What are Pips?
Pips are a subspecies created in a laboratory in an attempt to revive an extinct species called Sylvan. Unfortunately, the resident scientist was off in their calculations, creating a smaller more compact subspecies now formally known as 'pips'! Lovingly named after Sylvan young, pips themselves average around the size of a large breed dog. Given their size and the environment which Sylvan used to reign, Pips could not live on their own. They originate from tall black jagged peaks, frost-capped with deep permafrost and ice. Pips hibernate during the winters and store up fats in the fall. They fatten up over spawning salmon and fry before settling down for hibernation. They are mainly mammalian but lay eggs, with clutches ranging from one to four. They sport small front arms and often rely on their large wings to walk on and climb cliff faces. They are venomous and their poisons differ from critter to critter, and the only cure for their nauseous affects is their saliva. Pips often lack some features Sylvan sport, like large claws and their secondary wings.
Their group behavior largely reflects that of their original counterparts. Males typically stay at home and care for the young while the females wander out and forage. They are very social creatures and usually live in either large groups called 'flocks' but can also live in smaller family groups outside from 'flocks'. They often like to hang upside down and huddle together for warmth. They are incapable of flight but can glide over long distances! Their diets consist of fruit, seeds, roots, mushrooms, and rarely fish, shellfish, and poultry. Largely herbivorous and piscivorous, they are considered prey animals.
