Is it ten per herd, or ten horses altogether before having to upgrade?

There's a difference between those, after all, since there's so many different types, so...ten per type/herd would equal up to a lot more.

I'm assuming it's ten altogether (example: you could have four in moon, three in dark, two in psychic, one in ice or something like that), but tell me if that's right.

I noticed in the gene's section it says "choose one of the elements similar to one of the parents"
Wouldn't if one parent was say poison and one was like dark or something wouldn't the foal be a half breed? Having being both poison and dark? Or can a foal with parents from different elements have just one element? And if both then how often will a foal be a half breed?

And what happens say if a poison dark was bred to a moon would it be a poison dark moon
Or just one of the elements or two of the elements?

I'll answer it in order cuz I'm confused by that lol

The foal could be a halfbreed, but it can also have only one element. It doesn't always and is quite uncommon for a foal to become a halfbreed, as the herds arent allowed to mix.

It depends on the artist's choice. The could choose 1 or two elements. 3 are the rarest combination that only have existed in the storm element.
