for a while now i've had a species in mind that is based on the seasons and would reflect them as time goes on. so there would be spring adopts, summer adopts, autumn adopts, and winter adopts that are their own subspecies. they're intended to be loosely based of of a particular set of animals per season, and i think it'd be a fun idea to have potential owners guess what these horses do, and how hey shift the world they live in. and of course, with the revival of wmes, horsy1050 continues to inspire me after all these years and i'm finally ready to actually present something!

the species is intended to be semi-open/closed. basically, within official topics and events, you must adhere to the rules and lore but outside of them, you're free to do what you want. including making your own seasonal horses, or (if given permission by the artist) changing the designs and breeding them yourself, regardless or not if they follow the genetic rules i've set for them.
for example, if there's an event running that utilizes your owned horses, they must be official (created by me or an official artist, if any) and any 'un-lore-friendly' changes/backstory you've made must be reversed for the sake of the event. unofficial breedings, such as a 'fake' adopt and a 'real' one together, can be allowed if the owners have given explicit permission. However, the offspring will cease to exist in any official documentation/topics and not count towards any breeding rules i've set. it's like a party in the back and business in the front type thing, ya know?

right now, i have the spring ponies in progress, though i'll probably shift them to be more oriented to cobs. Even if there's no interest in this as a species, i'll probably just create and sell designs at random. really i just want to create art that allows me to be creative while currently being in a tough spot, and i never really lost my love for the cs community (both the site and closed species <3)

each set of seasonal horses will have their own pheno/genotypical requirements and limits. i want to leave it mostly to breeding for the rules to be figured out, but to stir a bit more interest i'll reveal some of the spring ponies' traits:
- always bay-based
- only subspecies to have pinto
- goats




subspecies won't crossbreed, so spring ponies won't want to produce offspring with a summer horse. of course, i do plan on having some sort of event that changes that, but i'm not sure yet. and if you happen to own multiple subspecies i won't mind if you breed them on your own time, as long as the offspring is clearly marked as 'fake' in some way.
each subspecies will start with original nature spirits - where the initial traits for the subspecies come from. they will be left a bit ambiguous, and their true natures will come out through creating, as well as additional traits.
adopts will be made under two conditions:
an original spirit works their magic and creates a new force of nature, and sends forth a burst of this new energy across the world. for example:
- Currently Not Properly Named Original Spring Spirit decides there needs to be more flora around the world, so she creates a set of floral spring ponies to populate the world and create other types of blooms.
- another Spring Spirit thinks the world could use some ferocity and calls forth his inner lion, creating spirits that desire a bit of destruction, which also further the cycles of rebirth.
or
an original spirit will go through some sort of inner turmoil or peace and something is created from it.

To avoid inbreeding (though honestly i don't think it'd matter much, they're more spiritual and sexless anyway) spirits can also appear somewhat randomly, but they'll still have some traits of the originals. Some Original Spirits will also choose to keep their abilities limited to certain regions, leaving it up to the owners to mix their genes.
Original Spirits will technically be owned by me only, though they will also be intended as the mascots for their respective seasons. there will be an option to try and impress an Original Spirit and create offspring from them, as well as an option for some spirits to reproduce without a mate.
otherwise, 'regular' breedings can still happen. i use quotes because gender does not matter either, even if the horse seems to be gendered as they're sexless.
official breedings must be done by an official artist with the rules followed, of course, and will cost some form of pets and/or c$. actual adopts will be kept free though some event and special traits may have to be paid for (honestly, it fully depends on how much effort goes into the design)



i figured there could also be a seasonal writing contest for lore regarding the fantasy world and it's seasons, and contests for the Original Spirit's personalities, other writing and art based events of course. Prizes would be discussed with the community, but I figured pets, c$, and various species benefits would suffice.

i'm iffy on customs, so personally i think full customs would likely be extremely rare if not impossible. full customs would probably be the only portion of the species that would be purchasable with USD. i was curious about collaborative customs, where you and an artist work on a custom together but it'd only be a semi-custom. though semi-customs in general may not be that rare, and possibly offered through certain adopts/events.

please let me know if this makes no sense, and any thoughts and questions you may have!
i'll try to update the thread as the art moves along. i'm also open to any ideas and discussions ^^

(and before anyone mentions it, yes these subspecies can breed together. and yes i'm also aware subspecies implies there's a main species ;)

Spring

Flowers blossom, grass sprouts, and spring ponies roam. Climbing the middle and lower cliff sides are robust and springy horses adorned with impressive displays of horned, patchy coats. Rocks shift under their cloven hooves, allowing for various plants to take root. These earthen creators manipulate their surroundings to prepare the land for rebirth. Since spring ponies work little and play often, when energized their hooves will heat up and warm the lower mountain sides to melt snow. Beyond growing spring greens and melting snow, however, they also grow a multitude of crimson gardens. It is currently unknown what these gardens do. Who knows what else these ponies, or any of the other inhabitants are capable of?

Original spirits are the first ones to roam this mysterious planet. They were once constantly shifting forms of energy, formed from the winds and storms of these ever chaotic realms. Having took their own forms, they help render the lands they roam by shaping them with their innate spirituality. They bring delicate orders. Original spirits know exactly how to communicate with the winds and stir up whatever creations they desire. These creations however, can only create more niche systems.

Each season will have 1-3 original spirits to release new traits and abilities. They can be bred with, and they can also influence your herds in other ways. Follow their natural orders, and they will send healing breezes and plentiful offspring. Defy them, and they will outlaw you (lore friendly way of explaining fake/myo ).

As the seasons roll on, the original spirits’ physical forms dissipate temporarily. They take on their more energetic forms and have long breaks residing in their realms, watching as their other seasoned kind renders the land. Their creations, however, are usually changed with the seasons (no i’m not drawing the art for that lol) and some of them remain in their physical forms. Once winter rolls around, there is a chance for original spirits of past seasons to die…

To adopt a lesser spirit, you will be required to adhere to the rules of Chicken Smoothie and these threads.

Adoptions are produced uniquely per subspecies, but there are three main ways.

Way 1

Since each equine has one specific unique creation tied to it, they are required to create or destruct with it. These specific creations come from the original spirits. A slight spoiler, but to give an idea - The very first spirit to manifest a physical form has features that resemble that of a goat. Upon painting the mountainscapes, this cloven spirit has discovered a multitude of crimson flora and has learned how to maintain their shapes. A small ritual can be done to create other equine spirits that further diversify and maintain the mountains, such as different populations of goat-like ponies. These populations can continue to breed and create even more types of flora and fauna. The original spirits have figured out how to create many other living things as well.

Way 2

Original spirits can also create their own fusions. Mutations will be more or less introduced here. Every once in a while, an original spirit in one region will become lonely and reunite with one another, or perhaps a feud will plague the lands.

Way 3

Sometimes an original spirit loses control and causes storms or tempests, whirlpools, deathly winds, all kinds of chaos and from it births new spirits. This happens when the spirit’s emotions are unleashed and reacting to the environment around them. Similarly, when regions are too peaceful, they become euphoric and a new kind of chaotic spirits can be born from it.

It is encouraged to draw and write about your spirits with their creations, though it is never required of course. Each adopt will have different requirements, but they will almost always be free. There’s no limit to how many you own, but please refrain from trying out for more than 3 at a time. Never sell another artist’s design without their knowledge, even if you own it. They may disallow you from selling it, or cap what you sell it for.
It is also encouraged to decorate your forms, but please do not spend hours on them! Please use stock and other free resources, if not your own. Do not have other people fill out or decorate your forms.

Because this species is dependent on the seasons, the original spirits will be switched out every 2-4 months. It may seem like a lot of time for only a few original spirits to reside at a time, but the amount of knowledge to be learned from each one is intended to be vast. If the species grows there may be more original spirits overall. Since I’m focusing on artistic creativity and my personal fun meter, adopts could be somewhat rare at times considering the amount of time I want to pour into each one.

Some may persist throughout the seasons, some may even be transformed. I want the years to also treat the species differently, so some of the things I had planned won’t happen until next year. This first year will lay down the foundation of the whole species and will determine exactly what traits will persist and which won’t.

After one full cycle (year), I intended for original spirits to die off and retire certain traits and genetics, allowing them to only be achievable through breeding and the occasional rare ‘old’ spirit popping up bearing said traits. Your owned spirits however will persist as long as you wish, if you want to retire them that will be left up to you. I will only control the original spirits and my own lesser spirits.

As the old teachings of the first spirits continue to reign in this strange land, new thought and knowledge makes its way to the surface. Our very first spirit has given the world the gift of freedom, life, and creativity. What will next year’s spring spirits teach?

Since humans do not exist in this world, that makes you a bit of anomaly, doesn’t it? For this species I did not intend for users to be in any particular perspective, but I would like to reiterate that the official world and lore will have nothing to with humanoid or anthropomorphic characters and ideas. How you write/imagine/create with your spirits is up to you of course! Just note that as a species they are intended to be more abstract and artistic than anything.
With that being said, this section will focus on ownership from a Chicken Smoothie Player perspective, and the rules regarding that.

Forum Rules

1. For ALL official topics (as linked at the top of each section of this thread), you must adhere to the lore and overall atmosphere of the threads. Any fake lore you have written or non-official spirits you own, etc must be kept OUTSIDE of these threads. A main hub for such creations may be made in the future. (fake as in, meant to not follow the lore closely enough)

2. Do not mention other species when relating to lore (as in, do not involve other CS communities. This particular main thread is fine to discuss other species, assuming its relevant to my species somehow.)

3. Please always check if a thread is okay to post in!

4. Please refrain from comments such as “mark” or “marking” etc. I consider them spam.

5. Do not use other player’s spirits in any capacity unless given permission, including my own. The original spirits however, are more than welcome to be used in stories, art, etc as long as credit is 100% given and linked back to my profile here on Chicken Smoothie and please understand that the original spirits are not freebies, but more akin to mascots.

6. Do not take the species and ANY of its art (including MYO/fully custom/etc) offsite! This includes ToyHouse and other storage sites. They must stay within Chicken Smoothie. (If USD is ever involved with this species, or enough people disagree, this rule may be subject to change)

Oekaki Rules

7. Whatever art you make with the MYO lines CANNOT BE SOLD UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, INCLUDING FOR CHICKEN SMOOTHIE CURRENCY/ITEMS/PETS. EVEN if you edit them heavily.

8. Please refrain from comments such as “mark” or “marking” etc. I consider them spam.

9. Do not use other player’s spirits in any capacity unless given permission, including my own. The original spirits however, are more than welcome to be used in stories, art, etc as long as credit is 100% given and linked back to my profile here on Chicken Smoothie, and please understand that the original spirits are not freebies, but more akin to mascots.

10. Do not take the species and ANY of its art (including MYO/fully custom/etc) offsite! This includes ToyHouse and other storage sites. They must stay ON Chicken Smoothie. This includes buying art offsite.

11. Feel free to use the MYO pages as regular editables!

12. Feel free to change the lines and art as much as you want.

13. BUT DO NOT REMOVE, EDIT, COVER, OR SHIFT MY SIGNATURE IN - ANY - WAY.

14. Do not, under ANY circumstance copy or heavily reference any other spirit, official or not. This includes the original spirits.

Adoption Rules

A. You may own as many as you want.

B. You may apply for multiple, but it does not necessarily increase your chances. Try to keep your tryouts to less than 3 spirits at a given time.

C. Please adhere to any adoption requirements and do not partake if you can’t commit.

D. Feel free to reuse your decorated forms, assuming said form didn’t win you a spirit already.

E. When using decorated forms, please stick to free stock and your own personal resources. In the future I may provide my own stock images, if enough have interest in that! (do not order or steal any art or code)

F. Also when using decorated forms, feel free to create a thread in the adoptions try out forum to store and link to your forms. Just please make sure your comment on the adoption’s page links to the right adoption form.

G. Do not copy or trace art and stories from other players.

H. For official adopts, you MUST follow the species rules in and outside of the forum and oekaki threads.

I. You must follow any rules and artist (or myself) have laid out for individual adopts.

J. Do not try out for any adoptions for other players. You may gift one you already obtained, but forms need to be done by the potential owner, not someone else.

Making Your Own Spirits

Since this is a semi-open species, you are welcome to make your own spirits! They won’t cost you anything and you’ll have access to the official lines for each season. They will NOT be considered official in any way, and cannot be used in the main threads. You’re welcome to use any officially made spirits you own with your fake ones, in your own spaces, but do not count it as lore-friendly. Even if they’re intended soulmates, you cannot order an official breeding between them and you cannot use fake spirits in adoption try-outs at all. If you breed fake spirits with real ones, this is fine granted both owners have given explicit permission. However, the offspring will NOT count for the official spirit.

In other words, non-offical spirits and adjacent creations will be treated as non-existent here in the main threads. They may as well be considered another species.

That being said, while following all previous rules as well as artist’s rules, you’re welcome to write up your own lore and what not for any official adopts you obtain. But again, fake lore and offspring will not actually count and must be temporarily ‘reversed’ if you use said spirit in any official capacity. Please do not breed real spirits together, and leave it up to me/the breeding artists. Or if you do breed them together, again make sure you have explicit permission and know the breeding will be counted as fake even if both parents are official.

If you wish to breed them to another fantasy species please make sure its possible within that species’ community!
