【 What is a RATTEN, exactly... ? 】

A Ratten ("rat-ten" [/ræt/; /tɛn/]) is a mutated form of what we know as a common rat (genus: Rattus). They derived from their much smaller, less-draconic cousins many years ago, hidden away from our gaze until quite recently. The first Ratten had been discovered bundled carelessly in the warm towels of a elderly woman who had yet to place her laundry away. We're still trying to figure out their fascination with towels. And, over time, more and more began to show up; rooting through unattended garbage, tearing clean towels off bathroom racks, scurrying in the woodwork of walls.

As much of an annoyance as a Ratten can be, their devious tricks and mayhem are less than harmless. Sure, you may find your car keys wedged behind your couch or those very important work documents chewed up, but a Ratten can really do no physical harm. Afterall, these lil guys are quite intelligent. Why bite the hand of something that can benefit you? Truthfully, only those a Ratten deems worthy of its pranks will receive such behavior... and even bare witness to their glory.

Rattens are a lot more than they lead on to be... And, to date, there's not much noted on them!
What is known about these spunky creatures is: bond with one and you will have a partner for life.

【 GENERAL RULES 】

【 G1 】 All general CS rules apply. These rules will be enforced by Rattens staff. Any site rules broken will be addressed accordingly and sent to the appropriate CS staff. Please make sure to read over the CS rules regarding Discord before joining ours! Our Discord may also have rules specific to it once you join.

【 G2 】 Be respectful and courteous to fellow community members & to the Rattens staff. We do not tolerate any rudeness or harassment towards ANY Rattens member. Everyone is welcome here. Which means: discriminatory behavior is absolutely NOT welcome here, whether in the Discord or on our threads. If it is found a user is acting this way towards another community member, a permanent ban from Rattens will be issued immediately and a report will be made to CS staff.

【 G3 】 Please do NOT mini-mod. While we appreciate the support, there can be situations where the wrong answer is given by a community member when a situation should be addressed by the staff. If you are eager to assist, keep an eye out for moderator applications! We will announce them opening both on the main thread and in our Discord server.

【 SPECIES RULES 】

【 S1 】 The official Ratten lines may not be edited or used by users that are NOT on the staff team. You may not attempt to edit, color in, trace, remove the Rattens signature, or alter official lines in any way without explicit permission by the owners (Synerie or Koikee). Users may only scale images (i.e: making the image bigger or smaller). Additionally, you may not claim the Ratten lines or any designs as yours unless you made it.

【 S2 】 Refrain from guilting other users for receiving or winning Rattens, whether it is through raffles, trades, or customs. Making comments such as, "ugh i didn't win again" or ”man, i missed another giveaway". Refrain from doing so even if you include tone indicators such as “/j” or “/lh”, as it can still be off-putting to other users. Guilt-tripping can be discouraging to others within our server and/or become repetitive. Additionally, please avoid from begging Staff or other users for Rattens and/or customs. Staff will address any of this behavior as necessary with the proper repercussions.

【 S3 】 Rattens are now tradeable. Please take a look at our trade thread for further information!

【 S4 】 Do not join Rattens for the sake of foddering for other species. Do not join giveaways to fodder designs to trade for others. This can be very discouraging to the artists that spend time making adopts for the community. If you are found to be foddering designs, a trading ban will be placed on your account. Attempting to trade off designs while under a trade ban may risk your account from being banned completely.

【 RATTEN BANS (TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT) 】

Users that are banned from Rattens may risk losing their Rattens depending on the severity of why you were banned. Rattens that have been revoked from banned users will no longer be able to use them in any way, such as continuing to use them as your own character, making art of them, attempting to trade them off, and so on.

Rattens that have been revoked will either be raffled off to Staff or the community, or given out as freebies to non-owners and will not be returned to you in the event you, the user, are able to appeal your ban.

Additionally, banned users may not interact with the community, whether it's temporary or permanent. For users that have been temporarily banned, this rule will be lifted once your ban is up. The length of the temporary ban will vary based on the severity of the situation and what the moderation team & owners decide upon. Users that have been temporarily banned that fail to comply with this rule may run you the risk of being permanently banned.

06/01/2025: the species has been introduced to CS.
06/14/2025: the species rules (general/species) were updated.
06/15/2025: the species has officially opened.
06/26/2025: over 70 Rattens made: trading has become available.

Meaning, two or more designs are on the base with no line edits and two or more designs are on the with line edits. Make as many as you like to provide as examples.

- We ask you do not use repeating designs (the same design repeated with no/minimal changes).


- You can also do both options! (submitting designs from other UMAs AND creating new ones on the provided base); do what makes you feel the best about your application!
