Savannah moved silently through the tall grass, keeping her eyes on a plump mouse infront of her. Her paws glided on the ground without ruffling a single grass stem, one more step, she held her breath preparing to leap. Suddenly, an alarm called sounded as a startled bird flew out of the field
"Darn!" the mouse was gone. Savannah stood up, angrilly sheathing and unsheathing her claws. It was autumn and all the prey was hiding in burrows and the usually preyfull grasslands were now bare of prey. Savannah headed back to her cave collecting the two mice she caught earlier but something was wrong. The mice were gone and the ground was covered wih blood and shredded mouse fur. Bare bones were scattered around and something else, a scent which hung over the killed prey reminded Savannah of something. Her thoughts were interrupted by a low growl which filled the air making Savannah's spine bristle because she new the sound just too well, bear.
She would stand no chance against a creature that big, she would have easily hidden as she did before if she was in a forest but there was nowhere to hide in the grassy plains which stretched for miles. Holding her breath, she made a step backward fighting the urge to run when she was too slow for the bear. CRACK! Savannah squinted as she stepped on a twig, the growling stopped, it turned to huffs and puffs as the bear slowly headed towards her lifting his mighty head in an effort to look over the tall grass stems. Savannah, trembling all over, froze in place. Suddenly, the bear stood up on his hind legs letting out a victorious roar as he spotted Savannah, no choice now, she will have to fight. Baring her teeth, she leaped onto the bear's back but the bear threw her off without much effort. She tried again but it was no use, the bear was just playing with his prey and earlier or later, he will kill her. Struggling from the bear's grip, she dashed through the field, the bear on her heels. Suddenly, her vision went blurry and the only sound she could hear was her heartbeat, exhausted, she collapsed to the ground to see the bear closing in on her hungrilly.
This is it she thought
my death has arrived she thought as she got ready for the bear's claws to rip her apart. Suddenly, a loud growl split the air and she turned her head to see someone jumping on the bear's back before she went unconsious.
Savannah opened her eyes to see an unfamiliar drolf watching her curiously. His muscles rippled under his pelt which glowed a golden color under the sun's rays
"you awoke!" he exclaimed. ashamed, she realised that she was staring at him
As she heaved herself up, the newcomer helped her before she could fall down again, Savannah felt her cheeks turn red
"My name is Autumn" he said "What's yours?"
"Savannah" she said "Er.. thanks for saving me...how did you ever manage to fight off that bear?!"
"Ahh that's nothin" he shrugged "second time now"
Savannah noticed a deep scar sliced across his face. That must have been his last encounter with the bear, but she did not dare to ask.
Savannah and Autumn stayed together for more than a week and grew cloe to each other until one morning,
"I have to leave" Autumn nudged Savannah to wake her up
"what?" Savannah asked, waking up "what do you mean?"
"I'm leaving, i never stay in one place" he said and then added bitterly "I'm going alone"
"But what about me?" Savannah gasped
"Too dangerous. We will meet again, I promise" And with that, he turned and ran, vanishing into the woods before Savannah could object. Tears formed on Savannah's eyes, falling and soaking into the earth beneath it
"Goodbye" she whicpered "Goodbye, Autumn"
With that, she closed her eyes and put her head down on her paws, vowing that one day she will find him and they will be together again
