Mkali Breed Information

Postby canis, » Wed Apr 22, 2015 10:15 am

The Mkali (ma-call-lee) breed originated in Africa. There, they were used as multipurpose hunting dogs for animals such as lion, gazelle, and antelope. They have a fierce protective instinct, as well as a tendency to be a bit stubborn. Though overall, they are very loyal companions with a high intelligence capacity and a wonderful temperament.
⇒ Mkali males weigh from 120-140 pounds, while females weigh from 110-125 pounds
⇒ Mkali males stand from 27-30 inches, while female stand from 23-26 inches
⇒ Mkali markings include stripes. It is rare to find a Mkali without stripes
⇒ Mkali may have pretty much any base coat as long as it is natural

Genetics

Postby canis, » Wed Apr 22, 2015 10:16 am

The genetics of a dog are represented with upper case and lower case letters. Upper case letters represent a dominant gene. Lower case letters represent a recessive gene. Therefore, if Piebald (PbPb) is dominant to No Piebald (pbpb), then a dog with Pbpb will display Piebald, despite having the No Piebald recessive gene. Another example is Max. Piebald (PBPB) is dominant to Piebald (PbPb), so a dog with PBPb will have Max. Piebald, but carries Piebald. Below is a list of the genes seen in Mkali. Note that all genes are listed in order of dominance below their letter. For example, a dog with sisp will be irish white because si is before sp (but the dog will carry piebald).

Behavior

Postby canis, » Wed Apr 22, 2015 10:16 am

Mkali, much like any other canine, enjoy living in a pack. However, the owner must establish dominance early on or he/she will experience behavioral issues. Mkali do not get along well with any animal other than a canine, such as cats, farm animals, etc. As far as mates, Mkali, like many dogs, can be bred to different studs each breeding. However, if you find a pair that works well, then feel free to make them permanent mates.

Mkali are primarily carnivores. They enjoy any sort of meat, dog food, etc. Mkali are expert hunters, and they like to protect their prey, so food aggression is common among the breed.

Stats, Breeding, and Training

Postby canis, » Wed Apr 22, 2015 11:44 am

Each Mkali carries a unique set of stats. There are two types of stats that a Mkali has: skill stats and health stats.

Skill stats include strength, stamina, speed, intelligence, and obedience. Skill stats are based on a 0-100 scale, with 0 being the lowest and 100 being the highest. These stats are useful in competitions that are hosted by the MKC. Skill stats may be increased by breeding or by training.

Health stats include eyes, ears, and hips. Health stats are based on a 0-5 scale, with 5 being the worse and 0 being the best. So, for example, if a dog has a 5 in eyes, that dog may be genetically blind. If a dog has a 0 in eyes, then the eyes are perfectly healthy. If a dog has a 5 in hips, they may have issues walking, etc. Health stats may be increased by breeding.

Breeding can only occur between a male and a female. Each litter will have around 1-3 pups that have stats and looks based on the parents. To breed two Mkali, visit the breeding thread and find an open artist. Below is the general techniques that artists will use to find a pup's stats.

        skills stats: father stat + mother stat = ____ / 2 = _____ + (random number between 1-10)

health stats: just select which of the parent's number passes on. so if the father has a 3 in eyes and the mother has a 0, either a 1 or 2 for the pups. if the mother has a 4 in ears and the father has a 3 in ears, either a 3 or 4 for the pups. if the mother and father both have a 2 in hips, then the pups will all have 2's.

Image

Training events will be hosted by the MKC (Mkali Kennel Club). Each training event will have different criteria that entrants must complete to gain the skill stats offered by that specific event. For example, if the MKC is hosting an obedience training event, then they can offer +10 intelligence points and +5 obedience points to entrants that meet the criteria to get these boosts. Criteria may include doing art, writing a short piece, etc. Visit the MKC for more information on training events.
