Sumac Towers is a UMA/mini-life sim game where you adopt a cute
animal resident, decorate their apartment, participate in games & competitions,
and become part of a community!

You can buy or sell with the in-game shop, win awards and prizes, do passive jobs
to earn in-game currency, trade with other players, and more!

The game is still new and expanding, so there are many more features planned for the future!

How do I join?
Post in the player archive and one of our staff members will DM you with your ST player ID.
Alternatively, you can join the Discord server and post there first.
That’s all you need to get started!

How do I play?
Whenever you want to do things like decorate, perform a job, or buy from the shop,
you need to post a form in our forms thread.
Make sure you read through the gameplay tutorial and rules first though!

Some of these rules may only be relevant to the Discord server or the CS threads. They're posted in both places for simplicity.


Please make sure you read all the rules before joining!

What Happens When I Get Banned?
Your inventory, including Residents and Apartments, are held for 14 days. You may appeal your ban during this time. After this point, your inventory will be recycled back into the community or deleted, as appropriate.
You can appeal a ban via help ticket.

All ChickenSmoothie Rules Apply
This applies to all spaces associated with Sumac Towers, including the Discord server.
You will also be reported to CS staff if you break CS rules, again including the Discord server.

Community Rules

#1 -- Keep Things Civil
Please avoid conversations or actions that would prompt debates or heated discussions as this isn't the place for those sorts of conversations. If you see someone saying something inflammatory, don't engage.

#2 -- No Mini-Modding
If someone is breaking a rule or you have a suspicion they might be, report them to our staff or the CS staff as appropriate. In the Discord, you can ping a moderator by typing @Staff in the chat.

#3 -- Respect Mods & Staff
If you have an issue with staff behaviour, you can send in a help ticket, or report them to the CS staff if they're breaking CS rules. Please don't argue with staff in public channels, even if you disagree with their decisions. If you need help or one of the staff members has to perform game mechanics for you, please be respectful of them.

#4 -- Stay Positive!
Please don't vaguepost about other users or about outcomes which you were disappointed by, and please try not to be overtly or repeatedly negative. It's okay to be disappointed if you didn't win something, but it can upset other users and bring the mood down if you post about it a lot. We aim to make sure mechanics are fair and everyone gets a chance to win prizes and participate fully, but if you think something isn't working, you can always post to the suggestions channel in the Discord.

Account Rules

#5 -- Minimum Account Age
You must have been on CS for at least 2 months before joining Sumac Towers. This is to help prevent multi-accounting or other cheating methods, as well as reducing the risk of bad behaviour. As this rule was accidentally left off the list earlier, any existing users who were not checked for this rule as of 10/08/25 are considered valid players and do not need to worry about being removed.

#6 -- One Account Only
You cannot multi-account. As multi-accounting is not allowed on CS either, we will report you to CS staff if we suspect you of doing it. You must use your own account to play Sumac Towers, and it must be your only account.

#7 -- CS Ban = ST Ban
While there are plans to become independant as a game in the future, ST is currently hosted and reliant on ChickenSmoothie. As such, if you're banned from CS, you will be banned from ST, which includes being removed from the Discord server. We trust that the CS mods make fair decisions, but if you do have any issues, you can access the help ticket independent of CS or Discord.

Gameplay Rules

#8 -- No Cheating
You must be honest about the state of your account and archive at all times and you must track all of the necessary information (see archive thread for more info). You can't add money or items, change the colour of your furniture, give yourself awards or milestones, etc. Staff keep an archive of all in-game actions that can be cross-checked, and anyone attempting to manipulate their inventory will be banned.

#9 -- Archive Maintanence
As well as being truthful about your archive, you must also keep it up to date. Any changes that are made (such as spending money, recolouring items, etc.) should be made ideally within 72 hours. You should not perform more actions until you've added the results of previous actions. Basically, if you've not updated your archive to show that you spent 30sc and have a new chair, you shouldn't be buying anything else.

#10 -- Trade Fairly
You cannot lie or mislead others about what items you have, or their value, release date, purpose, etc. You must fulfil your end of trades once agreed. Attempts at circumventing specific trade restrictions will result in a ban; for example, if you are not currently allowed to trade a Sumac Towers Resident for Wermz, you are also not allowed to 'gift' someone your Residents and have them 'gift' you their Wermz.

#11 -- Read Everything!
While you won't be banned for making a mistake or missing something, you may be warned if it happens multiple times; Sumac Towers is quite complicated, so we expect there to be occasional errors, but it puts a lot of strain on staff to try and deal with things like players trying to perform game functions that they're not able to do. You can always ask questions if you're not sure, but repeatedly or intentionally ignoring explanations of how to play will result in a ban.

#12 -- Don't Edit Graphics
You are not allowed to edit any of the official graphics for any reason, even if it seems minor. This is the same as ChickenSmoothie's rules regarding editing pets; editing can cause confusion and potentially trick other players into thinking you have items you don't, or into thinking they've missed out on something.

Temporary Restrictions

Trade Locks
You currently cannot trade Residents or Apartments with other players. This will be available soon.
You currently cannot trade anything in Sumac Towers for anything outside of Sumac Towers, including art, digital or irl currency, or other UMA content. This will be available soon.

Resident Limit
You currently cannot own more than 2 Residents. This includes custom Residents, such as staff customs. This restriction will be lifted in the future, but not for a while.

Art & Character Rules

Ownership of Graphics
All Sumac Towers graphics belong to betulacarelica and appropriate credit should be given if uploading off-site. You should always link back to the main thread if adding ST graphics to your posts/signatures. If you upload off-site, you can link to the CS thread or the website.

Residents & Apartments
You can upload your Resident and Apartment graphics anywhere with appropriate credit. While you own the Resident and their associated Apartment, they are considered your character, so you can treat them like any other OC. They (and their apartments) do not have to remain completely faithful to the in-game art if you want to draw them, as long as you don't edit the in-game art.
All off-site content relating to any characters originating from ST must be compliant with CS rules.
If you upload them to Toyhou.se, you can request to be added to the Sumac Towers world.

Moderators (‘Neighbourhood Watch’)
Moderators must keep an eye on the Discord and the CS threads to make sure no one is breaking the rules. Pretty straightforward! They’ll also be responsible for checking new user registrations against CS profiles and contacting them if there are any issues. Moderators will have access to the help tickets on Google Forms and the users archive in Google Sheets, so they must be able to view & edit these.

Artists (‘Designers’)
Artists must be able to create new residents & apartments (at minimum just toggling, arranging, & recolouring items in a PSD file, but with residents especially there's more room to customise!); they also need to handle redecorating requests passed on by users. These are formally updated at the end of each week, so Artists need to be able to make these updates regularly, but don’t need to try and get them done as soon as they come in. Artists can also design new items, resident species, etc., but this isn’t a requirement. Artists MUST be able to open & edit the PSD files, and save them in transparent PNG format.

Archivists (‘Property Managers’)
Archivists need to respond to update requests from users and log them in the archive channel in the Discord, as well as pass them on to other staff members such as Artists when necessary. This can potentially be a very busy job or a very quiet job, depending on how popular the game ends up being, but it’s also going to be something I focus on a lot, so I only need 1 more to help for now.

Current Resident Raffle

Raffle Info
Non-owners are normally entered three times when they join a raffle, as opposed to once for players who already have at least one Resident. Since this is the first raffle, everyone will just be entered once.

When you win, you can decide the name of your Resident. They have no set gender or orientation, just an appearance, species, and stats, so you can give them whatever characteristics you like. You can add their name and a status of your choice to their Apartment image. These will be added as soon as possible.
After that, you can change both of these things whenever you like, but they’ll update with decoration like normal, so you can only do it once per week before Saturday. If your name/status is too long, it may overlap some of the apartment. The status can be a verb or an emotion, such as vibing, working, happy, bored, or chill.

Once you have your resident, you can start doing decorating, jobs, and workshops. Before you have one, you can still buy, sell, and trade with other players or the in-game store.
