Life Span: 20 to 34 years

They are equipped with long, pointed, swiveling ears that can hear about 3x better than a canine. They see heat, nothing else, and use their heat-vision to help in hunting. Because of their, relatively poor vision, they will often attack things that they aren't entirely sure of what said thing is.

They are very powerful swimmers and incredibly swift runners, going from 0mph to 55mph in just 3 strides. Their wings are small, so they do not allow for long distance flight, but can be used to glide about 6 feet from the ground, allowing them to move over land much faster than when on the ground. However, as exhausting as gliding is, they only do so in extreme emergencies. They are very powerful leapers, and can leap up to 13 feet in a single bound. However, their small front feet make landing from a height very difficult and dangerous, so they very rarely will jump down from something, preferring to either climb or glide down instead of risking injury.

Most of their body is covered in short, fine hairs that are not good, at all, for keeping warm, but, rather, allow body heat to escape easily. They have thicker fur on their necks, which is coarse and rough, designed for protection during fights. Their tail is designed as a rudder to control movement in the water, in the air, and adds stability and balance.

They have retractable claws, much like those of a cat, that they often use to climb and, occasionally, for defense. They have short, sharp, small teeth that are designed to rip and tear, they also have two sets of broad-topped teeth used for grinding and chewing, allowing them to ingest bones. Their jaws are very powerful, and are designed to let them latch on and never let go.

With smaller prey such as rabbits, hares, rats, squirrels, mice, and small birds, they will often grab it around the neck and shake their head rapidly from side to side, much like a dog, in order to kill the prey. With larger prey, such as young deer, cats, small dogs, small foxes, and young big-cats, they will often latch on to the throat of the prey and hold on, cutting off air intake. Their favoured prey animals are small antelope such as dik-dik, royal antelope, and such. They are opportunists, and, in the spring, will seek out bird nests (both ground and tree) to devour the eggs. They'll also go after bugs such as locusts and spiders when such things are available.

Often they travel in groups of three to four called Packs. Each pack contains only one male and 2 to 3 females. The male is very territorial and aggressive towards other males. The male will breed his females in late winter, the females will give birth to 2 to 4 cubs. Cubs are born blind and deaf, but with a strong sense of smell. At this age, cubs have not yet developed the thick neck fur, the heel and elbow tufts, the tail tuft, or the hip spurs that they will develop at a later age. All of the females will raise the cubs together, and the male will stay around them protectively. He will not leave the cubs and females at all during this time. Usually just one female is left to care for the cubs, while the others will go out bring back food for the male and remaining female(s). Usually the den is made near a water source that has a good amount of shrubbery surrounded it. The cubs will nurse from the females until the age of 12 weeks, at which point they have opened their eyes, developed the neck and joint fur, can now hear, and have grown their teeth. Now they will begin eating meat and drinking water. At the age of 16 weeks, the whole pack will leave the den area and the cubs will start learning how to hunt and survive. At the age of 24 weeks, the cubs will leave their birth pack and run off to start their own packs.

All her life, Ria had seen the heat-streaks of birds floating in the sky. She had wings too, but even with them and her strongest jumps she couldn't reach the soaring heights they did. She watched with envy and plotted a way to soar on their level. Finally she found a way to reach them. She began a long trek up the towering mountain near her home. The rocky path was warmed by the sun and glowed a pretty orange in her mind. Ria's colors blended into the rockside and she grinned with the thought that the birds would never know an intruder would soon infringe on their lofty sky-space. Reaching the top, Ria rested for a moment. The warm rock face disappeared from her view, and it was a long ways down before the cool blue of plants reached her consciousness. Her heart beat, once, twice, and then she threw herself into open space, her strong back legs flinging her away from warm rock into cool swirling air. Her wings snapped open and she blew over the land far higher than others dared go. And it was her delight when a startled squawk told her some bird noticed her achievement and rise into their domain.

Parag looked around the forest. Her sister had just given birth, and she was hunting for food to keep her sister's strength up. There! Right in the center of blues and greens was a deer-shaped (or what she thinks is a deer) animal.She slowly approached the animal, making sure to not make any sounds or sudden movements. But she was too slow. A sudden rustle scared the deer, and Parag didn't stay to see what it was. She decided to try in a different area in the forest. {WIP}
