Tracker Dog Application
Username: Mello-chan
Tracker Dog you want: #83
Name you'll give it: Hikari [Light in Japanese]
Reason why you want it:
I haven't applied a Tracker for a while, and recently came up with a story idea of two Trackers working together, set in Hokkaido, Japan. My ideas for the two involved a wild and an aerial, Hikari and Sakura. Originally, Hikari was going to be male, but this girl fits Hikari perfectly, and the name rather suits her design, in which light is the main feature. I love her personality, especially the idea that she can be independant.
Will it be used in any kind of story?: Yes, as soon as I find an aerial to fit Sakura the two will feature as the main characters in a story I'm planning.
Describe its personality:
Hikari is best known for being:
Shy
Unsure of herself around civilians and any other Tracker other than her loyal long-term colleague and best friend, aerial Sakura, Hikari will very rarely trust others.
Loyal
Completely dedicated to both her unit and her job, Hikari takes what she does very seriously, and always gives it her all.
Quiet
Often not bothering to have an opinion on things she doesn't consider relevant, Hikari doesn't talk much, prefering to simply blend into the background.
Curious
Finding out things is one of Hikari's favourite things to do; she desires to know as much as possible to prove her worth and that a wild can be as useful as the adored aerial of her unit. This desire has often got her into trouble, but no-one blames her for it.
Independant
Though she would never do anything to harm anyone - especially not her unit - if Hikari feels that someone has made a wrong decision, or something is off, she will go off alone to right it.
Write an introduction for your Tracker:
Hokkaido Police Tracker Archives wrote:Female, Hikari, Wild Tracker. Newest member of the Hokkaido Police Tracker Unit.
Handler: None specified. Will work with any of the handlers perfectly contentedly.
Purpose: Search and Rescue. Trained to find the victims of crimes or accidents.
Other notes: Strong willed. Caution is advised when letting her loose.
I growled softly, paced my cage. Today was the day I would be presented with my first mission as an official tracker of the Hokkaido Police Tracker Unit, and to say I was nervous would be an understatement. This was all I had been training for for the last year, and I was determined to prove myself.
The door squeaked as someone entered, and my ears pricked up. Assistant Tracker Handler Namikawa Miyuki approached me slowly, one hand behind her back. I skittered backward, but her other hand snaked out and turned palm up, reassuring me.
"Ne, Hikari." She breathed, reaching for my ear, then quickly bringing something from behind her back and pressing it against it. There was a click, and a sharp pain. I shook my head, yelping, but the pain was already gone. She smiled, ruffling the fur on my head.
"Just your earpiece, sweetie, nothing to worry about."
With that, the door closed and I was left alone with my worries.
Who would handle me today? There were 4 humans in the Tracker Unit: Namikawa Miyuki, Ito Akane, Takahashi Keiko and the newest, Sasaki Ryuu. Namikawa was an Aerial handler, so it wouldn't be her. Ito... It might be her... Takahashi Keiko was unlikely, working as he did mainly with Namikawa and her Aerial. Surely they wouldn't pair me with the youngest, Sasaki Ryuu?
So it would be Ito Akane, then. I decided, laying my head on my paws to wait.
The door opened again... and in stepped an anxious Sasaki Ryuu, a purple collar and chain lead held in trembling hands. Ryuu?! I scrambled to my feet, barking sharply.
"Please calm down, Hikari." He pleaded, stepping forward tentatively to fasten the collar around my neck and lead me from the pen.
I'm going on a mission!
The van sped down the main road to Sapporo, turning off just before the city, and the radio on the back seat crackled, becoming clearer.
"Hello, Sasaki. Listen. We have a kidnapping suspect on the run just south of Sapporo. We think he's heading back to wherever he's been staying, possible victims inside. Hikari's to take a look around and rescue any people held in the building. Don't worry about the criminal, Sakura's already on her way. Good luck, Ryuu, Hikari." The slightly distorted voice over the radio was clearly Takahashi Keiko.
"A-affirmative." Ryuu stumbled slightly over the words, switching the radio off and killing the engine. "Right t-then, Hika, let's go."
I leapt out of the van, Ryuu trailing behind me, desperately yanking on my chain leash.
"Hey!" He called indignantly, waving a torn fragment of cloth in front of my muzzle, then stooping and unclipping the lead. Just as I was about to rush off, Ryuu hugged me.
"Be careful, Hika." He smiled, letting go. I barked happily, rushing off into the forest.
~
The forest was dark, and creepy. I shivered, brightening my glowing markings to make it more reassuring. Above me, I heard the rush of air past wings, and a low frequency shriek as Sakura blew past, heading deeper into the woods. I followed the sound of wingbeats, loping to conserve my energy. Namikawa Miyuki would undoubtably be close behind, and I was determined to finish my mission before the rest of my unit arrived. Sakura shot upwards and doubled back, going after a fleeing shape, but she had led me right to the cabin.
It was dark inside, that much I could tell as I nosed the door of the building open; he'd left it unlocked in his flight, and prowled down the hall, claws clacking against the wooden floorboards. I barked loudly, and heard a soft voice from upstairs.
"Help!" It called. I rushed up the stairs and slammed my shoulder against a locked door repeatedly, clawing at the wood. It splintered and cracked, leaving a hole small enough for a Tracker to crawl through. There were two girl-children inside, wide-eyed.
I barked four times, the agreed signal for 'I've found them,' and gestured for the children to follow me, gently tugging on their sleeves. Downstairs, there was a crash, and one of the girls screamed. Sakura was downstairs, snarling evily, and so was the criminal. I could hear him swearing.
