What is a Gryphn?

Gryphn's were previously thought to be mythological creatures with combined attributes of raptor birds and large felines or canines. However, recently an island in the Norwegian Sea was discovered to have a whole colony of these majestic creatures! After numerous studies of Gryphn's, scientists discovered 5 distinct types of Gryphn's used to reside on the island, but sometime in the recent past, it seemed the distinct colonies merged into one large colony that resided over most of island. Scientists noted however that some attributes from their ancestors seemed to be more prevalent in the species and some seemed rarer in the colony.

Quoted from one of the lead scientists and original discoverer of Gryphns, Walter Gryphn (of which they received their name) in his paper on the species, "The creatures are quite peculiar and were previously only thought to be part of the large mythology in Europe. They are about the size of a lion when fully grown and come in a variety of natural colored coats and patterns. However, their eyes seem to be any color imaginable! They are active during the day and have keen senses that they use to hunt for rodents and birds in the mountain regions of the island and fish, small porpoises, and marine mammals in the nearby oceans. Males and Females can not easily be told apart through looks and it seems as if all of the Gryphn's share the same jobs in the colony regardless of gender."

The work done by scientists has lead to many discoveries about these species. Gryphn's are very friendly towards humans and seem to enjoy their companionship as much as other Gryphns in the colony. Due to such a large colony on the island, the resources to sustain the species are becoming limited and the scientists underwent numerous attempts to establish a new colony on a nearby island with young members of the species only to find the individuals to migrate back to their main island after the humans leave. It seems there is no way of relocating a number of individuals to another island, but it seems that with such a close bond to humans there may be a chance the large number of Gryphns on the island can be reduced with some volunteer's help.

Walter Gryphn is looking for individuals to adopt some of these creatures to help reduce the number on the island to restore the ecology and allow for the continuation of the species. Can you help?

━ Upright Ears- These ears are seen most with the Snow Leopard-like tail. They must have originated from the mountainous, snowy regions of the mountain.

━ Cropped Ears- These ears are seen most with the wolf tail trait. They seem to pull back when a Gryphn is very upset or angered.


━ Plumed Head- This trait is mostly seen with the lion tail. The feather seems to help detect wind patterns on the island.


━ Wolf ears- This trait is mostly seen with the cropped tail. The large ears seem to help hear smaller animals in the noisy bluffs and mountain regions.


━ No Ears- This trait seems to mostly be seen with no tailed Gryphns. These Gryphns seem to be best at diving to catch their prey.


━ Leopard Tail-This tail is seen most with the upright ears. When angry or playful, the tail will swish back and forth. Make sure you know which your Gryphn is feeling!


━ Wolf Tail- This tail is seen most with the cropped ears. When the Gryphn calls out to others, the tail will curl over its back.





━ Lion Tail- This trait is mostly seen with the plumed head. The tail acts like a duster and bug swatter.



━Cropped Tail- This trait is mostly seen with the wolf ears. Gryphns with this tail will spend extra time to preen their tail to make it as fluffy as possible.




━ No Tail- This trait seems to mostly be seen with no eared Gryphns. These Gryphns when happy will shake their whole backside to display their excitement.

Important Notes:
Each Gryphn will be gendered and have a short description along with the certificate type next to it. After you own the Gryphn you can provide an optional description for them for use in the archive by messaging it to me. It should be no more than a sentence or two. The certificate will correspond to ones in the store that have a small price next to them. This is to ensure that the Gryphn is enjoyed by the adopter. The certificate does not need to be purchased beforehand, but once you fill out your form please send the payment over. I will not accept certificate payment if you are not the first to fill out the form for the Gryphn.

Each Gryphn will be available on a first come first serve basis. If you wish to watch this thread for when a new group is released please bookmark this thread. You may only adopt one Gryphn from each released group/breeding.

You are only allowed 5 Gryphns at one time. If you want to adopt any more than that, you will have to release one of your Gryphns to the readoption area.

Gryphn's usually breed only once in their life and produce a clutch of eggs that have anywhere from 1-4 eggs, however certain objects can can allow for them to breed another time. It usually takes about a week for Gryphn's to hatch, but due to advances in research on the species there is a certain object that can allow for the egg to hatch in only 1 day! These items are hard to come by and since the science is so new, can be quite expensive.

Important Notes:
This is where your eggs will stay to incubate. Only 3 breedings/egg hatches may happen at a time. If there is more, a waitlist will be started. Your Gryphn will have to mate with a Gryphn of the opposite gender (there is an item that will permanently change the gender of your Gryphn in the store!) and it must be another Gryphn of yours, or both users must be in agreement to have a mated pair.

If there is more than one user in the breeding, the clutch is guaranteed at least two offspring—one for each user, although more can be produced. There are items in the store that will guarantee 2-4 eggs that can be used for single or two-user breedings. Otherwise, a random generator will determine the number of offspring to be hatched.

Please note that the offspring will have combined aspects of each parents, but will ultimately adhere to the rarity chart above. If, for instance you have a very rare trait (pink) mate with a common (yellow) trait in a 4 hatchling litter you can most likely expect 3-4 will have the yellow trait. I use a random generator to determine how each trait appears, so I cannot guarantee the outcomes.

Mutations can occur with offspring that may have a completely different coloration or a rarer/more common trait than the pair has. If the litter is 3rd gen, the hatchlings may also have traits based on their grandparents that was not seen in the previous generations.

Each user involved may only keep one Gryphn from the litter (you are in charge of deciding who gets 1st and second choice between two users). The others will be put up for regular adoption and can be adopted by anybody. Please note that if you already have the max number of Gryphns adopted you may not adopt one from your clutch unless you give up one of your Gryphns.

Important Notes:
Please note that these prices may change over time as I find they are too high or too low. I may even change the way the items are paid for at a later date.

If you would like to pay in a mixture of currency and pets please send me a message. If you want to pay with lesser valued pets (for example: the item asks for a rare and you want to pay in commons/uncommons) then I ask that you message me first. The general rule of thumb will be that the equivalence of the C$ value is what you need to offer. For example, you want a Quadstone, but don't have a rare. I would most likely accept a payment of uncommons/commons/very commons, but the total of them must add up to the equivalency of the C$ price.

I will treat the pets C$ prices as follows for most cases:
Very Rare: 20C$
Rare: 12C$
Uncommon: 4C$
Common: 2C$
Very Common: 1C$

I would very much love wishlist pets, but as of now, it is not a requirement. Those who pay in wishlist pets for items like dubstones or hearthstones will have a higher chance of getting more offspring.

Wanting a very specific Gryphn off the island, but haven't seen the perfect one? Then this is for you! Walter Gryphn is willing to find you the perfect Gryphn on the island for a hard to come by stone.

Customs Info

Customs will be completed three at a time. The completion list will be below. The list is first come/first serve basis and once the list is filled there will be no waitlist, so you must reapply once a spot has opened. You may only fill out the form once during an open spot session.

Customs will follow the regular Gryphn rules of natural colorations and designs. I will not be making a custom of your pink and yellow striped fursona, for example. If you have any questions about a customization of a character please message me.

Intricate designs will not usually show up well as well as colors that are not very different from one another. Solid colors/spots/striping look best. If you do not have an image I can reference you may describe the design, but please be as descriptive as possible. I will do my best to match the description/image provided in a design. Please make sure the design is either yours or you have permission to use it if you are having a custom made from an image.
