Northern English Greyhounds
The Northern English Greyhound (NEG), or Northern Greyhound (NG), is a breed of sighthound that originated from The British Isles, in England. This dog has been bred to hunt game including hares, deer, foxes, and other small game. These dogs over time became more of a sports breed instead of a hunting breed because of how naturally fast and agile they are as well as intelligent. The NEG flourish in an environment where the can keep there energy stable by running in large areas.
Breed Standard
Male Northern Greyhounds range from 66-76 cm (26-30 in) at the withers.
Female Northern Greyhounds range from 58-26 cm (23-26 in) at the withers.
Male Northern Greyhounds should weigh 65 to 70 lbs.
Female Northern Greyhounds should weigh 60 to 65 lbs.
Coats are Smooth.
Any and all coat colors are acceptable.
Breed Faults (These prevent a NEG from being able to participate in conformation/specific trials.)
Double Merle
Blindness
Missing Limbs
"No" Ears
Collar
Dog collars serve two primary functions. First, they help keep your pet's ID tag attached to them at all times. And second, they offer an anchor point to attach a leash. As a dog owner, choosing the right collar for your pet is essential. NEGs collars can hold a little charm ;3 (Collars are used on every greyhound no matter what to show that they have been adopted.)
Harness
The padded mesh chest will ensure your Greyhound is comfortable during walks. It also has both front and rear leash attachment points, allowing you to choose which way to train your dog to walk. This is better for you, and your dog, as it gives you options to ensure your pup gets used to wearing it over time. NEGs harness' can also hold little charms. (only on the back leash zone because its the only visible open one) (Harnesses are reserved for special greyhounds or events.)
Halter
A head halter is a tool used to help teach dogs to walk nicely on a leash. When the dog pulls ahead of you on a walk, his head is turned back toward you, preventing him from getting further ahead. The halter minimizes forward motion, such as pulling, and gives directional control. By pulling gently upward, the person can use the halter to close the dog's mouth, which can help control nipping and mouthing. NEGs halters can have charms as well but only on the metal O-ring closest to it's ears. (Halters are reserved for special greyhounds or events.)
Vest
The vest applies a safe, calming pressure, which helps your dog feel protected in situations where he might otherwise feel exposed and vulnerable. (Vests are reserved for special greyhounds or events.)
