    { A Lɪᴛᴛʟᴇ Bɪᴛ Aʙᴏᴜᴛ Mᴇ }
      Name: Felix
      Gender: Male
      Age: 25
      Orientation: Pansexual
      Birthday: July 29th
      Star Sign: Leo
      Occupation: Handyman?
Theme Song: Luck By American Authors
"Did you know, the name Felix is Latin and means lucky? I sure feel lucky to have this life."
    { Wʜᴏ Aᴍ I, Exᴀᴄᴛʟʏ? }
      Prideful ϟ Kindhearted ϟ Optimistic ϟ Assiduous ϟ Superstitious ϟ Quick-witted
Felix can be stubborn at times and is quite prideful, reluctant to accept help from anyone even if it's from someone he is close with. He absolutely detests being a burden on others, adamantly refusing generous offers of help even if it makes Felix's life more difficult in the long run. Unfortunately, he is sometimes seen as headstrong because of this, causing him to inadvertently drive away potential friends. But Felix is never hurtful or impolite when turning down the offers of others. Felix is, by nature, incredibly kind and caring. He worries about those around him before even thinking of himself and is sometimes perceived as naive. But Felix is not naive, quite the opposite in fact. He is rather intuitive, often perceiving and catching on to things long before most else. He is just incredibly generous, although he refuses the generosity of others. Felix always tries to find the bright side of things, another trait about himself that leads others to think of him as naive. Optimistic, and although he knows it's silly, superstitious. Felix believes in the concepts of luck, or lack there of, and karma. He is known to avoid anything that might cause bad luck, such as black cats and walking under ladders. Despite what others might think of him Felix always works hard with a smile, not letting the bad attitude of others effect him. He is incredibly dedicated to whatever he sets his mind to, and won't give up until he's achieved his goal.
"My personality? Why, I'm absolutely electrifying!... Sorry, that really was a bad joke, wasn't it?"

    { Tʜᴇ Mᴜᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ }
As you may have noticed, Felix isn't quite like other Simas. He was born with an odd mutation, and whether this is genetic or supernatural in cause has yet to be discovered. In any case, Felix has learned to live with his "gift", but it hasn't always been easy. In fact, the majority of Felix's younger years were spent in a cage, where he was poked, prodded, and examined. His only saving grace through these years was the small window overlooking his cell. He would stare out that window for days, watching the birds go by, which ultimately stemmed his fascination with flying. But that's for another time, yeah? We're here to talk about Felix's mutation. So what is his mutation, you might ask? Well, Felix's body generates and expels a large amount of pure electricity. Unfortunately in his younger years he had no control over this ability, causing him to electrocute anything and anyone he touched, or touched him. Which is why he found himself in a cage, because he was dangerous. His eyesight is different as well, he can see the small electrical pulses that all living things give off. And although no on is quite certain if this particular "gift" is connected to his mutation or not, Felix can see and sense anything supernatural, such as ghosts and demons.

But Felix is no longer held captive, so has he learned to control his electricity? Well, not quite. However, he now has some equipment that absorbs and expels the electricity from his body. You may have noticed it? Felix's bionic wings, arm guard, and the rings on his horns and tail-guard absorb and expel a controlled amount of electricity at a lowered voltage. Although, if anyone were to touch this equipment they would still get an incredibly painful shock, but they wouldn't die. And since the equipment absorbs the electricity from Felix's body, he can now touch anything without worrying about destroying or killing anything.

As a side note, Felix's body tends to go a little haywire in thunderstorms. Small rainstorms just make him uncomfortable, but during thunderstorms he becomes violently ill with flu-like symptoms.
"It's been hard, living with this, but I don't regret one second of it."
    { Tʜᴇ Oᴄᴄᴜᴘᴀᴛɪᴏɴ }
So, Felix is a handyman... sort of. Actually, being a handyman is more of a cover-up for his real job. Felix is really more of an exorcist, but being a handyman is a good cover story to get into houses without arising suspicion. Also, usually haunted houses will have problems with the electricity or need minor repairs (usually caused by the haunting itself), so Felix often gets called to fix an electrical issue, when there's really a spirit in the attic causing a ruckus.

Felix mostly deals with spirits and ghosts, and thankfully they are usually the easiest to deal with. Most of the time once Felix has calmed them down they just want someone to listen to their story, or they will ask Felix to find something for them, or tell someone something for them. Once a spirit has found their peace their door will appear and they can move onto the next life, and Felix loves the feeling of helping them pass on.

And then there are the other supernatural beings, some of them harmless, and others not quite so much. Felix deals with all of them, and although it can be dangerous he truly does enjoy his rather obscure job.
"It doesn't pay well, but it really isn't work if it's something you love to do."
    { Tʜᴇ Sᴏᴜɴᴅᴛʀᴀᴄᴋ ᴏғ ᴍʏ Lɪғᴇ }
      My Inspiration
While working on this form I found myself constantly listening to American Authors, and found that their songs had some influence on the character of Felix. I chose their song Luck as Felix's theme song, but it was a tough choice (Ghost running as the next spot). But I found that all of their songs really fit him in one way or another, so I'd like to share them all with you. Each song has a different influence on each part of his character, but all of them are important as a whole. And thus, I present Oh, What A Life.
"I am who I am, and nothing's gonna change that."

    { Tʜᴇ Sᴏᴄɪᴀʟ Cᴏʀɴᴇʀ }
      Image
      Name: Ray
      Relationship: Friends
Ray and Felix have an odd relationship, considering that Felix's job is to help ghosts and spirits move on to the afterlife and Ray has no intention of leaving this plane of existence. As long as Ray doesn't become dangerous Felix sees no point in forcing Ray to move on, he figures that Ray will move on when he's ready. Although, Felix didn't always think this way. The first time the two met, Felix was actually called in to persuade Ray to leave this world and go onto the next. As you may be able to tell, that's not exactly how things went down. At first Ray's prankster attitude tended to get on Felix's nerves, but over time Felix realized that Ray was harmless and actually quite kind. This was about the point where Felix stopped trying to force Ray away, and the two actually started to realize they enjoyed each other's company. Now the two hang out on a regular basis, usually in the privacy of Felix's small apartment since walking around outside talking to an invisible being can be a bit of an inconvenience. Not that Felix cares all too much about what other's think of him (and if they think he's crazy).
"One of our favorite things to do is watch bad movies."

      Image
      Name: November
      Relationship: Friends
November and Felix did not meet under the best of circumstances. In-fact, November was scared to her wit's end when they first met. Felix had been walking up one of his favorite hiking paths, it was his favorite because part of the path was cut into a mountainside overlooking a forest. This path also happens to be one of the highest hiking paths near Felix's home, and he tries to walk it at least once a month. Felix is obsessed with heights, he wants to fly free like the birds he admires one day, and this is why this path in particular is his favorite. However, November is scared of heights, so this begs the question, why was she there? Well, to be honest, Felix still does not know why November was walking up such a high path when she knew she was terrified of heights. But that's where he stumbled upon her, crying and hyperventilating. Felix, worrying for her, swiftly helped her back down the path. Once November was far from the ledge and could no longer see the drop from the cliff she had begun to calm down. Felix brought her to a cafe near the trail, treating her to coffee and making sure that she was truly alright. Felix realized fairly quickly that November was deaf, but her impairment didn't get in the way of their blooming friendship. For Felix, November is a calming presence, and he is grateful to have her as a friend.
"Our favorite thing to do is to go for walks in the park... but we never go hiking, I don't want November to get scared."

      Image
      Name: Kenpachi
      Relationship: Acquaintance
Kenpachi and Felix cross paths from time to time due to their "occupation". As a Shinigami, or Soul Reaper, it's Kenpachi's job to ferry lost souls onto the afterlife, but Felix doesn't like the approach that Kenpachi takes when doing this. Felix knows that spirits will willing move on once they gain closure, but Kenpachi has the ability to force them to move on. His attitude and smile (honestly, does he really need to be that creepy?) disturb Felix to an extent and Felix tries his best to avoid the other. Of course, due to their line of work, avoidance can only go so far. On the occasions that Felix does run into Kenpachi he tries to finish his job as quickly as possible, and that really isn't all that hard since Kenpachi tends to lend a hand. But not in a friendly way, but more in a "This is my job too and I'm not wasting any time. I'm just going to get it done" kind of way. Most of the time Kenpachi ignores Felix anyways, so it's not much of a big deal... but his presence is still unnerving.
"Honestly, if I ever see his creepy smile again it will be too soon."

      Image
      Name: Nuke
      Relationship: Friends
Despite popular belief that Felix is all about work all of the time, that's not true. His friend Nuke can attest to that. When they first met it was because Nuke's apartment was having a some electrical problems, so the landlord had called in Felix's Handyman Service to deal with it. And it actually had turned out to be a simple electrical problem, instead of the usual spook. While Felix was there, the landlord had also asked him to patch up some other issues like the leaky faucet and the door to the balcony that was rusted and tended to not open. Like at all. How could someone let a door get that bad? Anyways, back to Nuke. Nuke had been playing games while Felix prattled around the apartment, getting work done. Nuke had offered up some snacks and a drink, since he could tell Felix had been working hard. The two had started talking about video games, "What were the developers thinking when they marketed that?", "Have you checked out the new update to this? It's pretty sweet!", "That game was so promising, but it fell flat. What a disappointment.", and so on and so forth. The two had become quick friends, and now they make sure to have a game night at one of their apartments at least once a month. Sometimes it's just the two of them, sometimes Nuke's cousin Cassandra comes by and joins them. Either way, it's a fun time to be had by all.
"I don't mind kicking back and relaxing with some games and snacks. Especially if a good friend is involved."

      Image
      Name: Thanatos Sephtis
      Relationship: Friends
Thanatos is a death Sima, so it's no wonder that he and Felix have crossed paths more than once. However, they've developed an unlikely friendship over time. Thanatos, who is typically aggressive towards everyone he meets made no exception for Felix. Felix, true to his nature, would always try to calm Thanatos down with words instead of violence. Eventually the two learned that they held something in common, they both wish to one day be able to fly. It may be an odd wish for some, but for Thanatos and Felix it is their dream. The two became quick friends soon after, Thanatos using Felix as somewhat of a confidante. Felix doesn't mind spending his time listening to Thanatos unload his feelings, and he wishes there was something he could say to help calm the other male down around others. One day Felix hopes he can help Thanatos with his aggressive nature. Until then, he is happy to be the friend that Thanatos can confide in.
"He's misunderstood. Under that gruff exterior he can be a good guy."

      Image
      Name: Aiichirou
      Relationship: Crush
Felix first met Aiichirou when he stumbled upon the other male during one of his hikes. Aiichirou had been bird-watching, and Felix was fascinated. Felix was quick to introduce himself and the two found themselves making easy conversation about the local bird population. Felix has always loved birds, he is completely captivated by them and is fascinated by the thought of flight. Aiichirou, however, is more knowledgeable about birds, whereas Felix is more of an admirer. Over the years the two have grown close and Felix can easily say that the two are best friends, and although he hasn't admitted it yet to the other male Felix sees Aiichirou as more than just a friend. Aiichirou is also the only Sima that Felix has told about his true job, other than the Simas that were already aware of the supernatural world. Felix is comfortable with telling Aiichirou anything, because he knows that Aiichirou will keep his secrets no matter what. The two try to meet at least once a week to go bird-watching, and if their schedules will allow it they try to meet more often to just hang out. Felix is still trying to figure out how to tell Aiichirou his true feelings, but until then Felix treasures every moment that the two spend together.
"Aiichirou is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. I'd do anything for him."

      ImageImage
      Name(s): Unmei & Jean
Relationship(s): Friend & An Unavoidable Annoyance
Unmei and Jean get their own little section, because one does not come without the other. The two are best friends and Felix often times call them the "Inseparable Duo". Felix is actually good friends with Unmei and enjoys spending time with him, but Jean not so much. Felix is a few years older than the college students, but that doesn't really put a dent in his relationship with Unmei because Unmei is quite sophisticated for his age, easily mingling with the older crowd. Not that Felix is much older than the two, but there is a noticeable difference. It's rare that Felix and Unmei get to hang out on their own without Jean, and Felix resents this a bit. Although, he does not let this show. Jean is arrogant, rude, and pretty much everything that Felix dislikes. Unmei swears (in secret, because if Jean found out there would be a scene) that Jean is really not all that bad, he just acts out because he is insecure. Felix doesn't doubt his friends words, but they're hard for him to believe. It's incredibly rare for Felix to lose his temper over anything (or to even outright say he dislikes something or someone), but Jean seems to know exactly what buttons to push to get a reaction out of him. Unmei (again, secretly) begs Felix to put up with Jean, because Jean doesn't have any other friends.
"I wish Unmei and I could spend more time together without the Unavoidable Annoyance tagging along."

    { Tʜᴇ Sᴜᴘᴇʀɴᴀᴛᴜʀᴀʟ Lᴏɢ }
      Date: 07/29/20XX
Today is a special day, you know? It's my birthday, so I'm another year older. I figure, another year another journal. I bought it as a gift for myself, and I'm excited to break it in. I haven't gotten many cases recently, so I might not have a whole lot to write. I really hope that work picks up again, I'm getting a bit bored. I haven't seen Ray recently either... I wonder if he's moved on? That would be wonderful! But, I guess I'd be a little upset that I wasn't given the chance to say goodbye... So, mixed feelings, I guess. Of course, I don't know if he's moved on or not! It's just a thought since, you know, he hasn't been around. Oh gosh, I'm rambling. I tend to do that. Sorry...

Well, if work doesn't pick up soon maybe I'll make plans to see Unmei.... and Jean too, I guess if I have to. Meh. Anyways, until next time!
        -Felix

      Date: 07/31/20XX
Yes! Today I got my first job in almost a month! I was so excited to do something different, get back to work, even if it was just a simple lost soul case. I found myself in a small old house in the not so great part of town, and the place was pretty decrepit, let me tell you. I wasn't worried though, I've seen worse. The case itself was pretty sad though. I found the ghost in the basement, she was small... young. She had been just a kit when she had passed away. No one should ever die that young, before even getting the chance to live their life.

She was screaming when I found her, causing the lights to flicker throughout the small home. The owners had said that they had been having electrical problems all around the house, and that no matter how many times they had reset the circuit-breakers the problems would keep coming back. And the problems had been getting worse in the past couple of days, apparently even the radiator had started acting up.

I'm glad that I got this case before it got any worse, though. It was relatively easy, too easy in fact, barely quelling my urge to work. The kit had been haunting the house because she had lived here years and years ago, and she was attached to something in the house. Her family was long gone, so it took a while to figure out what she had been attached too. She wasn't much help, she was more upset than anything, screaming and crying and using her psychokinetic ghost powers to fling old cleaning supplies at me. Yeah. Not fun. I still smell like citrus splash floor cleaner.

However, her assault ceased the moment I approached a certain segment of the basement wall. The old wood was rotting away, and there was a small hole in the wall. The hole was too small to fit my arm through, so I ended up having to pull away some of the rotting planks. The poor kit whimpered as I reached into the hole, I could feel something within. I sighed, recognizing the tingling feeling of an old spell immediately. My fingers eventually wrapped around something solid, and I ended up pulling out a small doll. Many many many years ago it had been common practice to make little dolls for young kits using the snipped fur of the kit to make the doll's hair. No one realized that that was, you know, the perfect way to trap a soul in this plane. You don't know how many cases like this that I've had.

In any case, the small kit's cries had turned to sobs of joy when I handed her the doll. There was the typical bright flash, and I could see the kit's door had appeared. She gave a smile in thanks before turning towards her door. Everyone has their own door, each is unique, hers was small to fit her petite form and a very bright pink. Cute. I turned away just before she opened the door and moved on. I always do. I feel like if I watch them go I'm intruding on their moment. I just don't feel right watching them move on.

I guess, in all, it was a nice day
        -Felix

      Date: 08/2/20XX
I finally got to see Unmei today. I met up with him at his work, a small coffee shop on the nice side of town. It's right by the University, which Unmei told me he would be starting there this fall! How exciting! He tole me Jean would be starting there too... not so exciting.

Eep! I don't mean to sound rude, honestly! I just don't like the guy! I actually feel bad that I don't like him, but well... He's very rude and cocky and just... It's hard for me to be around him.

But, back to Unmei! He finished up his shift about twenty minutes after I got there (I got some coffee while I waited, they have the best iced mocha's there.) We ended up catching up over dinner at a small nearby diner, it was rather homey. I had never been there before, but I think I will be going again soon. The food was wonderful!

Unmei mostly talked about how he was excited to be starting at the University and about what classes he would be taking. I told him about work, well not my real work, but my work as a handyman. I don't really tell anyone about my "ghost busting" job. I don't want to freak anyone out, and I'm also not sure if anyone would believe me... Unmei might, just because he's so nice, but... yeah...

Well, all in all, another nice day, even if there wasn't a job for me to do.
        -Felix

      Date: 08/3/20XX
I picked up the mail today and found the typical unmarked envelope with my payment from my last job, and another job inside. I'm still not sure who delivers them, I don't think it's my handler. He always seems so busy. But they are always unmarked, so I know whoever delivers them, they deliver them by hand. Oh well, a mystery for another day.

This job is a distance away, in the next town over. I'll be taking a few buses to get there, I guess.
        -Felix

      Date: 08/4/20XX
      I don't like buses.
        -Felix

      Date: 08/5/20XX
I am so sorry for yesterday's entry! It was like eight in the morning and I had already taken 3 different buses and I had to be at my first bus stop at five in the morning, so I was a bit tired. It was mid day by the time I had made it to my destination. It was a condemned library, and interestingly enough Unmei had actually made an off-hand comment about it a few days ago when I had seen him. I never thought that I'd actually end up there. But there I was.

I had to sneak in through the back, all of the windows and doors had been boarded up, except for one. The window on the back door was cracked, but I ended up having to use my book bag to break the window in. I hate breaking in, but it's a part of the job (I did end up cutting my palm on a piece of glass. Ouch!) Thankfully there was no alarm, or at least t didn't work. It was dark inside and smelled of moldy paper and ink. Eugh.

I knew that it wasn't a simple lost soul or something like that, but the job description hadn't been very informative. "Likely demonic haunting" had been poorly written on a scrap of paper along with the address. Usually my jobs are a lot more specific. I had hoped it wasn't anything too strong, and I'm usually pretty lucky when it comes to jobs like this. Not this time though.

I had probably gone through the library three times looking for the darned demon before it actually showed itself. And by showing itself I mean it toppled a bookshelf on top of me. Not fun.

When it a approached, I wasn't sure how I hadn't smelt it beforehand. It reeked of tar and faintly of rotting flesh. Nope, not fun. I crawled backwards, out from under the pile of books and away from the thing. It's flesh was black and gooey, like slime, and it had curved horns and just no. I never want to see another one of these things again. Ever. It shot this black goop at me, it was almost like tar. Right, well it wasn't the only one with some sort of projectile weapon. Due to my mutation, I have a large amount of electricity captive in my body, and my equipment helps me expel this electricity in a controlled manner. My wrist brace in particular allows me to shoot a bolt of electricity from my palm. But I'm limited to three shots every twenty four hours, maximum. This is because my body can only produce so much electricity at once, and the supply is not unlimited.

In hindsight, zapping the demon really was not a good idea. Tar is a flammable substance, after all. The thing went up in flames, and fire is a big no no in an old building made of rotting wood and filled with old books. So, no, luck really was not on my side. As the thing fell to the floor, writhing in pain (I assume), it set the bookshelf next to it on fire with a loud woosh. Beating the flames to the exit was an ordeal, and escaping before the firefighters arrived was a task itself. I later learned that no one was hurt, so that's a plus, right?

I have a feeling that my pay might be docked for the next few months.
        -Felix

      Date: 08/7/20XX
I got another unmarked envelope. No payment for the botched job at the library a few days ago, but I was informed that other than that I would be receiving my pay as per usual. Turns out that the owners of the property had planned to demolish it anyways. So, maybe I'm not so unlucky after all? I still feel bad about what happened though.

Anyways, there was another job as well. It seems that my month or so without work was the lull before the storm, so to speak. Another ghost, this time at the hospital. The hospital is a common place for me to end up on these jobs, unfortunately. I hate going to the hospital, because I always have to lie. This time I had used the "My grandfather passed away" excuse. I always feel wrong saying these things, but there's little to no other choice.

I found the soul in the room that they had been occupying during their stay in the hospital. It was easy, he just wanted to talk to someone before moving on. He told me about his family and his life, we must have talked for hours. But that was it, once he was finished his door appeared. I turned away again when he headed for his door, and when I looked back, he was gone.

I hope I don't have to go back to the hospital too soon.
        -Felix

      Date: 08/9/20XX
Aiichirou stopped by today! It was a completely unannounced visit, but I don't mind. We went for a walk in the park and fed some of the ducks there. Afterwards we went to see a movie, but I don't think Aiichirou enjoyed it much. It wasn't a great movie, one of those poorly done slasher ones. I enjoyed it only because it was so ridiculous! I must have laughed through the majority of the movie.

We stopped by Toppers to grab a quick dinner, Jean was working the shift. He had the decency to not say anything other than taking our order, so I guess he's really not that bad... maybe. We ordered the pizza to go and came back to my place to eat it in front of the TV. It was a really relaxing night. I walked Aiichirou out, and picked up my mail before heading back up to the apartment. Another unmarked envelope.

I guess I have a job for tomorrow.

    { Tᴇʟʟ Mᴇ Aʙᴏᴜᴛ Yᴏᴜʀsᴇʟғ }
Hello there, Felix! How would you feel about me asking you a few questions? They're pretty simple and aimed towards getting to know you better. Sound good?
Sure! I'll answer to the best of my ability.

What are your favorite indoor and outdoor activities?
Ah, well... Indoor would probably be reading or video games. I know those are both really different, but I like them both a lot. As for outdoors? I like to jog. It helps take my mind off of things when I'm stressed.

What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
Washing dishes. So much so that I try to use paper plates and plastic cups as much as I can so that I don't have any dishes to wash. There's just something about soggy remnants of food stuck on plate-ware that just grosses me out.

What’s your least favorite mode of transportation?
      Buses. I hate them.

      What is your favorite food?
I know it's not really a food, but I like vanilla lollipops...

If you could paint a picture of any scenery you've seen before, what would you paint?
Probably the view from the highest point I've ever climbed to. I've been told that I have an unnatural obsession with heights.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Fly. Well, not that it's possible...

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
The Wright Brothers. I think you can guess why.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
Uhhgnnmm... Donate it...? Well, maybe not all of it, but most of it would go to charities and such. Other than that, I might spend some one one of those sight-seeing helicopter flights. That sounds cool!

If you were an ice cream flavor, what would it be?
Vanilla is my favorite, but I'd have to say I'd probably be Blue Raspberry.

When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
Read, either whatever book I'm working on or a magazine or something. It also helps me relax a little bit.

Have you ever had something happen to you that you thought was bad but it turned out to be for the best?
My childhood. It was spent in a cage, for the most part, but because of it I am now able to control my powers to a point. Those were some hard years, but in hindsight they helped create who I am today. I don't think I'd change my past if I had the option to.

What was the last movie, TV show or book that made you cry or tear up?
The Fault in Our Stars, which is both a book and a movie. I have no qualms with saying that I sobbed through both of them.

What is your first memory of being really excited?
When I was a kit and looking through that one window that I had in my cell. I saw birds flying for the first time, and that's the first time I remember being excited about anything.

The best part of waking up is?
Folgers in your cup? Hehe, sorry. Uhm, I would have to say starting a new day is the best part of waking up.

So, what do you do for a living?
Uhhh... I'm a handyman so I, uh... fix light fixtures and broken door-jams and... stuff...?

What is your opinion on mates?
Oh, wow. Uhm... *blushes* I think mates should be for life. Uh, but! I'm not bashing anyone's choices or anything, that's just how I would want to be... to be with someone forever...

If you had the chance to be a King or to stay with the love of your life, which would you pick?
Love of my life, I don't even have to think about that.

If you could know the answer to any one question, other than "what is the meaning of life", what would it be?
Oh, gosh. Maybe "is there anyone else like me out there?", I mean regarding my mutation and all...

Well, that's all for now Felix. Thank you for your time!
You're welcome! I really enjoyed talking with you!

    { Tʜᴇ Bʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ Pᴏɪɴᴛ }
Death is a fickle thing, Felix has learned over the years. It’s more of a blurred line than most imagine. Once you die it’s not an abrupt end to one’s stream of consciousness, nor does one always automatically go to The Beyond (the Spirit World, Heaven, the Promised Land, etc. There are hundreds upon hundreds of different names, But Felix calls it The Beyond for simplicities sake). Sometimes, one dies, yet their consciousness refuses to leave this plane of existence.

This benefits no one, in most cases.

It is also Felix’s job to deal with these consciousness’s, ghosts, if you will. Felix enjoys his job, he enjoys helping these lost souls find their Beyond. But, this job also causes Felix a great deal of pain. This is because Felix always deals with the end of one’s life, and that is usually not the happiest time in one’s life.

He had once been asked by a ghost: “Why are you always smiling?”

Felix didn’t have it in him to lie, so he gave his honest answer: “Because if I stop smiling, I’ll break.”

And it’s true. Dealing with death every day takes its toll, and for Felix it’s a heavy one. Anyone looking in on Felix’s life from the outside can only see the bubbly, happy Sima with a kind heart. And, it’s not that Felix isn’t these things, he is. But he’s not always these things. Sometimes, it’s a front. And Felix hates to admit that.

But Felix has to be strong, even as everyone else around him is crumbling due to their pain. He has to be the strong one, the one that they can lean on. Because it’s not just his job to deal with the dead, it’s also his job to deal with the living that they leave behind.

This is a story about Felix, and the ghosts named Ro and Ten.

Felix receives this particular job late on August ninth, but doesn’t actually start the job until the tenth. There’s been some strange activity at the park, particularly around the lake. Felix makes his way to the park around mid-afternoon, and after spending a few hours wandering around the park he finds nothing. He decides to take a break and get some errands done.

By the time he returns to the park it’s late, the sun has already set and the place is deserted. Felix isn’t even sure if he’s allowed to be at the park this late. He hopes he doesn’t stumble across security, if he’s not.

He can feel something in the air, and he knows that he’ll find what he’s searching for tonight.

At least, that’s what Felix thinks. After another hour of wandering through the park he can’t shake the feeling of being watched, but he’s seen no ghosts. It’s weird. Usually he can track them down rather fast.

In any case, Felix finds himself staring into the black abyss of the park’s man-made lake. He can’t help but make stupid funny faces that reflect in the rippling moon-lit waters. He wonders if he’s on some sort of wild goose chase when it happens. He feels the sharp push, and there’s nothing he can do when he’s flying, falling head first into the water.

And intense pain fills Felix’s chest and he thinks that this might be it. The end. The water around him flashes brightly.

Electricity and water do not mix.

His body is seizing, rippling with pain. Felix knows that from the surface it must look like some sort of neat light show.

Felix’s vision begins to blur and darken around the edges as all of the electricity is expelled from his body. Felix can’t swim, either, so instead he is sinking. His lungs are begging for air, but there is no air to be had. However, it’s a bodily reflex that he cannot control when his maw opens and attempts to inhale. All his body gets are lungs full of water for its effort.

      Felix is drowning.

’So, this is how it’s gonna end, eh?’ he thinks to himself as his consciousness wanes. His smile has yet to fade, yet to falter, nor will it. Felix always smiles.

Pain. Felix’s body is wracked with pain, but he’s hacking and retching up water, and someone is tilting his head to his side as he lies on his back so that he doesn't suffocate on his own bile.

“Idiot! You can’t die!” Felix hears an unfamiliar voice as his consciousness slips once more.

      Darkness takes over once again.

It’s still dark out the next time Felix’s eyes flutter open. There are two small blurred figures standing above him, but all he can do is groan in pain. So much pain.

”Ten! Ten! He’s waking up again!”

      ”The idiot’s still smiling.”

Felix can’t help but laugh at the unfamiliar voice, but it comes out as a strained gurgle. Felix was pretty sure he was going to die, but he guesses it just wasn’t his time yet. Good. He’s not ready to go, yet.

Drowning would have been a stupid way to go anyway.

The figures above him are slowly beginning to focus, as does the rest of his vision. Her recognizes them as two young simas, twins even. One male, one female. However, their forms are ethereal even as Felix’s vision clears. These are the ghosts that have been causing trouble, and Felix can see why. One of them almost just killed him.

“Alright” Felix coughs, his voice a quite rasp. “Which one of you pushed me?”

The female immediately points to the male, and the male huffs, flicking his nose up. “It’s not my fault that you can’t swim!” he growls, but Felix just smiles. This seems to anger the younger male, but Felix only chuckles.

“Ten! That’s rude!” The female says, but then she gasps as if she’s just realized something. “You- you can see us?” this gets the male’s attention, Ten, Felix notes.

      “Mhm” Felix hums in answer.

“So you actually are dead?” is Ten’s cautious response.

“No” Felix coughs, but double-checks by pinching himself. “Don’t think so, at least.”

      Ten frowns. “How?”

“Dunno” Felix responds with a small shrug. It still hurts to move. “Always could.”

“No” Ten corrects, eyeing Felix. “I mean, how can you be so carefree?”

Felix is not compelled to be completely honest this time. “Dunno” he laughs, but it’s weak. “Always have been.”

This angers Ten again, but the female smiles. “I’m Ro,” she finally says, “And this is Ten.”

“It’s nice to meet you Ro, Ten,” Felix’s voice is finally regaining some strength. “I’m Felix.”

“What were you doing out here anyways?” Ro asks, sitting close to Felix.

“Looking for you.” The twins turn to Felix, their eyes filled with questions. “You can’t stay here, you know. You have to move on.”

Usually Felix would have more tact, but he’s not exactly thinking clearly, his brain is a bit water logged.

The twins look at each other, and Felix can feel the uncertainty that passes between them. Ro sighs, but smiles. “We knew the pranks would have to end one day” her tone is happy, but she’s not quite laughing. Ten is frowning, but it seems to be forced.

“How can I help you move on?” Felix finally asks. He’s trying to sit up now, and it still hurts. He’s still in so much pain, but he has to start moving. He feels cold.

The twins are on some sort of telepathic wavelength, because they both answer at the same time. “Ice cream!”

For once, Felix’s smile falters. He has no idea what to do, because ghosts can’t eat. “Uhh… anything else? You know… other than food?” Please, be joking. That’s one wish I cannot fulfil.

But the twins are laughing, and Felix is sighing in relief and smiling once again.

“Just, tell mom we love her, okay? She needs it.” Felix nods and tries to stand. He fails, miserably. It takes three more attempts before he’s successfully on his feet.

“Oh, by the way” Felix coughs, his throat still feels raw, “thanks for saving me… you know, after almost killing me,”
But he’s saying it with a smile and the twins are laughing right back at him.

The twins lead him across town to where they used to live. Felix realizes that the twins must have died in the park, if that’s where they were tethered. He notices as it becomes more difficult for them to keep their semi-solid forms the farther they wander from the park. But they make it to the small house in a quaint little part of town.

Felix steels his nerves and takes a deep breath before knocking on the door. The sun is just rising, but still someone answers the door. It creaks open slowly, revealing a female Sima. Felix’s gaze flicks to Ten and Ro, making sure that this is their mother. They nod, it is.

Felix puts on a charming yet apathetic smile before he addresses the mother. “I have a message for you,” he says, “from Ro and Ten.” The female freezes, eyes growing wide. It’s the usual reaction, and Felix’s smile doesn’t falter even though his insides are churning with the pain that is showing on her face. “They want me to tell you, they love you. And that it’s okay.”

This is usually the part where the walls break down and Felix has to console the grieving recipient of the news. This is not what he gets. The door swings open heavily and the Sima is grabbing him, shaking him, words falling from her mouth frantically.

“Ro and Ten! Do you know where they are? Tell me!” She’s screaming, and Felix’s stomach drops. “Where are my babies! Tell me!”

Felix doesn’t know what to do, his gaze flickers over to the twins. They’re holding hands and giving him the sweetest of smiles. They’re waving, their mouths forming words that he barely catches.

“Tell her to stop looking for us.” Ro says, her smile faltering as tears stream down her cheeks.

“Tell her we’re in the lake.” Ten says, and the two are turning and heading towards the door that had materialized for them. Felix averts his gaze as they are bathed in a soft light.

“Thank you” he here’s the two chime, and then they’re gone.

Felix is left with their mother, who is hanging on him and screaming and sobbing. Her walls are crumbling, and for once, so are Felix’s.

      He can’t smile.

      She didn’t know.

She didn’t know that her babies were dead.

      To her, they were missing.

      Not dead.

      Never dead.

She’s sobbing and all Felix can do is hold her small, trembling form. Felix doesn’t know when the last time he cried was, but the tears are coming now and there’s nothing that can be done to stop them.

“I’m sorry” and he’s sobbing right with her now. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I’msorry imsorry imsorryimsorryimsorryimsorry.”

His words are running together, but there’s nothing else he can say.

Felix relays the information through tears and sobs, and the mother is wailing in despair.

Felix isn’t sure how he gets home, but he does. Once the door to his apartment closes, he collapses. He’s breaking. It’s coming apart. The world is crumbling around him and all he can do is watch it fall apart before him.

      Felix is breaking.

Felix is young. He knows that this will not be the first time. He’s been warned of this moment, but nothing could have prepared him. He knew it would come eventually, but he wished it had never come.

      Felix is breaking.

He spends the day sobbing in the middle of his apartment.

He doesn’t move from his spot for the rest of the day. Morning turns to afternoon, then evening, then late at night. Eventually Felix loses consciousness.

Felix turns on the news in the morning. The lake has been drained. Officers found two small bodies at the bottom, their forms curled around each other in an embrace.

Felix goes about the day as if nothing out of the ordinary has happened. He knows he will break again, but he’ll deal with it when it happens. For now, he has another job to do.
