Maned Valehounds are highly intelligent, wolf-like mammals. They live in many diverse climates but prefer northern mountain and forest regions where their thick fur coats allow them protection against the elements. They are typically nomadic and travel in large tribes consisting of many families and overlapping generations. Valehounds are strong, loyal creatures worthy of respect.

Fen Tribe

This large tribe inhabits the vast plains region south of the mountains. It is abundant in herd prey, such as bison and antelope. Fen has hundreds of members and dozens of large families. In Fen Tribe, males that come of age at twenty-one must go on their own to survive and hunt in the wilderness. If they return early, they are allowed to try again later, but do not earn the right to find a mate and cannot take on adult jobs. If they return at or after two weeks, they are welcomed home and thrown a ceremonial party in which they take their rightful places in the Common.

Boneyard Tribe

The Bones, as they are commonly known, are a small tribe the live in the near-barren rocky hills at the foot of the northern mountains. They are a ramshackle bunch, composed of loners and outcasts and fragments of other tribes that were wiped out or pushed off their lands. Its survival of the fittest in the Boneyard, the Vales rule with iron fists, and the council are just bullies that carry out their leaders' orders. When males come of age, they set off to a grave site to dig up a Valehound skull of one of their ancestors', even the recently-deceased. They wear the skulls over their own heads to signify remembering the past, learning from your mistakes, and being strong enough to overcome the failures of those left behind.

Forest Tribe
This tribe is the most well know, but not because of their harshness, but because of their kindness and belief in second chances. They strive in the think woods across the plains from the mountains. They are all very kind and weirdly in this tribe, they look at each other more as equals than having a severe pecking order. The Vales and Council Members still rank the highest, but their leading is about everyone's opinion and acceptance. They are similar to the Boneyard Tribe in the sense that this tribe can be made up of outcasts, but differ in the fact they are kinder and not as dark.

Moon Rise Tribe
on the coast. The entire coast. The dens are in the caves on the mountains that border the northern coast. Which is soft sand. Some make a den near the southern border. But since there are no caves and the tide goes the farthest there. The Vale of the tribe is usually always a female. To them, females can talk to the moon and the tides. And considering females are the most connected to the moon. So it's almost always a female. And healers also tend to be female, it's just a trend in the tribe. This tribe dawns the feathers of the sea faring birds. As well as make necklaces out of shells. By carefully poring holes into the shell or using one that is already there. They string fibers of the tough foliage that grow around there beaches through the holes. The vale has a specific headdress of these shell necklaces and wears many. As well as is known as they are the only ones who are aloud to use lobster, crab and sea star pieces. The hunts usually consist of sneaking up on seals on the northern shore. Even at times following a wounded seal into the water. A seal will usually feed the entire tribe with its thick layers of fat. This tribe is welcoming but very defensive. The females are the respected in this tribe. Similar to amazons.

Takashi is one of the strongest members of the Fen Tribe, some even predict that he will eventually become the Vale. However, his perpetual laziness and lack of ambition (and interest) keeps him out of the council and firmly in his position of the lead HuntsHound for the tribe. Takashi, however, has no interest in ever becoming the Vale or even joining the council. He is fully devoted to his job as a HuntsHound (it is the only thing that he devotes himself to fully) and has no desire to live any other way.
He is not particularly social, keeping to himself most of the time. He is incredibly loyal to the Vale of the Fen Tribe, although his aloof attitude and complete disregard towards the council may show otherwise.
He painted his skull-mask using berries.

Lavenderr is a really outgoing effeminate male. He's boisterous and loud, but kind and worries about his looks and self-image. He likes to be the center of attention, and makes everyone believe he's incredibly confident, but inside he's slightly insecure about his looks and about what others think of him. However, he tends to judge others by who they are on the inside, and not by how they look.
