremely relieved when he realized it was just a pack member. but what was her name? tyra? lyla? who knows how many names he went through before it finally came to him. the brute stopped a few feet away from the fae, "hello, lyla," he dipped his head in respect.
