“Thank you.” Claystar replied, looking back over at the fresh kill pile. Perhaps he would just snag Poppyseed something, he remembered Olivebranch always being hungry when she was expecting their kits. Claystar froze, a deep frown creeping across his face. Why did he have to remember that now? “Let me grab you something.” Claystar said, clearing his throat. The oriental shorthair turned around quickly, hoping no one had caught on to his sudden mood shift. The Tom made his way over to the pile, eyeing over the options for just the right meal. His eyes fell on a plump mouse and her carefully picked it up, turning back towards the Queen. “Here.” Claystar said, setting the mouse down infront of Poppyseed. “Again, please don’t hesitate to ask if you need anything.” He added, forcing a soft smile on his face before quickly excusing himself; waving his tail in goodbye.
Claystar avoided looking at his kits as he passed the border patrol group again, making his way to his den. Once he stepped inside the tom let out a large sigh, sitting down. The tom hung his head, frustrated. These memories always came at the worst times.

Basilpaw looked over towards Stormcall, a small group forming around her mentor. Well, at least she had a chance to get out of camp. However her attempted to talk to Leafpaw he failed, they’d have to chat later. “You’re right.” Basilpaw said, looking over at Leafpaw. “We should catch up later!” Basilpaw chirped before trotting off towards the group. She stifled a chuckle as her brother tripped over his own paws. “Don’t worry Cloudpaw, you’ll grow into your paws one day.” Basilpaw teased, making sure to give him an affection lick on the shoulder for him to know she was just joking. “Good morning everyone!” Basilpaw mewed cheerfully before turning to face Stormcall. “Good morning Stormcall. Are we going on a patrol?”

“Oh sure, go ahead!” Apricotnose replied, turning back to reply to Littlerain. “Just know I’m not the most graceful.” She continued with a laugh, turning back towards the river. Amber eyes scanned the surface, noticing her shadow was falling towards her right. ‘Perfect’ Apricotnose thought to herself, lowering herself into a crouched position. They had come at just the right time of day, her shadow wouldn’t be seen by the fish yet. The fluffy she-cat skunk closer to the edge, un-sheathing her claws for extra support of the ledge. She took a quiet, deep breath, forcing herself to be as slow and still as she could.
Her eyes locked in her target; a small school of what she assumed to be young trout. Apricotnose focused on the one in the lead, knowing focusing on more than one would just throw her off. Apricotnose slowly adjusted her posture, getting ready to lash out at her prey. She would have to jump, the trout were just out of reach from a quick swipe. With a final shimmy, Apricotnose launched herself forward, from limbs extended forward. Soft paw pads met the slimy, cold scales of the fish and Apricotnose sunk her claws in as quick as she could; ignoring the cold water the was quickly enveloping her. Apricotnose quickly brought the trout to her mouth, firmly grasping the still moving fish between her teeth before kicking with her back paws, sending herself back to the surface. Apricotnose surfaced, grateful the current was so slow, and began doggy paddling to the riverbank. The warrior pulled herself with an exaggerated grunt, fluffy fur now flat against her body. With a swift chomp, the trout stopped moving. Apricotnose set her prey down and looked over at Littlerain with a smile. “Tada!”

Greyheart opened his maw to reply, but quickly closed it as Stormpaw and Cloudpaw approached. “You’ll have to learn some balance kid.” The mackerel tabby said, looking Cloudpaw up and down. He would stop himself from being too rude to the young tom, knowing this was Doesong’s first apprentice. She had done a good job training him, the boy was just clumsy. Basilpaw seemed to share that quality with her brother as well, although made not as bad. Greyheart sighed and turned his head to face his apprentice. “Of course, you need all the experience you can get.” The warrior confirmed with a curt nod. He was glad when Claystar had assigned Stormpaw as his apprentice. Out of all the siblings, Stormpaw had seemed the least troublesome. “We can practice identifying your surroundings as we patrol today.” Greyheart continued. Every outing was a lesson with Greyheart, he took his role as mentor very seriously. The tom looked over the group as Basilpaw joined, it seemed like everyone was there. “I think we’re all here. Should we head out?”
