Renegade whinnied to the wild wolf, and it barked at him in response. Renegade backed away from the both of you, sitting down away from you to leave you alone with the wild wolf. The wolf looked at you challengingly.

i looked the wolf in the eyes, showing i wasn't afraid even though deep down i was freaking out.
i held out my hand once more, letting the wolf get a good look at it before i brought it close to her face for her to sniff.
"I know you're hungry, i can see your ribs. we have lots of food and water where we live. it's also very warm and cozy. don't you want to be loved? because you're very beautiful... i would take very good care of you..."

Renegade refused to come over to you and shook his head; he was only able to get you a chance to get the wolf to trust you, but he couldn't help you win over the wolf. The wild wolf snorted and turned away from you and Renegade. If you didn't figure out what to do soon, it might be to late.

I looked around frantically. I found a branch and
grabbed it. I thrust it gently at the wolf, trying to force her into a
dead end against the base of the mountain behind us.
Maybe that would buy me some time to think of what to do.
but the branch was flimsy and broke.

I sat on the ground and scratched my head for a moment. I had an idea.
Maybe if i can't please her with an object, i gan give her something pleasing to hear!
I softly started to hum to myself in my best voice. I think it sounded pretty good,
Renegade seemed to go into a trance.

She saw this as a threat to her survival and leapt onto you with a menacing growl knocking you to the floor. Renegade took immediate action and flung himself at the wolf to protect you. The wild wolf, being already slightly injured, wasn't going to take any chances fight two different threats at once, so she fled through the fallen trees, back to the forest where there was cover.
