Just awake, Lynxstar could feel her mate, Snowyfeather, curled up beside her is their soft, moss-filled nest. Sunlight filtered through the entrance of the den. Up in a second, Lynxstar accidentally woke Snowyfeather who yawned deeply and fell back asleep. Lynxstar stretched briefly and padded through the moss curtains covering Sky Pine from top to bottom. Brightstep, her faithful Deputy, was already organizing hunting patrols so she guessed it was late. "Everything going ok?" she asked.

Amberstem woke to a sharp jab in her belly. Her kits were due any minute now. At least the camp is getting more kits. she thought. After an avalanche wiped out part of the Clan, less warriors have been able to do duties, and with only two apprentices, the work is put on all of our shoulders. They may have to start looking in the Twolegplace for recruits into the Clan. She looked over at the other Queen, Littlecreek, who was eating some fresh kill. "Are the kits giving you pain like they are to me?" she asked humorously.

Fogpaw flounced around at Snowyfeather's paws. "What are we learning today?" She asked excitedly. We are meeting Ripplehawk and Spiderpaw at the Marmot Holes to practice our battle moves. "Oh Eagle Droppings. I'm terrible at fighting." she said, her happiness dampened. "Well I guess coyote defence isn't your thing." Snowyfeather added, knowing that would cheer her overexcited apprentice up. "Oh wow!" Fogpaw exclaimed, no longer downcast, "this is going to be awesome!" They walked through the trees and saw Spiderpaw. "Did you hear what we are doing today?" She asked, bouncing on the pads of her feet.

Swallowing the chunk of prey she had in her mouth, Littlecreek turned her head over towards Amberstream as she seemed to wince in pain. Maybe she's kitting? the she-cat wondered to herself. Shaking her head, she responded to the queen, shaking her head. "No, not really. But I'm not due to kit for at least another moon. Do you think you might be kitting? Should I go get Ripplehawk?" She asked. If she was kitting, she had no doubt that she'd probably want her mate there with her.

Spiderpaw was awake at the crack of dawn. He always loved getting up early to help Brightstep, Lynxstar, and Ripplehawk in whatever form he could. It kept him from getting bored, plus he hoped his enthusiasm for these sorts of things would get him to warrior status sooner. At least, that was his logic. He had just trotted up to Ripplehawk, smiling from ear to ear. "Ripplehawk! What are we doing today?! Any new attack moves?! Hunting moves?! He guessed rapidly. That was when Fogpaw ran up to him, Snowyfeather not far behind. The apprentice shook his head. "No! I was just asking Ripplehawk! What are we doing?! He asked, looking back and forth between Ripplehawk, Snowyfeather, and Fogpaw.

Just like Spiderpaw, Brightstep liked to get up early; not like he had much choice though. It was his duty as deputy to organize hunting patrols, and border patrols. He was just finishing up assigning the hunting patrol when Lynxstar came out of her den. "Good morning, Lnyxstar. Sleep well?" he asked his leader, finishing what he was doing and sending the cats out before turning to face her, stretching out his front legs. He nodded at her question. "Everything's fine. I just send some cats out on a border patrol and hunting patrol. And Snowyfeather and Ripplehawk are taking Fogpaw and Spiderpaw out for some training." he told the she-cat.

"No, don't worry, I'm think kitting is way more painful than a few kicks. Also, I think he is off training Spiderpaw." Amberstem mewed and she rose up to lick her chest. "Prey would be nice though!" at this, she raised her voice and almost instantly Lynxstar came in with a squirrel. "Thanks Lynxstar." she said. "Anyway, I wonder how kitting is going to be like without a Medicine Cat. Probably hard." Amberstem slowed, clearly having PTSD from the incident. She took a deep breath and resumed her cheery attitude. "What will you name your kits?"

"We.....Are.....Doing," Fogpaw was obviously making her words slow for dramatic effect, "COYOTE DEFENCE!!!!!!" Before he could answer she pounced on his back and, with sheathed claws of course, battered him on the head.

"Well I should probably hunt too. See you later for our search patrol." After talking to Brightstep she made her way to the Apprentice den. "Fogpaw! Time to get up!" Fogpaw was basically an adopted daughter, although she was to old to take care of. She was found after Lynxstar's search patrol stumbled on her alone, asleep, and buried in the snow. Snowyfeather warmed up to her right away even though Lynxstar was a little less trusting. It's no suprise she gave the little she-cat to Snowyfeather to train. "Ok Lynxstar!" she mewed. Then she yawned stretched, and met Snowyfeather in the clearing to go out. Backing out of the apprentice den, she heard Amberstem, an old friend, not so subtly ask for prey. She scooped up a squirrel from the pile and ran over. Dropping the prey at her feet, she left the two Queens to gossip. Lynxstar ran back to Brightstep and asked if he was ready to go out on the Search Patrol

Littlecreek nodded. "If you're sure," she replied. The other queen was right though. It probably would be a lot more painful. As the she-cat brought up the old medicine cat, tears blossomed in Littlecreek's eyes before quickly shaking them away. She didn't think any cat was over that incident yet. For many of them, it would possibly take moons to get over. They had been close with many of the cats involved. "Morning, Lynxstar," she greeted the leader before switching her focus back to Amberstem. "I haven't really thought about names yet... What about you?" She asked.

Spiderpaw's eyes widened with excitement, but before he could respond, he was tackled by Fogpaw. In response, he hooked his paw under hers, knocking her front legs over. "Sounds exciting! I can't wait!" He finally replied when he had the chance.

Brightstep nodded, laying down to take a quick rest as he waited for Lynxstar to finish things up. Once she was back, he stood up, shook the dirt off his pelt, and padded over to meet her. "I'm ready when you are," he replied.

"Well, I want to name one Ospreykit, after my littermate. That's all I really know." She was visibly forcing her positive attitude now. Suddenly she burst into tears." I miss them so much." Wiping away her tears she looked at Littlecreek."Sorry to distress you. I lost myself." Another sharp jab from her belly followed by three more made her curl up. "I think you might be right, they are coming."

"Nice move," she said somberly "your so good at fighting." Shaking her head she turned to Ripplehawk. "Lets start already!" Ripplehawk showed them how to surround and attack from different sides, then he became the coyote. When Spiderpaw got a good jab in, Fogpaw leapt onto his back and battered him with her back paws. He rolled and she barely missed getting squashed under his huge body. "I surrender!" He looked proudly at the two apprentices. Suddenly, Lynxstar burst through the trees. "Amberstem is having her kits."

"Ready" Suddenly Lynxstar heard calls from the Nursery. Poking her head in, she saw Amberstem being racked with pain. “Go get Ripplehawk!” she called to Brightstep.

Littlecreek nodded somberly. "Your kit will be honored to have the name of such an amazing warrior," she assured the queen. She shook her head. "And no need to apologize. We're all distressed. I'm sure it'll be quite a while until we're not. But hey, at least the clan has two litters of kits to look forward to," she mewed. Of course it was then that the other queen expressed that she was kitting. Ears alert and twitching, she stood up from where she laid and padded over to the queen. She sat down and started grooming the she-cat's face to try and calm the queen down. "Just try and breathe," she said. "I'm sure Ripplehawk will be here soon."

Spiderpaw puffed out his chest when Fogpaw complimented him before continuing on with the training. "All hail Spiderclan!" he proclaimed when Ripplehawk surrendered. It was then that Brightheart came running up to them, alert, his body radiating with urgency.

Nodding at Lynxstar's command, Brightstep raced out of camp and towards where the apprentices were training with their mentors. "Ripplehawk!" the tom called out as he approached, urgency in his voice. He slowed as he approached them. "Ripplehawk, Amberstem's kitting." he told the tom. Brightstep then turned to the apprentices. "Spiderpaw! Fogpaw! You two go find some moss and soak them in water and bring them back to the nursery," he told them, trying to remember everything from when his past mate was kitting before racing back to the nursery with Ripplehawk.

Cloudfern was laying in the clearing with her mate, Snowrunner, sharing a vole, their tails intertwined. When she heard a few yowls, she pricked her ears. "Sounds like Amberstem's kitting." she purred to her mate affectionately. "It'll be good for the clan. We can finally start rebuilding the clan, and the kits will serve as great distractions," she said.

Snowrunner brushed his cheek affectionately against his mate's. "Yeah. This'll be especially good for Amberstem and Lynxstar. Amberstem can focus on taking care of her kits while Lynxstar will have something to distract her from everything going on. Don't get me wrong, she's right to be worried, but even she can't keep up this front for much longer," he commented, taking a bite of the vole.

Another bout of pain wracked her. Suddedly, Ripplehawk was at her side. he licked her head until Snowyfeather nudged him away. Both apprentices came in, gave Amberstem water, and promptly left, obviously scared out of their wits. She reached up to take a lap of water but another bout of pain came on. Finally, with a big wave of pain, a wet bundle plopped into the nest. She curled up and licked the kitten untill the sack broke, then pushed the littl scrap of fur to her belly. The second time she was ready. As the bundle came out she scooped it up and licked it. The last felt different. When she broke the sack, the kit was limp. The group tried everything to revive the kit but in the end, they buried it. Amberstem, overcome with grief, decided to name the kits. "The little tom-kit is named Ospreykit, the she-kit will be named Bloomkit, for new beginnings," At this she almost lost it "and the stillborn she-kit will be named Fallkit, for the fall of this once great Clan." She finally broke down and was left with her mate, to fall asleep.

Fogpaw raced to a moss-laden tree near the group and grabbed as much as she could. She then raced to Mirror Stream and dipped it all in the stream. She could hear Spiderpaw doing the same thing but was too rushed with adrenaline to look at him. She raced to the camp and dropped the moss at her head. Quickly, she raced out. "I have never been more scared in my life,." She informed Spiderpaw, who had appeared at mher side.
