- Much like their namesake, Birdsong rises early.
Itβs a little earlier than they tend to wake - next to them, Leafstorm still sleeps away. Sheβs a warm presence, pressed against them, and Birdsong almost lets themself drift back asleep. It wouldnβt have been hard - sleep still clings to her eyes and in the corners of her mind, and the warmth threatens to drag her back under.
But she forces herself awake.
Birdsong yawns, blinking back the sleepiness that clings to her, and slowly stands, careful not to disrupt her sister. She slowly stretches, flicks out her paw when she finishes to clean her face, and pads out of the den.
She glances around, gaze settling on the new, makeshift den in the corner of camp. Birdsong feels bad for the displaced cats - they donβt know how they couldnβt - but some quiet part in their brain wants them to leave soon, more for their own sake. They donβt know how they would handle being in their position, and they send a quiet thank you to StarClan that they arenβt.
Birdsongβs gaze flitters around again and she finally lands on Oakpool. Her tail twitches and something in Birdsongβs chest clenches and settles and she decides to talk to her. She peers over at the fresh-kill pile and quickly trots over to it - it could stand to have more prey, what with the six extra mouths - then carefully picks up a small bird and a mouse. Their tail twitches once more and they bound over to the rock that Oakpool sits on, watching over the clan.
Carefully, Birdsong sets the prey down at their paws and then calls up with a small smile; βHey. You want some food?β

- Itβs faint and fleeting - more of a half-awake experience than anything else.
Leafstorm drifts in and out of sleep, warm and cozy with her tail over her nose and back to her sisterβs. Sheβs never been the heaviest sleeper, but sheβs always been able to fall back asleep just as easily - so in Leafstormβs own professional opinion, it works out in her favor. She gets to listen to the warriorsβ den slowly come to life, and she can just as easily fall back asleep until the day finally has to start.
She feels Birdsongβs warmth disappear, and a small part of her mourns the comfort. She hears her sisterβs pawsteps fade as they exit the den and peeks an eye out, staring at the entrance covered in dappled moonlight. Closing her eye, Leafstorm settles back into her nest to finish resting before someone (probably Oakpool, Birdsong, or Ivyclaw) inevitably drags her by the ear into the waking world - likely for some sort of patrol.

- Blazingpaw isn't sure what time he woke up, or how long he had been asleep for. He thinks he got a brief nap - enough that Fennelglow won't stare him down and tell him he needs to go get "proper rest," at least. But itβs not his fault - honest!! (β¦well, okay, maybe a little.)
There's been something small nagging Blazingpaw recently. It's absolutely nothing he's going to tell Fennelglow about because he knows he's being ridiculous, so it stays in the deepest corner of his mind, tucked away and a part of him hoping that he forgets all about his worries and issues. He doesn't fault EmberClan (or, more specifically, Kindlepaw) for his sudden bout of-
Oh, are they almost out of marigold?
He blinks back his thoughts, circling around in his head of a constant mantra of not good enough not worthy theyβll see it soon starclan did not good enough not worthy and narrows his eyes, scanning the divots and cracks in the rocks where Fennelglow has shown him where to store herbs and other various things they need to help the clan. Marigold, poppy, they could probably use some more moss soon...
(he wonders, again, for the tenth time since he woke up why he hadn't had the same dream that his mentor and the other medicine cat apprentice had had. was he not worthy? was he not meant to be a medicine cat? was-)
His ears perk and swivel to the entrance of the den. His head shifts, eyes still trained on the crack in front of him - did they need to get more cobwebs or can he just not see very well right now? - and then finally turns his full attention to Kindlepaw.
"Close enough," Blazingpaw says with a small smile. He dips his head in a quiet hello, then sits down, draping his tail over his paws. "What brings you in? I can grab Fennelglow if you need her."

- Ravensight will never, ever voice this - especially not to the apprentices - but he wonders, sometimes, if StarClan had abandoned EmberClan the night before the attacks. For the last three moons, every time he's closed his eyes, every time he finds a moment of silence, he can hear the screams. He hears Robinstar's final words, in one ear and out the other at the time, as he had frantically looked for his kits, who had just become apprentices the sunrise prior. He finally pinpoints Hollypaw - and he screams in despair as he watches her crumble underneath a cat nearly triple her size. Ivypaw was never far behind. His sweet, precious Hollypaw and Ivypaw, struck to the ground next to each other. He remembers screaming for Ashpaw, voice barely heard above the commotion as he manages to strike an enemy back.
Every time he closes his eyes, he sees Ivypaw and Hollypaw lying on the forest floor. He sees Ashpaw a few tail-lengths away from his sisters, eyes wide in terror, and Ravensight can do nothing but scream as his vision becomes blurred by an enemy. (every time, ravensight hears his son screaming for him and watches as he collapses tail-lengths away from his sisters. every single time, ravensight wishes he could've given his kits the burial they deserved.)
His thoughts, more often than not, are clouded by his kits and Willowheart. If StarClan is still here, are they watching over him? Are they finally together again, with his kits hating him for never doing enough to save them?
Ravensight takes a shuttered breath and opens his eyes, forcing himself to blink back tears. He glances around the den - he doesn't think it's something he will ever get used to; how the clan he once loved with his entire being became nothing more than a wandering band who still clung to their old home's name. The scents that cling to the air are nothing like the forest where he grew up; where his clan had lost everything.
His gaze lingers a little longer over the cat who had switched sides; who had thrown away everything they once lived for to join them. It has been three moons, and Ravensight does not think he will ever ask them what prompted them to leave everything behind for the remains of a clan they tried to destroy.
He takes another sweep of the den, accepting that he's gone another night without sleep. Near where Birchpaw rests is an empty nest - he assumes that Kindlepaw has gotten up and left already. Across the den, Ravensight spots Cinderpaw, and he has to bite down on the urge to go and comfort the young tom. He knows that Cinderpaw wouldn't appreciate it. He finally spots Sootpatch- no, Sootstar. Sootstar. He doesn't know why he keeps forgetting.
Ravensight rests his head back down onto his paws, softly exhaling as he closes his eyes. Rest, at this point, is useless, but fretting over everyone's safety won't help either.
