Name:
Iapetus
Why do you want this goennec?:
Ia is absolutely perfect. I adore the short mane and long tail combination, and love his subtle but stunning sepia tones. In my eyes, Ia is the missing link between all of my Goennecs. He is the brother of Tiger, the childhood rival of Ali; the protector of Claire, and the companion of Roe. His past belongs with my traveling trio, and his present belongs with the herd that all of my others belongs to. His future ... well, only time can tell. I've been wanting someone to connect the two different storylines, and this lovely ram fits the bill perfectly. It would be marvelous to have a Goennec that knows not just a few of my others; but all of my others. There's something about this boy that I just connect with, and feel that he connects with the others of my 'herd' as well. There has been an empty spot in the stories of my others, and I feel that Iapetus fills it perfectly.
How would you use this character?:
Ia would be used first and foremost as a headmate. I love to mentally communicate with my characters, and I love to play out their stories in my mind. If possible, I would try to find a way to fit Ia into the main RP in the future, and would likely do several 1x1's with him as well. This ram would be drawn all over my school assignments, guaranteed; and once I get more comfortable with art, I will be posting many pictures of him and all of my others online. Stories of him would be written, of course; but most of all- he would be treasured and loved.
Define your Goennec:
Relationships:
[Though Ia has and will have many relationships will almost all of my Goennecs; these are the most significant four.]
Ali: Ali and Iapetus grew up together, and were the very definition of best friends/worst enemies. Each strived to be better than the other in almost all aspects of their young lives; whether it was hunting leaves or training to join the herd's soldiers when they had fully matured. Underneath their competitions, there was always a sense of candraderie. The two ate together, slept together, played together, and truly cared for each other in the way that best friends should. Now, however, Ia doesn't think of the tan doe very often, and when he does, they are usually thoughts of regrets. He misses her, and occaisonally daydreams of what it would be like to be a part of her little herd. Ali, however, strongly dislikes the ram now, due to him abandoning Tiger, his brother, when the herd disbanded. It was by accident, yes; but she refuses to get past the fact that it happened.
Tiger Eye: Tiger is the younger, and Affected, brother of Iapetus. Prior to the herd disbanding and Tiger ending up with Ali and Neu, Ia was the main care-taker of the little ram. He loved his brother very much, and was constantly amazed by the younger's intelligence and wit. Ia had been planning to take care of Tiger until the day he died, but unfortunately, things did not work out in the way that he had planned. Even now, years later, constant guilt plauges Ia over the loss of his brother. He had not meant to leave Tiger, but knows that if he had been more vigilent, his brother would likely still be with him.
Roe: These two brown rams are the very best of friends. They do almost everything together, even though they're both capable adults.
Upon being accepted into the new herd, Roe was the first that Ia formed a bond with. The other ram helped him adapt to life in the new herd, and helped him to forget most of the unhappy memories that went along with the disbanding of his previous one.
Ia and Roe can often be found together; play-fighting like kids, devising ways to determine who is stronger/faster/etc, or just talking. There are rumors that the two rams are slightly more than just good friends, but the pair seems to be oblivious to the true depths of their feelings.
Claire: This Affected doe reminds Ia very, very much of his younger brother. Watching the blind, mute girl trying to make her way through life has a very profound effect on the ram. He has taken the role of her keeper, and maintains an almost constant watch over the little doe. He talks to her even though she can't hear him, takes her on walks, brings her prey, and loves her. She feels safe because of him, and has grown to trust the gentle, kind ram over everyone else.
History:
Iapetus was born into the same desert herd that Ali was, around the same time that she was, as well. His beginnings were by no means special; he was just a normal kid, born to normal parents. He spent his time as a kid playing and competing with Ali, and simply finding ways to ammuse himself in the bleak desert. He was not all that interested in learning or discovering, and was fairly egotistical and sefl-righteous for a kid.
When his brother came to be, however, that changed. As a yearling, Ia was at first slightly wary of the Affected kid. He didn't understand why the younger was unable to do many things, and was unnerved by Tiger's uncanny intelligence. He was very smart for a kid, and was growing to know more and more by the day. At his mother's encouragement, Ia eventually tried to get to know his brother, and ended up being fast friends with him. In time, he had taken on most of the responsibility of caring for Tiger, and was closer to the tiny ram than he had ever been with Ali.
By the time Tiger himself was almost a yearling, and Ia an adult; the older brother had vowed to care for Tiger until the end.
They loved each other. Tiger was Ia's world, and had taught the older ram to look past his own nose. There was a whole world out there, and Ia was beginning to finally see it.
It was an unfortunate series of events that had ruined things for them. The Prime had recently died from a particuarly bad rattlesnake bite, and the Prince, a strong but incompetent ram, had taken command. He had chosen an equally incompetent ram for his own Prince. When drought and dust storms began to hit the area of their herd's territory, neither had any clue as to what to do. After several weeks of trying to survive through dehydration and blindness, they gave up, and decided to seek refuge with another neighboring herd that they were on good terms with.
In the sandy, rushed confusion of it all; Ia lost track of his little brother. The Prime couldn't be bothered to go back to search for the little ram, and Ia was forced to leave him behind. Only once they had reached calm sands did he realize that Ali was gone as well, along with several others of the herd.
He wouldn't learn that the doe had found and taken in Tiger until countless moons later.
The other herd, located in an area with much more foliage and much less sand, was thankfully hospitable to the tattered and exhausted Goennecs that still remained. Iapetus was welcomed by a tall dusky ram named Roe, and later introduced to a small and Affected doe called Claire who reminded him painfully but wonderfully of his lost brother.
Now, Iapetus has reached his eighth year of age, and is strong and fast and smart and in his prime. He in inseparable from Roe, and dotes upon Claire as if she is his own daughter.
He has a new life, but he has not forgotten his old one, or his brother and his tan and blue friend. He likes to dream that someday he'll encounter them again, and knows that if he does, he won't be separated from them ever again.
Until then, however, he won't forget the things he learned from Tiger, and will continue to live in a way that he hopes his brother would be happy with and proud of him for.
