Desired Somnei: #2
New Somnei name: Aardhe
Reason for wanting one: These are a really cool species and something I can really relate to; I've had issues my whole life being unable to get to sleep and being afraid of the dark, and I always liked to make up monsters to keep me safe and chase away anything bad, and this species is exactly that.
What will it be used for? I'll probably draw it a lot, imagine it standing watch when I'm trying to get to sleep every now and then.. xD
Describe your new Somnei: A rather calm, carefree Somnei, Aardhe prefers to spend time in good dreams, making sure they don't turn sour. Being young itself, it relates well to children, being young itself. Aardhe gets a huge kick out of letting young children catch a glimpse of it when they awake, just before it disappears. It loves the look of awe and amazement they get on their face, and might even admit to letting loose a giggle as it departs.
Write a short story for your Somnei: She was flying. Her little arms were stretched out, and the wind blew her hair back behind her. A smile stretched wide across her face as she looked down at the treetops below her, and at the mountains on all sides. It was truly a remarkable view. The young child pulled her elbows in, and dove down towards the ground, pulling up and weaving through the tree branches at the very last minute. She was having the time of her life.
That was how most of this particular human child's dreams went, and the young Somnei found it rather enjoyed watching them. It was perched high up on a cloud out of sight-- this was a dream, after all, and Aardhe could sit on a cloud if it pleased. It flicked its tail complacently, much like a cat would. It was a warm summer day in this dream, with a mild breeze. The child's dreams never took place in the winter. That was another thing that pleased the Somnei; Aardhe despised the cold. Yes, this human's dreams were rather ideal as far as Aardhe was concerned... and at that moment, it decided it may even stick around. It had grown rather fond of the child, watching her soar on the air currents with uncontained joy.
As the young girl began to wake, the Somnei withdrew from the dream, and leapt up from her bedroom floor onto the mattress, prowling over to her pillow with delicate paws. The girl stirred, and rolled over onto her back. Aardhe leaned its face close to hers, and the girl, sensing its presence, opened her sleepy eyes. They grew wide as she glimpsed the creature, and she rubbed them, sitting straight up in bed to get a better look. But before she could open them again, Aardhe had leapt backwards and disappeared through the walls with a purr. It peeked through the window, watching the girl's awed expression as she gazed around her room. Finally, she yawned wide, and laid her head back down on her pillow as she closed her eyes and returned to sleep.
