Field Guide to Anomalous Species, Vol. 1, Squibbles: Origins, Traits and Theories


While the precise origins of the Squibble remain unknown, the leading explanation follows the mutagenic activation hypothesis. Their first recorded appearance coincided with the detection of unusual organic macromolecules of unknown origin in the upper atmosphere. These polymers are believed to have acted as mutagens or horizontal gene transfer agents, transforming existing terrestrial genomes

into novel morphologies, resulting in the creatures now classified as Squibbles.

The creatures received their name from the word squabble, a reference to their playful vocalizations and mock disputes. Early observers reported groups of Squibbles engaged in constant chattering, wing-flicking, and light physical jostling—behaviors interpreted as fundamentally social rather than aggressive. Despite their dragon-esque appearance, Squibbles demonstrate a strong inclination toward cooperation and curiosity, both with one another and with human onlookers.

Preliminary ecological assessments suggest Squibbles occupy a niche similar to mid-sized omnivorous scavengers. They have shown no signs of predation on humans or large livestock, instead favoring carrion, small vertebrates, and abundant plant matter. Current models predict minimal ecological disruption, with the possibility of beneficial symbiotic interactions through carrion removal and soil turnover.

Rules

CS and Squibbles rules must be followed in any Squibbles spaces.

You must follow any customs and trading rules as posted on the related threads.
To participate in any raffles or questing mechanics, you must have an up-to-date co-op archive post.

This is particularly important for entering in raffles with entry limits, such as "non-owner only" raffles. You are responsible for tracking your own rewards from questing or events within your co-op.
Do not claim, edit or use any Squibbles assets as your own. Do not make your own Squibbles.

This includes but is not limited to tracing, editing or coloring existing assets, or otherwise editing existing Squibbles. Fanart and/or independently drawn inspo for customs do not count.
You may display your Squibbles offsite, but credit appropriately. Link back to this main thread. If you are posting to toyhou.se, link back to the official Squibbles TH world.

No guilt-tripping, begging, or spamming. Be respectful.
