Adenia

Rantius' mud green eyes blinked wide as the air around him seemed to vibrate with a single, heartening melody. He cocked his head in an attempt to discern the beautiful song that has aroused him from his deep year long slumber. He let out a low angry growl as he found his perches height posed a problem for the ancient music lover. With a great shake he dislodged his body from months of sediment, showering the crowds below with dust. A light chortle of laughter left his jaws as the humans and other various creatures looked up at him, eyes wide and mouths agape, to them it must have been like a scene from a horror movie, a statue coming to life above their heads.
He settled his body high above the heads of those below his claws digging deep into the stone above him as he hung upside down, he paid them no mind to them, instead he scanned the area. There was only one thing on his mind.. finding the source of a melody so beautiful it could disturb the sleep of ages. A low snort sent a cloud of Smoke raining down on the humans below, he blinked twice as his eyes, blurry form sleep and disuse adjusted fully to his surroundings. He saw her then, and his head cocked in wonderment, her body was plain, her colors dull and in away she looked completely unremarkable, a female who's looks were not fit to turn his head. Yet he found himself entranced by her, her voice was that of an angel, each melody found him and tempted him before quickly dashing off into the distance. Rantius found himself baring his teeth and whimpering in envy and pain, it was to cruel, he could not bare to let her slip by him.. he had to have her for himself.
Rantius let out another snort and bunched his heavily patterned body up in preparation to fly, when a voice stopped him dead in his movements.
" Hello again.."
He paused and cocked his head, her voice was quiet and calm, but spoke of a deep wisdom.
"For those of you who do not remember me, I am Adenia, I have once again come to you in hopes of finding one who wishes to experience all this time of year has to offer,Come impress me with your songs."
Adenia her name seemed to echo through the cavern, it had a strange and alien ring to it, and he had to admit he liked it. Slowly he adjusted his position, allowing his gaze to drift over her once again.. something she had said.. it struck home with him, her love for the season ... the old dragon's mind reeled, what season was this?
Interested he opened his mouth, the air tasted stale, and earthy. Much like every other cave he had ever been in during his lifetime. yet there was something underlying in the cave wind, it was no scent, and it was no taste. Interested he opened his mind to those below, a myriad of thoughts and feelings assaulted his senses. Surprised he closed off all but a slight trickle, and from them he garnered enough to realize it was Christmas, the Holiday of giving.
He found a deep sense of happiness bloom in his chest at the realization, the female.. Adenia.. wanted to experience all this season .. Christmas had to offer eh?
He could do that...
With a grunt he dislodged his claws from the ceiling, dropping instantly 20 ft straight down, the air seemed to quiver around him as he caught himself. He hovered there for a few moments before undulating his body in a wavelike tremor. He propelled himself across the space between him and Adenia, with a motion like that of a sidewinder. It was not long before the joy of his flight overtook him, and a deep rumbling purr shook his body as he flew.
He landed just in front of Adenia, and looked at her with deep interest. He was surprised, up close she was much smaller than he had thought, her full body was only a fraction of his head's length, and she would easily be able to fit in the space between his antlers.
he lowered his head and adjusted his body till he was staring at her with one mud green eye, this was the harder part of his introduction, his mouth was not the correct shape to form the words of the language Adenia's species used, so with a slight push, he touched her mind lightly, and began to mentaling sing.
Said the night wind to the little lamb
Do you see what I see
Way up in the sky little lamb
Do you see what I see
A star, a star
Dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite
he shifted his form slightly,
Said the little lamb to the shepard boy
Do you hear what I hear?
he brought his tail around, lightly touching Adenia's face
Ringing through the sky Shepard boy
Do you hear what I hear?
He broke the touch, and lifted his head high.
A song, a song
High above the tree
With a voice as big as the sea
he looked down and fixed Adenia once again in his gaze,
With a voice as big as the sea
Joy filled him as he continued, he felt like he could float away if he was not careful, unconsciously he let his mind's connection wander out, till his consciousness touched all around him,
Said the shepard boy to the mighty king
Do you know what I know?
In your palace wall mighty king
Do you know what I know?
His body seemed to burn with pride and against his own will he found himself begin to float, all the wile still singing.
A child, a child
Shivers in the cold
Let us bring him silver and gold
Let us bring him silver and gold
he began to lose himself to the melody, his body began curving in on itself and he twirled and danced in mid air, yet onward he continued.
Said the king to the people everywhere
Listen to what I say
Pray for peace people everywhere
Listen to what I say
he snorted, reality seemed to crash back down on the shoulders of the dragon as he realized he what he was doing, yet he still continued on.
The child, the child
Sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light
slowly he began to lower his body, he curled his great expanse back on the ground, and ended the song on a single quivering verse.
The child, the child
Sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He stared intently at Adenia, allowing the power of his voice to fade. the world seemed a bit colder with its parting, yet the elder dragon spoke up once more.
Dearest Adenia, I have slept for a long time, it is not by chance that I have awoken today, The fates have an odd sense of humor. Come with my age and knowledge, and your voice and kindness together we can spread the joy that is so sorely needed at this time of year.
