Beetlewood flicked his tail as a way to say goodbye to Ladybirdflutter, taking a deep breath once his den was empty. He pawed at the bundle of herbs, taking in the scent of them. Rosepool. . . Oh how he missed his mentor. She was an old hag, but he adored her. Rosepool was like a second mother to him, and having been sent a sign that was seemingly from her about who to chose as his apprentice made him miss her even more, however, it was clear as day to him as to who he was to make his apprentice, though he didn't know if anyone would be happy about it. . . Herbpaw was so close to getting his warrior name, and Magpieflight had worked so hard to train him properly, it would be a shame to take that away from both of them. He sighed, conflicted on the idea of making Herbpaw his apprentice. On one paw it was Starclan's will, Herbpaw was destined to be a medicine cat, but on the other paw, was it fair to force him in to the position, especially if he didn't want it? But was it for Beetlewood to decide if Herbpaw even has a choice? As a medicine cat, he was supposed to trust in Starclan's choice, trust them to make the right choice for him and guide him to the answer, and they had indeed guided him to Herbpaw. It was a predicament for sure, one challenging his faith in Starclan and will to follow them, and his own desire to let his clan-mates chose their destinies and place in the clan.

Poppywisp's fur stood on end as the faint scent hit her nose. The fur on the back of her neck rose and she focused her gaze straight ahead, tail lashing from side to side. "I smell it too. . . it's not a cat scent, and there's no way Tranquilclan would have strayed this far in to our territory." She mewed, looking back behind her at her apprentice, "Charmingpaw," She mewed, her voice stern but gentle, "Stay behind me until we know what this scent is, I don't want you getting hurt unnecessarily." She said, giving her apprentice a small, reassuring smile. She cared for the young tom, and didn't want him anywhere near this, especially with how it made her fur stand on end just by the faint scent the patrol could smell. She turned back to Dragonstar, unsheathing her claws, but keeping right by his side. "Do you want to go further and see what it is? Or would you like me to do it. . . or we both can, it might be better if we go together. . I don't want anyone else on the patrol getting hurt, I don't want you getting hurt." She mewed, keeping her gaze focused on the space in front of her.

Starlingpaw gave a big nod, focusing on crossing the fallen tree in front of her. She stayed close to Kestrelclaw, making sure the tip of his tail wasn't more than a whisker's length away the whole time. Once they had all crossed, she let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding. Her eyes brightened when she stepped on to the other side, a large smile on her face. "I did it, Kestrelclaw!" The young molly purred with delight, bounding forward a little bit. She looked back, waiting for Kestrelclaw to catch up with her, her ears perked and tail held high in triumph that she had crossed successfully without needing any of her clan-mates help. "That was fun! Are we gonna walk over more trees like that?" She asked, nuzzling her mentor's cheek in a friendly manner. "Maybe I can get Magpieflight to take me and Jackdawpaw to cross more logs! Or the stepping stones!"

Iciclepaw huffed at Hollypaw's words, rolling his eyes. If his mentor wasn't interested in training him, then he wasn't interested in being trained. He had already done his hunting assessment a few days ago, so if Pyrefire wasn't going to do his battle assessment today, then he'd wait, though he doubted Pyrefire would pull himself away from Purpleflower any time soon to actually do his assessment. The tom sighed, gazing outside the den before slowly standing up and stretching his legs. He walked outside the den, glancing around until he located Pyrefire, right where he thought he would be, by Purpleflower's side.

Joel wandered the outskirts of Wildclan territory, trying to stay in the under brush where it was dryer. The tom was looking for something to eat, his stomach growling from hunger. He hadn't eaten since the other afternoon because of this rain, and he wasn't about to wait any longer for a piece of prey, even if it meant straying onto clan territory. The grey tom moved silently through the under-brush, ears pricked for any sound of prey, or the clan cats that might be lurking around also hunting for their breakfast.

Jaxton had hunkered down under a large bush, pressing himself against the ground in an attempt to keep dry. The only problem was that his belly kept growling with hunger. Even with his hunting skills, the young tom could never properly hunt in this kind of weather, and really did not want to risk it either. He sighed, shutting his eyes in an attempt to sleep away the hunger pains ringing in his belly.

His paws push into the wet soil, his tail tucking and skittering out of the way of Spiritfeather. "S-sorry!" What exactly was everyone on about now? He parted his jaws, trying to taste the air through all the moisture. If not a cat, it was easy to assume the major threats in the forest. Foxes, badgers, rats and of course the worst of the worst; dogs. His paws seemed to be made of stone as he hugged close to a tree in case a chase broke out. Poppywisp seemed to have Charmingpaw close by, he trusted the other warriors could handle themselves. "On your call, fight or flight." His voice hardly a whisper as he waited for Dragonstar's lead or for chaos to beat him to it.

He slides a little in the mud hopping off the log, catching his balance and pausing to make sure the others were crossing safely. "Monsters won't be a problem, then you can tell Pigeonflight how you're even faster on the thunderpath." Thankful the apprentices were keeping in good spirits, he could see the treeline breaking ahead where the border to fourtrees would be waiting for them. "There's a lot of tricks to sense things beyond sight, but I'll show you when we get there. Lets get this border marked, keep an ear out for trouble." The scent from the fox they chased off a few days ago was completely washed away, that was at least good news.

Before Dragonstar had a chance to respond to anyone, a great, deep cry suddenly bellowed from the woods ahead of them, almost roar-like. Dragonstar barely had a chance to scramble out of the way, leaving skid marks in the mud, before a moose came barreling through, nearly trampling the cats on patrol. The dark-furred leader's heart felt as if it was about to burst out of his chest, and he stared after the moose as it galloped away, still making that awful noise. No wonder he hadn't recognized the scent. He knew that moose lived in the forest, but it was very rare to run into them, especially out in weather like this. Looking closer at the moose-tracks that had been left behind, he suddenly noticed a dead dragonfly in its wake, no doubt crushed by the moose's giant hooves and smashed into the ground. The sight sent a shiver down his spine, but he ignored it and turned back to look at his patrol-mates. "Is everyone okay?" he panted, still trying to catch his breath.

He felt slightly sad when she mentioned getting Magpieflight to take her and her sister out, knowing that the black tom most likely wouldn't. "It couldn't hurt to ask him," he said. "I'm sure Foxcloud and I could always take you and Jackdawpaw out, too." Hearing Wrenfoot speak up ahead, he added to Starlingpaw, "Alright, you heard Wrenfoot. Keep a look out for trouble. Focus on one sense at a time, first hearing, then smell, then sight. We'll be at the border before long."

Brightsnow's cheeks grew warm. "Y-you think so?" she asked, unable to keep a smile from her face. "I'd be lucky to be one of their mentors. I've never had an apprentice before." Part of her wasn't sure she would be a good mentor, but Pigeonflight seemed to believe in her, and she'd be honored to have one of the pretty queen's kits as her very first apprentice. She tried to picture the soon-to-be-born kits...and realized that she could only picture tiny versions of Pigeonflight. After all, Brightsnow didn't know who the other parent was. She couldn't help but wonder about the identity of the father, but as curious as she was, she knew it probably wasn't right to ask. If Pigeonflight wanted others to know, she would tell them. Still, Pigeonflight was passionate about mothering, and Brightsnow wanted to keep talking to her, so she asked instead, "I was wondering...what do you think would have happened if Adderstep and Rainflower had lived? I mean, was there ever a point, before they passed, where you thought...you might want to keep the kits for yourself?"

"Yeah, like mud is much better," Wolffeather joked with a roll of her eyes. "Well, maybe I'll join you in helping the elders. I don't spend enough time with them anyway. But you know how prideful they are, especially Iceblood. Sometimes I think they'd rather be left alone than cared for!" She gave a sigh. "But I guess I can't blame them. I don't mind staying in on a rainy day, but if I had to stay in camp almost every day, I think I'd lose my mind." She knew that Ladybirdflutter felt the same way, hence why she continued to serve as a warrior despite her extensive injuries. Wolffeather couldn't help but admire the dappled she-cat, and noticed for the first time how pretty she was, despite her scarring.

Jackdawpaw felt satisfaction bubble up inside her as she watched Magpieflight and Herbpaw split off from the rest of them. She had nothing against Herbpaw...well, other than the fact that he seemed to revere Magpieflight like some StarClan-sent cat. But as long as he was her brother's apprentice, that meant wherever he was, her brother would be too. Sighing, she pricked her ears when she heard Foxcloud and Littlefoot discuss where to hunt and chimed in with "I like hunting in the hollows! Although, I wouldn't mind Snakerocks either. I'm not afraid of a couple of oversized worms!" She gave a little ferocious hiss.

The great moose sped through the patrol group, roaring out an awful sound that seemingly rang through the woods. in its sprint, it's hoof grazed Spindle's face, but he was otherwise unharmed. the tom was now breathing heavily with his fur standing on end due to the adrenaline. blood was beginning to bead on the graze. "I-I'm alright. are you okay spiritfeather?" he asked shakily, slowly regaining his composure.

He was in his own thought there only half listening to the conversations between the others, he didn't even smell the scent, or maybe he could've smelled it if he had not been so focused on his own thoughts. He growled as the large animal run past the patrol, he was not really on its way, but it sure did give him a slight startle of panic. He hated being startled, so the situation sent him into an inner rage.

She sighed as her ears perked over to Jackdawpaw as the other she-cat spoke about the snake rocks "Yeah, easy to say now, say that again when one of those oversized worms fangs are on your backside" she meowed to her with a flick of her tail.

He watched and looked at the cats of the patrol, his ears flicking in curiousness, confusion, and annoyance as he didn't get at all what everyone was talking about. He did smell the weird scent too, but he didn't take it seriously at all, he was even going to respond to his mentor that the smell is probably just farting skunk, but didn't have time to say anything when the large animal run past them almost trampled him under his feet "what the...where did that come from?" he yowled in surprise yet little panic. He has not seen anything like that before, he only heard stories about those who were seen them.
