Her eyes flitted around the forest quite nervously.
Mottle was only - what, apprentice-aged, if she had to match her own age to the scale of the wildcats? She wasn't quite used to the territory of this one, truly.
It was... quite densely packed with fog. It was confusing to navigate in and the eeriness rather set the scene for what she was stepping into.
Which, literally, was a patch of mud. Mottle groaned and stepped back, but the damage was done.
"Welcome."
The sharp tone of the other cat's voice rang out, and she flinched.
"Where are you?" her head lifted up to the source of the noise, yet there was no cat. The fog was too dense.
And yet, as she continued to try looking for the voice, she noticed a pair of gleaming eyes; orange, intense, peering as if peering into her own soul.
She was thrown to the ground in a quick rush of movement; the scene suddenly intense, flashes of a red sky illuminating the chaos around her. Gazing back up at her attacker - she realized - it was no cat, no cat at all.
Her claws dug into the dog's fur in a futile manner.
The fangs had already met her throat.
Mottle gasped, suddenly thrown back into reality. The cat, previously well-hidden, grinned as she stepped forward into the light; a ginger tabby. This was Waspstar.
"Well, now that you've seen your destiny without us, why don't you come along, child?" she purred, and her words set an uneasy prickling down her spine. Child.
"What - what was that? That wasn't real, right?" Mottle quickly rambled, glancing back nervously up at Waspstar, who twitched her tail in amusement.
"It will be if I decide you're not worth my Clan. If you don't shut up, I may just think that," which earned Mottle a glare as she shrunk back.
"Can you see the future? Is that - is that the future? Did you just make me - see -" Mottle's brain was spinning as she tried to comprehend.
"Mottle, listen. I took you over here for a reason, didn't I?" Waspstar muttered, wrapping her tail around her paws as she sat down. "Now, will you accept your fate, or change it?"
"I... suppose..." she trailed off, looking down to the ground. "I will. I will join you guys. I promise I won't mess up."
"That's a promise I request that you keep."
