After the nuclear apocalypse of the humans that was always destined to happen, there was nothing left on the barren planet but one single wheat seed floating around in a semi-destroyed jar of organisms a late scientist had thrown together as a last hope of survival before the bomb exploded. For around 1,000 years nothing happened on the wasteland, Earth, not yet. Not until the day that the rain returned to the spot where the jar rested in the smoky dirt, spilling over wit a green kind of hope. At the first drop the wheat became buried in the ground, and drop by drop the soil moistened, and the floating organisms came to life. This was the start of the Wheatlands.
1,112 years after the war by the humans, a glistening wheat field surrounded by streams and forks of mutant wheat trees and vegetables the consisted of compressed wheat stood in the middle of a desolate nuclear landscape, creatures scurrying to and fro from wheat to wheat, trying to eat their fill before dark. These creatures, in the process of growing into these horned, rabbit-like animals, had molecularly bonded with the wheat to form a half plant, half rabbit animal. They now thrive happily upon wheat and nuclear stream water upon what used to be Earth, but is now the Wheatlands. These animals are called Wheats.
Wheats are half plant, half rabbit. They are very sensitive to weather and must always live in a summer-like condition. Luckily, their habitat allows for that. They only live in The Wheatlands, a post-moden Earth that was devastated by a man-made nuclear war. They only eat wheat, and can live off of nuclear infused water from their nearby stream.
The wheat community is a close community. They only have about 100 members of their clutch, and they have enabled the ability to inbreed. This means that they can, yes, marry their cousins. They cannot, however, breed with their direct parents or children. They can only breed twice in their life, so choose their partners carefully!
As for appearance, male Wheats have large antlers that protrude from the base of their ears. Female wheats do not have antlers, and are usually light colors. Their coats can take on any color because of the nuclear radiation in their drinking water, and their coats are very fine and have short fur.
There are around 2-3 Wheats born in a litter at a time. They are born in wheat seeds wrapped in a scarf that matches what they will grow into eventually, as a little head up.
