The arctic fox lives in some of the most frigid extremes on the planet but does not start to shiver until the temperature drops to −70 °C (−94 °F). Among its adaptations for survival in the cold is its dense, multi-layered, pelage which provides excellent insulation,[4][5] a system of counter-current heat exchange in the circulation within the paws to retain core temperature, and a good supply of body fat. The fox has a low surface area to volume ratio, as evidenced by its generally compact body shape, short muzzle and legs, and short, thick ears. Since less of its surface area is exposed to the arctic cold, less heat escapes from the body. Its paws have fur on the soles for additional insulation and this helps it to walk on ice. The arctic fox has such keen hearing that it can determine exactly where a small animal is moving under the snow. When it has located its prey, it pounces and punches through the snow to catch its victim. Its fur changes color with the seasons: in most populations it is white in the winter to blend in with snow, while in the summer it is grayish-brown or darker brown. In some populations however it is a steely bluish-gray in the winter and a paler bluish-gray in summer.[4][6]

Arctic foxes do not hibernate and are active all year round. They build up their fat reserves in the autumn, sometimes increasing their body-weight by more than 50%. This provides greater insulation during the winter and a source of energy when food is scarce. They live in large dens in frost-free, slightly raised ground. These are complex systems of tunnels covering as much as 1,000 m2 (1,200 sq yd) and are often in eskers, long ridges of sedimentary material deposited in formerly glaciated regions. They have multiple entrances, and may have been in existence for many decades, and used by many generations of foxes.[7]

Arctic foxes tend to form monogamous pairs in the breeding season, and maintain a territory around the den. Breeding usually takes place in April and May, and the gestation period is about 52 days. Litters tend to average five to eight kits, but exceptionally contain as many as twenty-five (the largest litter size in the order Carnivora).[8] Both the mother and father help to raise the young, which emerge from the den when three to four weeks old, and are weaned by nine weeks of age.[7]

Size/weight
The average head-and-body length of the male is 55 cm (22 in), with a range of 46 to 68 cm (18 to 27 in), while the female averages 52 cm (20 in) with a range of 41 to 55 cm (16 to 22 in).[11][4] The tail is about 30 cm (12 in) long in both sexes. The height at the shoulder is 25 to 30 cm (9.8 to 11.8 in).[12] On average males weigh 3.5 kg (7.7 lb), with a range of 3.2 to 9.4 kg (7.1 to 20.7 lb), while females average 2.9 kg (6.4 lb), with a range of 1.4 to 3.2 kg (3.1 to 7.1 lb).[4]

Diet:
Arctic foxes will generally eat any small animal they can find including lemmings, voles, other rodents, hares, birds, eggs and carrion. They scavenge on carcasses left by larger predators, such as wolves and polar bears, and in times of scarcity even eat their feces. In areas where they are present, lemmings are their most common prey,[7] and a family of foxes can eat dozens of lemmings each day. During April and May, the arctic fox also preys on ringed seal pups, when the young animals are confined to a snow den, and are relatively helpless. Fish beneath the ice are also part of the diet, and they also consume berries and seaweed, and may thus be considered omnivores.[9] This fox is a significant bird egg predator, excepting those of the largest tundra bird species.[10] If there is an overabundance of food, the arctic fox will bury the surplus as a reserve.

Colors: Sliver, ocean blue, and mint green. Reasons: These colors are very common in the forest where she lives. They are also pleasing to the eye.
Seasons: Spring, summer and fall. Reasons: She loves to see the flowers bloom in the spring, and butterflies are normally everywhere you look. Summer is mostly good, she dislikes the very hot days, but she loves to swim in the river in the summertime.
Month: "You want to know my favorite month? Well, I don't even know what a month is, but I love the time of the year, when all of the flowers bloom in the forest. There always so many butterflies flying around the forest then."

Weather: "My favorite weather? Rain and snow." Rain and snow. Reason: She loves rain, the sound of falling rain helps her sleep. And she loves it especially when it drizzles, since it tickles her belly through her thick fur. Since she has much thick fur, the chill of snowy weather doesn't bother her at all, in fact she loves it! She'll romp through the deep snow joyfully, and roll down hills in the wintertime with her raven right behind her.
Time of Day: Midnight. Reason: She loves it, because that is when the stars and the moon are at their brightest. This time is also easiest to see the northern nights as they ripple across the sky, high above the Canadian forest, which is where she lives.

Insect: Butterflies. Reason: She loves butterflies, their beauty, their varying colors and sizes, and how they flutter gracefully through the sky. She secretly wishes she could fly like them, so she could see the world, that is beyond the boundaries of the Canadian forest. She wants to see what lies beyond thew forest, of which she calls her home.
Reptile(s): Lizards.
Mammal(s): Hares.
Marine Mammal(s): Dolphins. Reason: She loves dolphins, their cries, and she especially loves to watch them swim from the safety of the sea shore.
Bird(s): Ravens. Reason: She loves their playful personalities. She saved one once when it fell out of a nest, and broke it's wing when it was a chick. Since then, this raven has trusted her, and he follows her everywhere she goes.

Dislikes:
Colors: Neon pink, neon orange, and blood red. Reason: These colors are unpleasing to the eye, in fact they hurt her eyes to look at neon pink or neon orange. Blood red, well she only sees this color when someone is hurt, and so, of course she doesn't like this color.
Seasons: Winter.
Weather: Very hot and humid weather. Reason: Well, this is pretty obvious. Her long thick fur coat isn't made for very hot and humid weather. It is made to keep her warm in temperatures that can drop to minus 70° Fahrenheit.
Time of Day: Noon. Reason: It's normally too hot and humid to do anything fun in the summertime. Otherwise she doesn't really mind this time of day.

The minute that this lovely girl was donated, I fell instantly in love with her. I mean, how could you not? qvq. Those stunning and mesmerizing sky blue eyes, that marbled sliver/gray and white coat of fur. I knew that I just had to try for her, I mean I don't have a arctic fox character of any sort. If I do win , she would be a great addition to my character family. And she would have her own post in my character thread (the link to it: is in my signature.): which would be filled with stories, art, even comics about her, if I am lucky enough to win her. :3 I know this isn't the longest, but it is filled with the genuine reasons of why I want her. o3o.

Name You'd Choose for It: Lion Heart

Reason You Want It:
First of all, I love Huskys. And when I saw this pic of him, I immediatly fell in love. Well but this is not the only reason. I fell for his name too. Lion Heart is such a lovely name for a strong character. One that is trying to protect others. And I really love lions... Yeah... I got kind of crazy about him^^
I would love to use him as a guard for my Thunders Pride Stables, and maybe in some roleplays.
History/Background/Other:
Lion Heart was born in Greenland. He lived with the Inuit in his first years. This is also where he got that necklace from. A little girl, who always brought him his food gave it to him once. "So we will always recognise each other, Kiviuq.", she said to him. Kiviuq was the name she had given him at birth.
When he was two years old, the girls father took the dog with him. He wanted to go on a seal hunt. Lion Heart liked him as much as he liked the little girl, and follwed without doubts. The took a small boat to where the hunting grounds where, when a slight wind started to blow some snowflakes around their head. They where still on this boat, when this little wind became a storm. A group of whales got paniced, and one of them hit the boat. It turned upside down. The men on it where in panic too, and tried to stay close to the boat and not get hit by the whales. Lion Heart tried to stay with them, but he had no chance. He was taken away by the sea current and the whales.
When the situation calmed down, he was far away from land and the boat. Surrounded by nothing but water, he started to swim for his life. When he had no more strength to swim any longer, a fisher bout crossed his way. One of the fisher men pulled him out of the water, gave him food and water and wrapped him in a blanket to keep him warm. All of the people on board cared for him, and always said that he was such a strong dog. Surviving in the sea, so far away from land. They brought him to Iceland where Lion Heart ran away to search for his girl. He nearly came across the whole island. Of course without success.
When he came back to the town where the fishermen brought him, he met the guy who pulled him out of water. "Not a dog who likes staying in place huh?", he asked and smiled. Lion Heart only wanted to get away from Iceland again, and followed the man on his boat. But well, it didnt go to Greenland, it took him to Europe.
He again left the fisherman and started to search for his girl. Again, with no success. But another young woman found him. She looked strange with her pointed ears. He felt somehow comfortable arround her, so he decided to just stay with her a little while.
By accident they met the fisherman again. "Ah, so he is with you now.", he laughed, "dont get used to have him around. I mean this guy has the heart of a lion, but he doesnt stay in one place very long." Then he turned around and went away.
"The heart of a lion hm? Well then, Ill call you Lion Heart. My name is Eleya by the way. You can stay with me if you want to.", the young woman said.

The first time I set sight on this beauty, I knew I had to try out for her the moment she was put up in the kennels. This sweetheart caught my eye, what with her pale grey and blue color scheme and gorgeous purple eyes. She looks so refined and pretty - I'd love to make this lovely girl mine. She looks almost dainty, but like there's a fire behind her eyes. I already have plans for what I'll do with this sweetie, and can promise you that she'll be a beloved character of mine for quite some time.
I'd put her on my Weebly character site as well as use her as a character here on CS, getting art of her and perhaps writing more stories about her.

Because she was abandoned from a young age, Neomonni has always been independent. Forced to fend for herself over years of hardship, she may seem overly-determined to some, but she honestly doesn't care what they think.
