_____________________________________________________________________________________________well hello there. it's [s]kat here,
coming to woo the magnificient
and very beautiful niodicoro.
let me just get this out first,
though: her name sounds so
cool off my tongue, like a
tropical city somewhere along
the equator or something. am I
right, or am I right? anyways,
included in this "woo" of sorts
is all of my ahz, and me, kat,
of course, but the main
ahzenai in this woo is going to
be the wonderful, incredible,
ever-so-new-to-my-family
persica. she hasn't been included
in any woos yet, so this will be
an exciting time for the both of us.
Dawn light shifted into the cave. The dried reeds and vines hanging from the roof swished back and forth in the light breeze, and the small pink blossoms woven into them blew away. New ones were entwined in them every night. Usually Ichi did it, but sometimes Kat helped, as she was the one with the opposable thumbs, and other times Thazel backed away from her chocolate to help out in the evening.
Inside the cave, the stone walls had a low line carved into it; each line was cut about a foot and a half into the wall, but only about a foot tall. They were all filled with water; clean, clear water that was replaced every weekend. The seven creatures inside the cave usually drank it all up by refill-time, so it was never a hassle.
Kat, the owner of the cave and the ahzenai inside it, opened her eyes, only to shield them from the bright morning sun. She groaned; having to get up was no more fun in Ahzen than it was in the "real world". She hadn't been there in years. The last time she had been, she was sending her beloved dog Bleu back. Dogs didn't fit in well in Ahzen, especially now that Kat had other occupations to take care of.
Suddenly she heard a commotion outside. Three blurry black figures were outside, their bodies outlined by the sun in gold. She squinted, then strained to listen in on what they were saying. Without turning around, she kicked whoever was behind her and wacked whoever was to her right. "Get up! Something's happening..." she half whispered half yelled to the group. As no one even thought about stirring, she turned around, shoved Elvira, and yelled again, "Get up! I think three more came out of the vortex last night." at that, a few of them rolled over or moaned, as if possibley, MAYBE deciding whether or not it was worth getting up, but most of them just flicked their tails and remained quiet.
Fed up and tired of their laziness, she opened the trapdoor in the corner of the room, strolled down the short ladder, and made her way into Izres underground home beneath her own. He preferred darkness and solitude, and the rest of the group respected that. But, now, Kat was furious and going to her last resort. You see, Izres was very, uh, special. She grabbed the only torch there was in his "den", slid it across the ground, and proudly watched the sparks dance around and light it. Izres immediately opened his eyes and began looking around, confused and nervous. He spotted the torch and and booked it out of there--up the ladder and in the awaiting feathery nests of his peers. Kat listened as she heard him most likely step on every one of them, and occasionally heard one of the girls frantically wail. Typical.
She dipped the torch in Izres' water jar and climbed back up, only to have moments before he soared back down in place of her. She stood, arms crossed, as they all glared at her. "What was that for?" Ichi whined, smoothing her fur down. "Well I had to get you all up somehow. Come on. Three Ahzenai arrived--somehow." she ran out, looking back to make sure they were following. Oelaer was first, looking derpy as ever; Ichi, Thazel, and Elvira were all gossiping in the back; Izres wasn't going to show, that was clear to see; and Persica... Kat sighed. Persica was back by the cave, reaching up to pick a delicate-looking apple from the tree overhanging it. She looked so beautiful, curled up in the nook of the large tree, with her small paws trying to grab the bright red fruit. Her tongue stuck out of her mouth just barely, as if she was thinking hard or just trying to try be careful.
"Persica, are you coming?" she called to her. The light green Ahz jumped, taken by surprise in her deep thought. She looked back up at the apple, disappointment gleaming in her eyes as she turned away. Persica nodded and bounded over, next to Oelaer. He made a strange purring sound and nuzzled her--ever since Persica joined them, she had sort of been "looking out for" Oelaer, who wasn't the brightest bulb in the box.
As Valcyon announced the three's arrival--Ciphegar, Niodicoro, and Riae--Kat learned they had simply "traveled" here, not from the vortex. At that, Ichi and Thazel scampered off, probably to go bug Izres. Elvira, also very uninterested, padded off with some of her little "magic-y friends" to discuss stuff that Kat would never understand. The last two remaining were Persica and Oelaer. Persica was looking longingly at Nio, while Oelaer tugged at her tail, willing her to play with him. She pushed him off, but he perisisted. "Oelaer, go find Thazel. Show her that great move Persica taught you yesterday, okay?" she smiled at him. Anyone could tell he wanted to stay, but he really had enjoyed learning the move. It was defensive, sort of like a drop-and-roll. Persica had planned to teach him the rest of it tomorrow, the part that is offensive. It did little damage, but caught the enemy off-guard. Persica had taught Kat the same move the day after she had wooed her.
Oelaer obeyed and scampered off like a kitten, his tail fluffy and his eyes dark with excitement. Persica nodded her thanks to Kat.
Persica slowly approached Niodicoro, a flower pressed behind her ear. "Hello, I am Persica." she said softly, "I heard you. Nature, it's sorta my thing, actually." she sighed with a gentle laugh, plucking off the feather and twisting it in her paws. "I know I have a good life with my family; they've treated me well. But I want to expand my horizons... I want to learn. If you would have me, I would like to become your apprentice." she looked back at Oelaer, whose bright blue tail had just disappeared into the cave. "I promise to work hard for you. I've been told I am a fast learner, too, so you don't have to worry about that." she was smiling now, looking up at the sky. Persica dipped her head--a sign of respect--and hopped back to Kat. Her eyes were glossy, but she looked happy. She gave the flower to her, and said one simple thing, "Do you like apples?"
