how did it become a rainbow(story):
There once was a hamster named Skittles who lived in a pet-shop cage, all alone, because all the other hamsters had been bought. She was named Skittles, because, well, she absolutely LOVED to eat the candy she was named after. One day, she saw a commercial for skittles on the TV in the pets shop that she could see if she peeked through the bars of the cage.
Announcer: "Skittles, taste the rainbow".
At this, Skittles perked up her ears, thinking they were telling her to actually taste a rainbow. So, Skittles built a miniature airplane with woodchips and straw in her cage. She covered it with newspaper for aerodynamics and decided to try and fly it when the pet-shop keeper opened up her cage to give her food. Little did Skittles know that she needed an engine for the plane to actually work. She tried to push it to get it going but it was just too heavy. Sighing, Skittles gave up for today and accepted her failure...for this design atleast.
The next day, Skittles drew up a plan for a helicopter that she had seen on TV, but this time, she would use her little hamster-wheel for the rotors and hopefully she could get it to spin fast enough when placed on its side to get enough lift to escape from her 30 x 40 inch prison. When the pet-keeper opened the top of the cage, Skittles hopped into her hamster-wheel heli and started to run as fast as she could to get the blades moving. Alas, it was too heavy barely got an inch off the ground.
"Why can't it just work!" Skittles moaned in frustration, kicking her inventions aside in anger. "I just want to be free! I want to taste the rainbow, it's my destiny! The magic box [TV] said so!" Skittles squeaked.
With all her squeaking and mumbling, one of the parrots in a nearby cage listened to what she was saying, and took pity on the little rodent who was never destined to fly. "I'll help" the parrot squacked simply. Skittles turned her head and gasped. Why hadn't she thought of this before!, she chided herself. "Oh thank you so much! I am forever in our debt...but, how in the world could we both get out of these horrid cages?"
The parrot thought for a moment, then raised a talon and seemed to be drawing an invisible plan in the air. "If i time it right, while they put in my food, i can fly out and open the latch on your cage. They will probably put me back in my cage before we can fly away, but i don't think they'll notice that i opened the roof of your cage a bit. Then, at the same time tomorrow, they will bring me my food and i can escape again. I need you to climb up to the top of the cage and just flip open the hatch so i can fly in easily. Think that'd work?"
"Brilliant!" Skittles exclaimed.
The next 2 nights they acted the plan and on the second night, the kind parrot flew off with Skittles grasped in her feet. "So, uh, where are we going exactly?" the parrot who had told Skittles to call her Tulip (which Skittles thought was odd because she didn't have ANY lips, nonetheless two...) asked. "First, we go buy some me." Skittles said simply. "Umm...what?" Tulip said glancing down at Skittles with confused eyes.
"We go buy some Skittles, duh!"
"Oh...right...and then what?"
"Hmm...well, then i just want to fly around for a while, then maybe we can find a place to stay."
"Okay, so basically, we don't have a plan?"
"The plan is to go with the flow."
"Thanks. That's real specific, Skittles."
So Skittles and Tulip flew around the city for a while, staying clear of the pet-shop they had once been imprisoned in. Skittles ate herself (well, not really, but she kept saying that. Tulip just decided she was cray-cray).
As the day went on and the last rays of sunlight poured onto the city, making long shadows on the side-walk, ominous clouds started to roll into the sky and caused a light rain to splatter onto the concrete. "Permission to land requested." Tulip said in her best fake-pilot voice. "Permission granted" Skittles said through a mouthful of...herself.
Tulip began to fly down, but as she got closer to the city, Skittles yelped and pointed a minuscule finger at the sky. There stretched a beautiful rainbow, with all the colors glowing vibrantly in the last gleams of daylight. "Fly through it!" Skittles commanded as she popped a green skittle into her mouth, her cheeks full of all the flavors of the candy. Tulip did as she was asked and flew through the rainbow. As she passed through, she felt the bundle in her talons (Skittles) grow warmer and warmer, like the warm rays shining down on your back on a cold winter's day. She looked down and saw her friend glowing with all the colors of the rainbow bursting from her, illuminating the area around her, shining brighter than any rainbow ever seen. "Woah." was all Tulip could say as she looked down at her friend who was grinning madly. "I knew it would work! Skittles ARE magical!"
And that's the story of Skittles the rainbow hamster. THE END
...okay, so i know it's not very realistic, but i had a craving for Skittles when i wrote this XD
