I want to win this bat!
Name: Kyle
Gender: Male
Short story entry:
Once upon a time, there was a little orange bat who was renowned for making the best gingerbread in Fruitutopia! Bats would come from far and wide to see the master baker at work, learn from him, and take samples of his baked goods. But the chef bat was greedy. He charged a high price to all who came to visit him, and was as greedy and miserly as they come.
One Christmas night, as he was leaving his shop, he saw what appeared to be a starving old bat, wrapped in a ratty cloak. "Please," she asked. "Could you spare some of your gingerbread to feed me?" The chef bat laughed and refused. "Go find a soup kitchen, you old hag," he said cruelly. "Ask for handouts from them. They do that this time of year especially, don't they?"
He turned his back on her and began to leave, but then the old bat threw off her cloak and transformed into a radiant sorceress! Angered by his selfishness, she turned him into gingerbread, causing his wings to become stiff and cookie-like. "You will never cook gingerbread again," she said severely. "Since you don't share with anyone but yourself. A big part of Christmas is being kind and generous with each other, but obviously you don't care about that. So you will become the very thing you refused to share with others." And with that, she vanished in a flash of light.
Nowadays the gingerbread bat had thoroughly repented, and is a kinder, more generous bat. He went and found a good witch, a yamapillar named Greta, and begged her to turn him back to himself. She transformed him, not all the way, but so that he looked like a normal orange bat again, with gingerbread markings, so that he would never forget the penalty of being greedy during Christmastime.
"...and that's why I look like gingerbread!" Kyle finished his story, dissolving into giggles at the skeptical looks on the other bats' faces. "Yeah, right," Froyo said, laughing. "And I suppose I was transformed into strawberry ice cream in the past, too!"
Kyle grinned. "Nah, you're right, that's not what happened. I was just born this way. And plus I'm much too kind-hearted for that to be true." He paused for a moment as everyone laughed- Kyle was a nice bat, but a bit of a goofball. "But Greta did help me for real!" he said once they'd quieted down, turning to the green Yamapillar and giving her a big hug. "I was more gingerbread-like in the past, kind of like how Mallow's mane is real candy. my wings were so stiff i could barely fly, but she enchanted them to become like real wings so that I could fly." He gave his yamapillar friend another squeeze. "That was her Christmas gift to me. Thank you, Greta! Merry Christmas to you all!"
"Merry Christmas!" chorused all of the bats.
