Scientific Name: Vehemens Selkalis
Common Name: Selkali
Diet: Can be Omnivorous, but prefer a Carnivorous diet.
Temperament: Mild tempered Easily irritated by human
presence, occasionally straight up aggressive and
intolerant. Rarely docile. Sometimes timid or skittish.
In other words, their temperament can be pretty
unpredictable and leans more toward aggressive.
Average Lifespan: Estimated at 350 to 400 years but is
actually unknown for certain. They mature very very
quickly and then aging slows down for the remainder
of their lives.
Average Height: 8ft on all fours
Average Weight: 400 to 500lbs
Genetics: Most Kali's produced through the OBBP are
scaled; those on the base rarely are able to
successfully breed a furred variant, though they
exist out in the wild and are a little more uncommon
than the scaled Kali. Hybrids have never been produced,
but who is to say they can't be?

WARNING Selkali's are highly intelligent!

Can be imprinted on? Yes, a Selkali can be imprinted on
at birth by a single human.
Can be domesticated/tamed? No, or at least not what
you are thinking of. Kali's can form a strong bond with a
single human and they may choose to follow that human
for the rest of their lives.

A Kali is one of the creatures found on Skalis Corr! Kali is actually short for the species' scientific name, Vehemens Selkalis (common name; Selkali), which also derives from the planet/star systems name! They usually stand quite a few feet larger than the average human (8ftish when on all fours, average) and could do serious damage if they so wished, but they're usually pretty mild tempered if not bothered. And I use 'usually' very lightly. Actually, you may wish to avoid them if you'd rather keep all your limbs intact, but hey, you didn't hear that from me.

Selkali's are mainly carnivorous, but I've heard that since our settlement here, they have been occasionally documented to take up an omnivorous diet during hard times (they definitely prefer meat, though, and guess what we're made of?). In the wild, Selkali's are known to live in small packs of up to six individuals but some seem to prefer a solitary or nomadic lifestyle and rarely are seen to interact with others of their species. Small packs often show a loose hierarchy, with the oldest or most experienced Kali usually being the force of reason. Selkali's are highly intelligent and have been recorded to be able to craft from materials found on Skalis Corr's surface.

Kali's are not usually noticeably sexually dimorphic, but females are often a little smaller and perhaps a little more lithe than their male counterpart. All Selkali's mouths are teeming with dangerous bacteria, and if you are bitten (and not maimed) it is highly suggested that you seek medical attention immediately because the wound will surely become infected. Kali's tongues and mouths are generally the same color as their eyes, oddly enough. It should also be noted that Selkali's have four clawed toes on each of their paws. Though the creatures only have two sexes, male and female, individuals can identify with any gender they so please.

It has also been recorded that Selkali's worship a God called Vesidius, of which they believe created their world and the space around it. The entity is genderless, but the Kali often refer to Vesidius with either he/him or they/them. Little else is known about the Kali's deity, perhaps if you befriend one, you'll be able to learn more?

With all of the above in mind, Selkali's can be bonded with in a variety of ways. Some Kali's are produced through our on-base breeding program and if you manage to be lucky enough, they may imprint on you instantly! A Selkali that imprints on you at birth will bond with you as they mature, and you won't have to go through the hassle of putting your life on the line to go out into the wild and find an adult.. but the Selkali's produced on base don't ever really have any of the rarer traits you might find on a wild Selkali. But I mean, hey, at least you have all your arms and legs though, right? However, if you insist on wondering off-base, do keep in mind that wild Selkali's are unpredictable. If you want to bond with one, expect anything, as they're all diverse individuals.

Here on Skalis Corr Base #57 (or Nari Zone 57, whichever you prefer), we've realized it can get lonely and sometimes you might feel homesick after having just arrived from Earth, so what better way is there to cope with these problems (and many others) than adopting a giant, carnivorous beast-creature to be your life long companion? Sure, the aggressive adults in the wild might not be your cup of tea, but what about cubs bred here, just waiting for a friendly face to come by and take them home?

The space around you is lively and colorful, despite the nerves you may have felt before arriving. The plaza consists of a multitude of stalls around a beautiful courtyard, and you could have sworn you just saw a child and a selkali cub frolicking through the almost copious foliage. You can't help but wonder what sort of wares are sold here.

On Skalis Corr, a currency is used called Dena . Dena are small, gold-coloured coins that are created from a common metal found on the planets in the Corr system called Denirium. If you are just arriving and haven't been able to find employment yet, you can always trade currency or items you brought from Earth in exchange for dena.

You have heard whispers of Nari Zone 57 starting an open breeding program where if you would be interested in having two of your Selkali try for cubs they would make sure the offspring were delivered safely. Construction recently started on a decently sized building in the north of the base.. could that be it?

If you would like to breed two of your Selkali (or a Kali owned by you and a Kali owned by another individual), you're in the right place! To breed, you'll need to fill out the form below and you must own at least 1 Purple Vile or 1 of any other item used to breed a Kali [items that provide a litter]. Currently, only oppositely sexed Selkali can breed.

If you and another user are breeding your Selkali, only one of you must have the breeding item but you must also tell me who has it.

Do not remove the code at the bottom of the forms! It makes finding them easier. Removing the code will result in your breeding request being rejected.

In addition to there being whispers of a public breeding program for Selkali's in the works, there are also some hushed rumors that the Nari Zone Breeding Program has been experimenting with creating Kali's in their labs. Apparently, these Kali's can be made catering to requests, having Kali's that look nothing like their wild counterparts.

A common custom costs 400 Dena unless you have a custom ticket [from events, raffles on joinme's, etc].

Customs can be of just about anything-- based off a real life animal, object, item, based off a color pallet, a song, a picture / a theme, etc. They can even be of existing characters IF you own the character.

As the evenings grow cooler and the night grows longer, you've been noticing that there has been some sketchy activity around the plaza. Hushed whispers from faces you rarely see, wary glances toward your form when your curiosity brings you too close and should you persist, they begrudgingly disband and slink away. This had been occurring on and off for the past few weeks, and you were beginning to dread what it could mean. Especially since when you ventured to the Plaza the last few days, you had been turned away before you could get around the bend by suspicious but official-looking guards.

Tonight, however, was different. There were no guards to keep prying eyes away, and though you weren't sure what you would find, you decided to finally quench your desire to know what had been going on. So you move forward, inch around the bend in the road, and.. stop. A part of you is in awe-- another part is almost giddy with excitement and a new-found need to explore.

The plaza had been decorated in an assortment of colours, much different than what you were used to seeing. Black, orange, white, yellow.. there were lights in the shape of ghosts and bats that were strung up between stalls and the lamp-posts normal white glow had been replaced with an eerie purple or occasionally a haunting orange. Many of the shops and buildings had been decorated with spooky decorations, gravestones and skeletal hands poking up from the various gardens. A light fog hung low to the ground, twisting around your ankles in wisps.

Hey there! Welcome to the All Hallows Eve Festival! This is actually the first event hosted on Nari Zone 57 since your arrival, so we truly hope you have fun! Why are you looking at me funny? Oh, that small Selkali laying across my shoulders? Yeah, I'm not sure either. She just showed up one day, and has never grown in size. Kinda weird. The scientists here wanted to study her, but I told them to scram. Her name is Jinn and you'll probably see her wandering around the Plaza during the event since she doesn't like to stay in one place too long. Be nice to her, okay? Maybe she'll even give you something in return for your kindness!

Right now the Plaza is hosting a candy hunt! You can search various places in the Plaza for pieces of candy that might have been hidden while we prepared! According to the bout of anger I witnessed earlier, there might also be some other goodies hidden out there that disappeared from some of the stalls.. Or were just misplaced. But anyways! I've heard that if you don't use your candy during the event, you can trade it for Dena after all the festivities are done.

You can only search one place at a time, so choose wisely! And if you are bonded with any Selkali, you can bring one along with you, too! They might help you in finding some of the hidden items, but their presence might also backfire..
