what is a pompeii cat ?
these creatures were born deep inside
the crust of the earth, molten and
devoid of purpose. when they emerged,
their bodies changed to reflect the new
environments around them, resulting in
creatures of various shapes and sizes,
each with a deep connection to the
specific element that their volcanic
originator bestowed upon them. their
element keeps them connected to each
other, as different as they may look
on the outside.

so far, the discovered species are the vesuvian and kilimanjaran variants. however, it is strongly suspected that more are out there...

rules & FAQ

general rules

• All CS rules apply.
  
• Do not be rude or hateful, attempt to steal designs or pompeii cats from others, or harass any users or staff within the group. Do not guilt trip other users when they obtain a pompeii cat that you wanted.
  - Homophobic, transphobic, racist, or other highly hateful/inappropriate comments may be grounds for an immediate, unappealable ban from participation in the species.
  
• Do not edit, draw over, color adjust, or otherwise change any bases, items, existing pompeii cats, or any other assets of the group. Do not claim official pompeii cat art to be your own or post it on CS or other websites without a link back to the main page.
  
• To participate in the group in any aspect, your CS account must be at least 2 months old.
  
• All group members must have a post on the co-op archive that is kept updated with the information in the provided form. Users who enter a raffle without an updated archive will be re-rolled for giveaways within the discord.
  
• Users may not apply items to their pompeii cats on their own, it must be done by a staff member. You may draw your pompeii cats in any items you wish, official item or otherwise, but do not create dressups on the official base, especially as a mockup for what you want it to look like when applied.

trading & transfer

• Pompeii cats may not be traded OR gifted between users. This will not change in the future.
  
• There is currently a limit of 2 pompeii cats per user. Users caught multi-accounting to try to get around this limit will be banned and all pompeii cats revoked, returning them to the group for redistribution.
  - The limit will be raised when new species are unlocked ! Times and dates of unlocking will be posted on the main page so that it is clear what posts are prior to and following these updates, to allow users to enter for new pompeii cats under the updated limit.
  
• The only way for a pompeii cat to change ownership is through donation to the shelter. The shelter system will allow pompeii cats to be re-distributed to other group members. Members may not host giveaways for their own pompeii cats.
  - You may not enter a new raffle/giveaway with your account at the limit. You must donate to the shelter to free space BEFORE trying out for a new pompeii cat, or your entry will be null.
  
• Pompeii cats will never be distributed without being shown first, you will always know what design you are entering for. Please do not enter for designs you do not connect with.
  
• Pompeii cat designs may not be transferred to other species without explicit permission from the artist. If the artist cannot be contacted, it cannot be transferred. Conversely, if you want a design transferred in as a custom pompeii cat, you must include permission from the designer in your custom request post.
  - Artists are allowed to refuse permission to transfer for any or no reason. They do not have to provide a reason for saying yes or no. Harassment resulting from a “no” OR transferring despite receiving a “no”/getting no answer will result in a warning.
  - Pompeii cats may not be voluntarily removed from the species. This would only happen in the event of a user being banned from the species for reasons other than multi-accounting.

customs

• Custom pompeii cats will NOT COUNT toward the 2-per-user limit. There is no limit on how many customs a user may receive in total, but it may be no more than one within a span of 30 days.
  - To assist with ensuring users know which count and which do not, there will be delineating markers on all custom/recolor pompeii cats distinguishing them as separate from the total. These markers will be removed if they are rehomed via the shelter.
  
• Customs will always be free. There is no item or currency required, you must just post with the artist’s individual form when they are open to make customs. Each user may only have one custom in progress at a time, and must wait 1 month after receiving their custom to enter for another.
  
• Artists may refuse any order, for any reason. We will never force artists to work on an idea they are uncomfortable with or feel they cannot complete.
  
• Artists have a maximum of two months to complete an order before a request to cancel the custom order may be submitted. Please contact the owner or a moderator if the artist is unable to be contacted.
  
• Pompeii cats may be ordered on pre-existing lines if the artist volunteers a line to be re-used. This is called a “recolor” - a re-coloring of the lineart, not a re-coloring of an existing pompeii cat. Please check the reusable lineart thread to find out what lines are usable !
  
• No customs may ever be created based on copyrighted content. Moodboards with copyright images in the inspiration must contain a majority of images that are not of copyright characters or item/prop designs.
  
• There is a 0% tolerance policy for AI-generated images in moodboards/inspiration imagery for customs. Please consult our team and/or other members of the group if you are unsure whether your images are AI-generated.

FAQ !

When inputting IDs for a raffle, can I just write “all” ?

• Yes ! You may never win more than one per raffle, but you may enter for all if you connect with all of them. This will not affect your chances of winning.
  
  Does my personal lore have to line up with existing pompeii cat lore ?
• No ! This is not a requirement, you may write them into any kind of world that you want.
  
  Will MYOs be available ?
• No, these will never be available.
  
  When will staff positions open ? / Are you looking for new staff ? / What are you looking for for staff members ?
• Staff openings will be announced on the thread and pinged for in the discord. We will not be actively looking for staff when they are not open. Staff will be chosen based on a group discussion and vote from the entire staff group.
  
  Are items able to be re-used ? / Will items specifically made for one base be edited to fit another base ?
• No, items are all single-use. No, items that do not have a variant for different species will not be edited to fit species they were not made for.
  
  May I design unofficial pompeii cat OCs for myself ? / for others ?
• You may design your own unofficial OCs, but they may NOT be based on existing customs, litters, or re-usable lines, and must be entirely your own concept. You may NOT design them for other members, especially for any form of payment.
  
  Can I post a “bribe” to encourage artists to take my custom order ?
• No, we do not allow customs to be advertised for. Pompeii cats will always be free, and any user caught trying to “bribe” an artist to guarantee their slot choice will receive a 3-month customs ban. A repeat offense will result in a 6-month ban, followed by a permanent customs ban at the third offense.

• you may only win one pompeii cat per raffle !

• when a custom is donated, it will lose the immunity from the cap and the custom marker will be removed.
• you may not re-adopt a pompeii cat after you have donated it.

strikes & bans: process and appeals

• Pompeii Cats has a three-strike ban system for when rules are repeatedly/consistently broken.
  - Official warnings will be clearly labeled as “official warnings” when handed out by a staff member. Any other rule reminders that may have been sent will not be counted towards a strike unless multiple reminders have been sent for the same behavior in a very short time.
  - Strikes are given out after two official warnings are given.
  - Upon the first strike, behavior is expected to change but there is no immediate consequence.
  - The second strike will result in a temporary feature ban related to whatever rule is being broken/circumvented. This feature ban will last two months and disallows any interaction by a user with the feature (such as the discord, entering raffles, etc). Detailed instructions for what feature is being blocked will be provided along with a date that this feature ban is lifted.
  - The third strike will activate an appealable restriction from participation in the species.
  
• When a user receives an appealable restriction, they keep all Pompeii Cats and items they have collected. No IDs or assets will be revoked.
  -The restriction may be appealed via messaging the owner or opening a ticket in the discord with an appeal that demonstrates understanding of what the problem behavior was and a promise to discontinue it.
  - It will be up to staff whether the restriction will be lifted.
  - If the appeal is granted and the restriction is lifted, but there are subsequent warnings/strikes against the same user, the consequences may be elevated to a ban.
  - The elevating steps may be skipped and proceed directly to a ban depending on the severity of the rule-breaking, if users are participating in hate speech, discrimination, or other harassment, or if users are caught in the act of multi-accounting in order to gain more Pompeii Cats. This will be judged by all staff on a case-by-case basis.
  
• Banned users may not interact with the species in any way. They may not attempt to obtain more Pompeii Cats or items.
  - Banned users will keep their Pompeii Cats UNLESS the ban is for suspected multi-accounting. When kept, a banned user’s Pompeii Cats will be voided from the masterlist and may not be used to interact in the species going forward. They will lose their IDs, but they may be restored via donating back to the shelter to be given back to the community.
  - In the case of suspected multi-accounting, all Pompeii Cats will be revoked from each involved account and redistributed to the community via the shelter. This does not include Pompeii Cats that were transfers of pre-existing designs/OCs onto Pompeii Cat lines, but may include unique customs obtained unfairly via multi-accounting.
  - If a banned user attempts to return to the species with a new account, the new account will also receive an immediate permanent ban.
  
• Banned users will not be publicly listed. Users are not allowed to ask banned users OR staff about reasons why they were banned from the species. This information is private and will not be distributed.

• these were the first discovered members
  of the species, inspiring the name "pompeii cats" !
  some say it was settled on a little too quickly. to be fair,
  we didn't know we'd keep finding MORE magical
  volcano cats.

meet the kilimanjaran ice-cheetah !

• kilimanjarans are from tanzania !
• their connection matches their disposition, but
  is surprising for a volcanic creature - the element of ice !
• these were initially categorized as a different animal
  entirely from vesuvians. however, upon attempting to study
  where they had come from, we realized that they too
  emerged from within the volcano, originating...
  somewhere below ?
