Here we have collected a visual guide to all of our dragons- but beware, these are not to scale! You will need to look through our adoption history to see their true sizes.

Image
Sandlewood Dragon
SIZE & GENERAL BODY SHAPE: Average size is 8-12 meters from head to tail. Long serpentine tail makes up almost half of this length. Body scales are deceptively strong, despite its soft appearance.
LEGS & WINGS: 4 fully formed legs; 2 fully formed wings with a thick bat-like membrane.
HEAD: Prominent head spikes from the same scaly skin as its body, with two thick bone horns. Mouth is filled with hundreds of small serrated teeth made for tearing.
FOOD: A widely varied diet which consists of small game, fish, goats, sheep, and larger herbivores.
FORMS OF ATTACK: Teeth are very dangerous in combat. Will use horns to headbutt other dragons when provoked and males will display their horns and butt heads during mating season. Talons are also razor sharp.
HABITAT/LAIR: In plains where there is a lot of space for them to fly and run. They typically live near streams, not only for the readily available fish but also because the other animals that also come to drink water.
EGGS: Laid in dug-out burrows, these eggs resemble dinosaur eggs in shape and texture. Sandlewoods generally lay 2-5 eggs at a time.
Sandlewood dragons are a fairly even tempered species.

○ adopt & abandoned ○

Postby melody. » Wed May 04, 2016 12:23 am

Here we showcase the dragons that we have up for adoption. These have been bred in our hatchery, rather than taken from the wild, and so will be more tame and easy to train.
While these eggs are usually free to adopt, occasionally we will receive or breed some special dragons, which cost a small fee -so that we can keep the hatchery up & running and so we can fund our dragonologists' expeditions! This fee is only paid by the person who adopts. I will use a random generator to choose for each dragon, so please commit to paying before you enter!
(so, you post the form for the dragon, i will use a random generator to select the person who adopts if there are multiple people wanting the same dragon, and the person who is selected is the only one who has to pay)
However sometimes we breed too many eggs! When this happens we will have them up for adoption for free!

Dragon breeding & acquisition is sporadic, so check back often to see if we have anything available!

Also, you can only apply for one egg per clutch. Once a new clutch is up you can apply again straight away!

if you wish, i will resize your dragon to something smaller to fit in sigs etc., just let me know!

Abandoned:
Sometimes, eggs are abandoned by their mothers. The mother may have sensed something wrong with the egg, some kind of malformation, or that the egg was just...off, and kicked the egg out of its nest, abandoning it. Our dragonologists strive to save these eggs if possible, and so selecting an owner takes a little bit more effort. We don't charge an adoption fee for abandoned eggs- we just need a little bit of effort to know that you will take care of the poor little dragon growing inside.

○ breeding ○

Postby melody. » Wed May 04, 2016 12:24 am

Many dragons have highly desirable traits that owners want passed onto dragon offspring. Here at Drakonus Hatchery we offer to have your dragons bred by the experts in the field of dragon breeding.
The amount of eggs that will result from a breeding depends on how many eggs are typically laid by that species of dragon. Most species lay multiple eggs. However you are only able to keep one dragon from the breeding, unless you purchase an 'extra sapphire', which allows you to keep one extra egg. You can only use one extra sapphire per breeding.
You cannot cross species.
If you only own one of the parents that are going to be bred, you will need permission from the owner of the other dragon in order to breed them. Only a male + a female can breed.
Owner(s) of the parent dragons will have first pick and any extra eggs from a breeding will be put up for adoption.

There is only space for two Nesting Grounds at the moment, and so once these are full please do not request to breed any dragons.

○ rarities ○

Postby melody. » Wed May 04, 2016 12:24 am

There are many different traits that develop in dragons, and so below we have compiled a comprehensive list to assist you. Remember, dragons are being discovered every day so check back here often!
The dragons pictured in the species list are all common.

Spikes/spines
Image
Despite fairytale books, this is an uncommon trait, where excess
bone development has led to a dragon being covered in spiky bone
growths from their neck right down to the end of their tail. This is a
trait carried on from ancient dragons that co-existed with dinosaurs.
Feather wings
Image
Feathery wings! Yes, dragons can have them too! There has
been no dragons species found yet where feathers are a common trait,
but dragonologists are still searching. Feathers are a very rare trait
amongst dragons.
