Name: Runic
Gender: Male
Personality:
Runic is at heart a goofball. He enjoys playing tricks on others, some of which is lighthearted and some of which is intentionally aimed to hurt others. His sense of humor tends to range from references that are thousands of years old to today, and is almost always cynical. Why cynical? Well when one tends to be around for as many years as he has, one tends to find that things never seem to take very positive turns, especially when all the news you hear is tragic. In an effort to stop others from telling him some of these events, which admittedly he has come to almost enjoy hearing about, Runic gives others vibes which indicate that he is self centered, uncaring, and unconcerned. Unfortunately, through the centuries of acting this way, he has become the very thing he's portrayed. That being said he's terrified of letting others get close to him, and tends to push away those who genuinely care about him. Partially because he thinks they deserve better, and partially because the more others get to know him, the harder it is to keep up the facade. He uses humor as a way to mask his insecurities, his downfalls, how scared he is, and what could be considered a warrior's pain, and to redirect the topic of the conversation, lighten the mood, and drive the attention off of him. Sometimes this is successful but sometimes it only furthers others interest in the subject he's trying to avoid. (249/300)

1 extra:
Runic is a phantom with Norse origins, who has been around since his origin's time. Despite being attached to a certain silver ring, he has the ability to wander about a mile from it, hence his ability to keep up with the world to some degree. Not one to share things with others, Rune tends to keep his past a secret. Preferring that others not know about how he came to be anchored to a small silver loop. He'll probably never tell the whole tale of how he came to be trapped, but for the lucky few who he chooses to share at least a fraction of it with he may tell them a tale among the lines of a handsome phantom courting a beautiful maiden, whom he loved dearly. The maiden, taken with his romantic gestures, returned his feelings with a hint of caution. With time her caution fell away and the two lived in bliss for awhile. The honeymoon faze of their relationship ended with the unexplainable death of his lover, a not so known wiccan, who's mother blamed him for her death; who in the end did anything she could to make sure that he'd never be able to hurt anyone again. He's not quite sure how she managed to imprison him in a silver ring but does know that she somehow managed to do so before dumping him in a body of water as far away from the village as possible. He stayed there for awhile, stuck not only in grief but in a guilt that could be described as a survivors; unable to attempt think of leaving the area until it was too late, the ring covered in a few inches of sand. It took him awhile to figure out what he was attached to let alone find it the energy to materialize himself long enough to dig through the sand in a despite attempt to find what was keeping him there before falling into a slumber that confined him within the object he was searching for. He wont go much further into the story which led him to his current situation, know that if he did that it would entail a long and possibly boring tale which continued from that stopping point up until today.
Although draining, he does, as stated, have the ability to materialize himself, pick things up, make himself invisible to everyone, and make himself selectively invisible to the living. He doesn't materialize himself all to often because of how much energy it takes, mostly of the time he does this when he's around objects he can take energy from, such as batteries, but does whenever he feels like playing unexpected keep away. Taking advantage of his ability to make himself invisible to everyone, Runic occasionally mimics the tendencies of the Cheshire cat; disappearing only to reappear in a different place. His ability to disappear comes in handy whenever others pry into topics he's trying to avoid, such as how he's feeling about any given topic that he's passionate about, effectively escaping not only it but also the situation it's put him in. Due to his inability to wander far from his ring and his unfriendly nature, Rune will probably never be close with more than two viscets, and although he can be understood by all of those who hear him speak, he'll always hear himself speaking in old Norse.
Something that'd be kind of fun to do with him is to use the runes on his body in speech bubbles (which of course would be translated to English below the runes so that the viewer knows what he's saying) which others could read in any comics or pictures that he's included in. (622/700)
