Waffle, a stray PS often found rummaging through the dinner's garbage. He has gotten his name for two reasons. One, his favorite snack to find is waffles, preferably those drowned in sweet, maple syrup. Over time, Waffles was getting more well known, and people decided to give the crazy squirrel a name. A little girl pointed out that he looked like a waffle, as he was eating a waffle she made the connection. Ever since then, he was known as Waffle, the stray PS, until one day, when a random civilian picked up the very friendly, used to people PS, and brought him to the pound. Ever since then, he has been sitting, lonely, in that 5th cage next to all the other PS's looking for a forever home, until today. The pound doors opened wide, and in trampled loads of people, looking just for the perfect PS!
⋙✮ Story ✮⋘
A small, orange PS sat quietly in the pound. The sun hadn't risen yet, but he could sense this was a special day from the beginning. Unable to see the squirrels next to him, he hoped today would be the day. That today, the man could walk into the pound, and flip around that "open, closed" sign to open, and turn the lights on inside. And that when the people came flooding in to see the pound squirrels, that he would be picked; hopefully, there would not be more squirrels than adopters, and he would find his forever home. So he sat, patiently, until that gleaming sun's rays shone into the shop, and until the door opened wide with the humans running in. Today was the day. All of a sudden, time seemed to speed up. The sun had already risen, and the man running the pound walked in. The large, dusty glass door opened wide, letting in a large gust of freezing wind into the small pound room. He dropped his bags behind the desk, and glared at the cages, right at the orange PS. The large man took a few steps over towards his cage, and stuck his finger through the wholes in the bars. "Heya Waffle, today is the day," he whispered to the PS. Waffle sat impatiently with a huge grin on his face, and when the man took back hi s finger, he ran around a few times in circles in his cage, before sitting himself down and waiting anxiously. The man trudged towards the door, and flipped the small plastic sign to read "open." Within minuets, loads of PS owners flooded into the pound. With a huge grin on his face, Waffle sat and waited. One girl ran right towards him with her hands out wide, only for him to be disappointed when she reached for the cage above him. Next, two boys walked over and snagged the two squirrels on each side of him. A long, gentle sigh came out of Waffle's mouth, and he forced a grin, despite the sadness controlling him. One by one, happy, chattering squirrels snuggled into their new loving owner's arms. Soon, Waffle found himself in the dark corner of his lonely, cold cage, alone. The place was empty. All of a sudden, a small foot step like sound came towards Waffle; then, it stopped. Slowly, Waffle picked up his head, and their eyes met. A girl with a huge grin on her face reached out her hand, and placed it against that bears of the cage for him to sniff. Waffle quickly shuffled to his feet and skipped to the gentle, loving hand. He reached his paw out of the cage to touch her, and she laughed. She turned her head to the small bag she was carrying on her shoulder. All of a sudden, Waffle's face lit up, his eyes big and mouth watering: she had pulled out a small piece of waffle drowned in syrup, the good kind. "I heard you liked Waffles," she laughed. She placed the tiny piece into his cage, and he cherished the delightful taste, t reminded him of home, of freedom, and happiness. Carefully, the girl unlocked the 5th cage, and pulled out the happy PS. "Hey buddy," She whispered to him as she cradled him in her arms. "We're going to be great friends." She whispered to him, and they have been, ever since.

A lonely creature sat staring,
Nobody in it's life was caring.
Neither friend nor companion,
Nobody to show it compassion.
Isolated from the world,
With nowhere to hide
No home, no comfort,
No happiness inside.
But one day things changed,
And one single soul
Cared enough to save it,
And make it's life whole.
What began as a reject,
A creature so strange
Had found it's true purpose;
The world it would change.
