[The Trickster~]

ＲＩＶＥＲＣＬＡＮ

It was a cold night, the stars twinkling harshly in the sky. It was a clear night as well, no clouds to be seen and the moon nicely illuminating the camp. Reedpaw sat quietly near the entrance to camp, gazing at the sky and resisting the urge to shiver. While Leaf-bare was over, the air still had a frosty bite. Reedpaw simply hadn’t been able to sleep, opting instead to sit out and gaze at the stars, even if it was rather cold.

After a moment, a voice broke the silence, the killer walking over on quiet paws. “Want to go out? It’s clear you can’t sleep and neither can I. We could at least go hunting to be somewhat productive.”

Reedpaw startled, looking up at the killer and nodding eagerly. “Oh, sure!” Happily, Reedpaw stood from her sitting position, following the other cat as they left camp and ventured out into the night.

The buzz and hum of insects was the only noise as the two cats wandered farther out, Reedpaw easily following the other cat's lead. They stopped, eventually, in front of one of the large bodies of water. The killer sat in silence, staring into the depths of the water.

“Reedpaw, you’re always so happy, so friendly to everyone. You listen so well, you’re…. Well, simply, you’re just so good. How do you do it?” The killer broke the silence after several moments, gaze lingering on the young cat next to them.

Reedpaw was thrown off, turning to stare off into the water. “Ah, well, I’m not really sure. I guess I just try my best really. That’s all you can do, isn’t it?” He turned, staring at the other cat.

“You should’ve tried harder.”

All it took was a single push, sending Reedpaw toppling over into the freezing water. Her long fur did nothing but hinder her, quickly getting soaked and dragging her down deeper. The water was so cold and it easily seeped into Reedpaw’s body. He had never felt so cold in his life. It only took a few minutes before Reedpaw quit struggling, her body going limp in the water.

The killer merely stood there, face emotionless as they stared down at Reedpaw, even as she stared up at them with desperate panicked eyes. All they had done was reach a paw out, pushing her back down into the depths of the water. Once it was all over, the killer hesitated a moment, before dragging Reedpaw in just enough that she wouldn’t drift away.

They stared at what they had just done, the limp body of Reedpaw resting on the shore before shaking their head. Perhaps once they would have felt guilt but now they merely felt nothing.

After washing their paws in the icy water and cleaning the area, they left, returning back to camp and falling into a deep dreamless sleep.
Your first cat is dead Riverclan, and an apprentice at that! What are you going to do?

Flamingheart
She-cat / Warrior / Tags; n/a

She knew the night was almost over, morning was just mere moments away. She could feel it in the way the air slightly warmed with the rising of the sun after a particularly cold night. No other warriors were awake yet. A peaceful harmony of steady breaths occasionally interrupted by some shifting or the quiet yawns of another cat, letting her know that it wouldn't be too long until the others were awaking as well.

She wasn't quite ready to get up yet, being the perfect temperature held her captive in her nest. It was a shame she was too aware of her surroundings now. The breathing of her den-mates, and buzzing of insects outside began to grate on her nerves. How she would have loved to be deaf in that moment, to be unaware of the morning and instead, sweetly sleeping in the false night. Too bad she still had her hearing and was therefore unwillingly dragged from the remaining clutches of sleep.

Giving an exaggerated stretch, she uncurled from her nest and rose to her paws. Being careful as not to disturb the others, she successfully exited the den. The chill from the night was still present, but it was slowly dissipating under the sun's rays. Choosing to move to a spot she knew got the early morning sun, she waited quietly for her clanmates to wake up.

They didn't like it. The slightly frosty air even though leaf-bare had fallen on Riverclan. The stiffness in their joins as they slept curled up there in their nest, face pressed down towards the moss and tail that carefully rested there, over their nose. The smells of the herbs sometimes really irritated the cat in sleep, so thus it made some sense to keep it under control. It really wasn't something they were fond over. Just the cat there, surrounded by herbs. Being a medicine cat had it's own things, after all. Being all in a quiet den all to themselves.

Thankfully they didn't have an apprentice yet for sure, because otherwise they would have another mouth to avoid from their slumber. Nectarwing loved to sleep when they could. It separated themselves from what was outside. After all, with nothing to see; or rather, be able to. There was nothing to interfere. Unless if a cat needed them, of course to say. Speaking of the mouths of cats...

As the cat slowly started to awaken from their slumber, it took a split moment to really process if they were actually awake or in some dark stiffness. Before starting up their thought process of the day. Right. At least at some point they'd have to have to chat with Cherrybright, given their status. The poor cat. The tinted brown-tan speckled fur taking a few to shiver as they slowly woke up, lifting their head up. Flick of the tail to take a moment to listen. Quiet. Perhaps it was too early to be waking up?

Well guess that was not in their intention anyway, they could just sit up on their paws. Now sitting straight up, tail uncurled off their nose and beside them, a slight bit away from their paws. They sniffed for a second to see if anything appeared close. Just the herbs, just riverclan scent. Rising from their spot and onto their paws they quickly turned and tried to observe their herb storage. `Perhaps I should go herb collecting today for something.` The whiteish cat thought to themselves, not that anyone had went to talk to the cat just yet. Paws moving and turning in a circle around to the exit of the medicine cat den to take a few paw steps around. Sniffing the air again, maybe making a click perhaps to see if any 'unnatural sounds' such as another cat being awake was possible. Maybe they could ask someone to come with them? They were blind after all, despite doing things like this by themselves sometimes.

Heronkit shivered as she woke up, blinking her eyes open. Stretching, she slowly got to her paws and flicked her ears. Exiting the nursery, she glanced around and saw Nectarwing. "Morning Nectarwing!" the kit meowed, padding over quickly, tail flicking excitedly. "May I help with anything?" the kit asked.
