Name You'd Choose for It:Piper
Nickname:Pip
Gender: Female
Reason You Want It:Well, first off, she's completely gorgeous. I love her colours so much, and the small designs just add even more to her. She's not simple, but she's also not very detailed/elaborate, which I really like about her.
Also, she just seems like she'd be such a happy, care free and innocent character which would be a nice change from what I normally think/write about. For her I'd be able to write more upbeat stories, which I think I would quite enjoy, and I can see her fitting in quite well with my fox characters Kartik, Cameo, Quinn, Aster and Ashe, and later some other characters I have ideas for.
About HerIf one who didn't know Piper well wanted to describe her with five words they might use such things as juvenile, kind, innocent, gullible, and care free. Most of that is true, of course, but she's much smarter than they would make her out to be. Being raised by foxes has left her able to pick up on most lies, with the exception of other foxes. It's also made a rather convincing liar out of her, but she's also learned that too many lies can get her into a bit of a tangled mess so she saves the lying for times when it's necessary. She's still more wolf than fox though, finding that she doesn't much like being alone and is very social. She makes friends when she can, but most are foxes as she is still nervous about meeting other wolves. She's more of a glass half-full kind of girl and prefers to look at the positive of any situation.
BackgroundPiper spent the first couple months of her life in a pack where she was raised and adored by her mother and father as the only surviving pup in a litter of three and watched by the other wolves. Shortly after her second month of life, she was whisked away farther into the forest by her mother. Tucked away in a small earthen den, she watched and waited for her mother's return.
Hours would pass before anyone found her.
Piper had been sleeping when the sound of movement close to her caught her attention. It wasn't her mother that she looked up at, but instead found herself looking into the face of a stranger. A fox, no less. Two more foxes then joined the first.
While she ate food supplied by them, they told her about how her pack - and parents - had been killed by a bordering pack. The news was shocking and heart-breaking for her and the next day seemed to pass in a blur leaving her without much memory of those events.
What she does remember is being taken in by those three foxes and becoming what could only be described as a family. However odd it was with three foxes and a wolf.
A Bit of her Story:Piper moved quickly and easily over the ground, carrying several prey pieces with her. She was proud of herself, it was easily her most successful hunt as of yet with two rabbits and a pheasant. It was also one of few times when she wasn't accompanied by one of her family.
"Piper, is that you?" a voice called from somewhere to her right.
She stopped dead in her tracks to look in the direction of the voice. When she saw Aster sprawled across the ground with his head barely up to look at her, she dropped her catch to collect later and rushed towards him.
"Are you okay?" she asked, looking down at the red-furred fox. She couldn't yet see anything physically wrong with him, but the way he just laid there worried her.
"Quite fine, actually, thank you for asking," Aster replied, returning to his paws quite easily. His sharp eyes looked beyond her for only a brief moment, barely long enough for her to notice.
"You had me worried," Piper complained, a pouty look crossing her face.
"Ah, well, sorry about that m'dear, truly I am. I thought I had a bout of the stomache ache coming on but I was mistaken. I ate an old crow earlier and it didn't settle well, you see." Aster looked up at her, an apologetic look on his face, though his gaze flicked behind her again. Before she could say anything he cut in, "Well, I'd best be going, you know how Ashe is when I'm late. 'Bye, Piper,"
Piper watched him go, feeling oddly confused and knowing that he wouldn't have heard her goodbye. She turned around and headed back to the path where she'd left the prey. When she arrived, however, there was nothing to be seen. Her prey was gone and the sharp scent of a different fox lingered in the air. Ashe.
The two of them had tricked her. Again.
Cameo would not be happy.
With head bowed and tail hanging low, she trudged back to the tiny clearing where the foxes had dug out an old rabbit warren to make it larger. Outside of the tunnel opening were both Kartik and Cameo. Both watched her as she walked over, empty-pawed and looking dejected. They knew without asking what had happened. It wasn't the first time and wouldn't be the last.
"Again? Really?" Cameo growled, already risen to his paws. "I swear you're about as smart as a woodmouse sometimes," he added, his voice a low growl that she almost couldn't hear.
Piper watched him stalk past her, tail lashing, and disappear down the path she'd just come down. Probably to catch new prey. Possibly to find Ashe and Aster and teach them not to steal from his family. Maybe even both if he was in a foul enough mood.
Her gaze found Kartik, who looked mostly amused to see that she'd been tricked again. He nodded towards the spot that Cameo had just vacated beside him and she sat down there, not meeting his gaze.
"Ignore him, Pip, he's more mad at the twins then he is at you anyways," Kartik informed her, his voice a friendly and comforting mix of a growl and bark.
Behind them came the soft sound of paws on the well-worn path down into the den. Quinn appeared a moment later, a nowing look to her eyes.
"That furball needs to learn to control his temper," she said fondly. She reached up, almost having to stand up on her hindlegs, to lick the fur between Piper's ears. "It's not as if they've never tricked him before anyways."
Already Piper's mood was rising again. It was hard to stay sad or frustrated around Kartik and Quinn, no matter how hard one tried. Well, unless they were Cameo.
"I know," Piper muttered, voice soft, "But I'm still sorry, I should've known better."
I understand that by adopting this creature I take full responsibility for it.
