My username is Charchar2. Pronounced 'shar-shar-too'. Feel free to call me Char or Charchar. <3

. k e n n e l . n u m b e r .

Lonestar's current home is kennel 194. n____________n

. n a m e .

Lonestar's name is, well, Lonestar, given to him by his previous owner. I think it's a lovely, perfect name, and I have no wish at all to change it. C:

. g e n d e r .

Oh, Lonestar's definitely a boy. I'm not sure exactly why I feel so strongly about this, but I really think he's male. I just can't picture him as being a girl.

. s p e c i e s .

Lonestar is a feral cat; he is of a similar species to the domestic house cat, because his great-great-great-great grandparents were house cats that escaped and adapted to the forest. At this point, though, the house cat blood is so far back that he is not even aware that he is even distantly related to domestic cats. He has entirely adapted to forest life.

His house-cat ancestors were Aegan cats, and he is surprisingly similar, at least in a appearance, to this species, the only main difference being that his eyes are not a shade of green.

The coat of an Aegean Cat is semi-longhaired, without down hair, with a moderate ruff and a rich tail. The Aegean Cat's coat provides good protection during the harsh winter weather and sheds out short for the summer. The coat is bicolor or tricolor; one of the colors is always white, without signs of yellowing and takes up between 1/3 to 2/3 of the body. Other colors can be black, red, blue, cream, with or without stripes. The Aegean Cat is a medium-size breed, with a sturdy and muscular build, without signs of obesity. The body is long, with strong, medium-size feet and round-shaped paws. The tail is moderately long, straight, without kinks. The head is medium-size, wide but not round. The ears have a wide base and rounded tips and are covered by hairs. The eyes have an oriental shape and their color can be any shade of green.

. a g e .

Lonestar is about 15, in human years at least.

. b i r t h d a y .

Lonestar's birthday is January 8th.

. a p p e a r a n c e .

Muscular, with short, snowy white fur. Black diamond on forehead; vertically placed. Black nose. Black ear tips, paw tips, and tail tip. Most noticeable feature; purple eyes, deep and haunted in appearance.

. p e r s o n a l i t y .

|-quiet-|-gentlemanly-|-haunted-|

Lonestar is very quiet most of the time, at least, before you get to know him. He's often lost in thought, gazing off into the distance, thinking about the life he's led. Once he really gets to know you, he'll start to open up; but he's never quite so open as a normal forest cat. He talks regularly to his friends, but no matter what the conversation, you can always hear a little bit of sadness in his voice; just little bit that latched onto his heart and never let go.

He's also very polite, refined, though not in a snobbish way. He has careful manners, never forgetting to say 'please' or 'thank you'. He's quite gentlemanly, always letting ladies first and offering polite greetings. It gives him pleasure to see people happy, and so he always does his best to please others.

Haunted...yes, indeed, looking into Lonestar's eyes you will see a deep pain, surrounded by shadows. A harsh pain within him, burning at him all the time. He is silent for hours on end, looking into the sky, remembering things no one should have to remember. Filled to brim with sorrow; mysterious and hurt.

. h i s t o r y .

This story is still a work in progress.
I am extremely sorry if I am unable to finish it by the code-drop, but if I win him I will finish it <3

When our story begins, Lonestar is young. So young, in fact, that he doesn’t even have a name …
“Come on out! Look at this!” Lonestar heard his father’s enthusiastic cry piercing the warm spring evening air. He sighed and curled back up into a tight ball, his amethyst eyes still shut. He didn’t want to wake up; a day of playing and romping with his beloved elder brother, Tag, had exhausted him. He felt a puff of cold air as his mother and brother left the warm, dark den to go see the source of his father’s excitement.

“Wow!” Tag exclaimed. His mother murmured in agreement. Sleepy though Lonestar was, he was immensely curious, too. He couldn’t help but open his eyes, and, blinking sleepily, crawl towards the opening of the den to see what they were all talking about. His family’s backs were to him; they were looking up at an immense, golden shape, dramatically silhouetted against the fuzzy pink sunset in the sky. “Wow,” he echoed, staring at what he now knows was a bulldozer. “What does it do?”

His family, enthralled in the glorious sight, seemed to take no notice of his question. Then his father spoke. “Well, let’s go see!” His mother and brother seemed to nod in assent, but Lonestar wasn’t so sure. “What if it’s dangerous?” he asked, his black-tipped tail swishing nervously. Curious as he was, he had his cautious moments too. But his father just laughed, shaking his golden brown head. “Of course not. What could it do, anyway?” Lonestar could think of lots and lots of awful things that the beautiful but sinister gold creature could do. But he just sighed and shook his head; there was no use arguing with his father when he was excited about something.

“Fine, but I don’t want to go,” he said stubbornly, frowning. He hoped he might be able to convince his mother – and maybe Tag, too! – to stay home with him, even if his father wanted to go check out the bulldozer. But a glance at his brother shining blue eyes and his mother’s cautiously excited burgundy ones told him that there was no way he’d be able to get them to back out now. He let out a disgruntled “hmmph!” and stalked back into the den.

His father just shrugged, and so the little company set off to investigate this new curiosity in their woods. They padded through the forest for a little way, the newly fallen leaves crunching quietly under their paws like whispers. As soon as Lonestar was sure they couldn’t see him anymore, he darted out of the den and ran to a nearby tree. He dug his needle-sharp kitten claws into the bark and scrambled clumsily up – something he had always been able to do that Tag could not, giving him a huge advantage in chasing games. He climbed a little higher and then found a slightly precarious branch from which he could view his family’s adventure. He settled into a comfortable little fork in the wood and waited for something to happen.

His family had reached the golden creature now. He saw his father sniffing it curiously, and Tag rushed forward and climbed a little ways upon it. His mother, he could tell, was upset; he could see her talking chidingly to Tag, but he couldn’t hear her words. Everything seemed okay, though, other than that; and he could almost convince himself that the nervous feeling he felt about the golden intruder was nothing at all but a product of his imagination. Almost.

Still, the warm air was soothing, and the gentle breeze rocked his tree branch cradle. He found himself fighting to keep awake. Very soon, the little black and white kitten who simply wanted to protect his family was sound asleep.

Lonestar was awoken by a loud, frightening buzzing noise. He nearly fell out of the tree before remembering where he was and carefully remaining still until the tree branch stopped shaking. Immediately, he looked at where he remembered the golden monster being. It was still their; his family was crawling around in front of it, inspecting every angle. He sighed. Sometimes he thought he’d never understand where he belonged in his crazy family of learning-obsessed felines. He had no doubt they were coming up with all sorts of hypotheses of the golden machine’s use.

Then, to his horror, he noticed a human getting into the machine. His family, senses dulled by the loud noise, didn’t seem to notice at all and were gathered right in front of it, chatting happily. Adrenaline racing, fear filling his heart, Lonestar leapt gracefully onto the ground and began to run. Just as he reached the edge of the clearing, though, his mouth open to cry out to his family, the machine began to move. Yes, it moved, and remarkable quickly too.

Lonestar winced, turning against the pain, the screams, blocking it all out, purple eyes clouded with tears. The machine stopped, but it was too late. It was done. The human jumped out, seeming horrified as it realized what it had done. It turned slowly in a circle and its eyes lit upon the small kitten standing despairingly at the edge of the forest. “Oh no,” it said quietly. Gently, it reached its hand out towards the little cat. “It’s okay … it’ll be okay,” it murmured soothingly.

Lonestar stared in disbelief at the outstretched hand. “You killed my family,” he hissed through an onslaught of tears. He knew the horrid human couldn’t understand him but he didn’t care. When the human reached even further towards him, his anger bubbled over. “No!” he yelled, filled with rage. He sunk his tiny but sharp little teeth into the human’s hand, then turned and raced into the trees, his vision blurred with tears, not caring where he was going as long as it was away, away, away.

Angel

Gender wrote:

Species wrote:

Personality wrote:
Angel is sweet, sweeter than a lot of dogs in her pack. She is sweet, caring, and loving. She always has a soft spot for her friends and family. Her sweetness comes in handy when socializing with her master and others, her caring is always dependable and she is very independent and strong. She is also extremely hardcore when it comes to defending her friends and pack. This characteristic comes in handy during battle or hunting.

History/Background wrote:
Angel was born in the summer along with her 4 siblings, Larka, Kia, Recha, and Elch. Angel was actually the smallest pup out of the litter and always had to fight hard for food and a spot next to her mother, Juna. This was Juna's second litter of pups and always tried to stick up for Angel. Angel looked up to her older, stronger siblings but never met their standards. Often, whenever the played, Angel would jump in only to be pushed out of the games and often excluded from a lot of things. Rarely their father, Olecha, would take the pups out for hunting lessons but Angel was never strong enough to keep up with the group, she would stay behind dreaming that she could go with them.

A few weeks after the began hunting, Olecha came for the pups for a fighting lesson, Angel thought that she was finally strong enough and decided to go along. The other pups snickered and glared at her as she nudged her father for approval to go, he nodded and trotted of to the fighting clearing. Her siblings struggled to keep up with his path through the forest but Angel, in the time her siblings had learned how to hunt, had been exploring and knew a path to the clearing and had no trouble keeping up.

She and Olecha finally reached the clearing and waited for the others, Olecha sat down and opened is huge, black wings. Angel stared in awe at the as the sun glittered around them. Thats when she noticed she had them too, just smaller and white with black tipped feathers. She moved this part of he body for the first time and started to trot in small circles. Eventually falling she looked to her father who was giggling at the small pup. He licked her ear and started to walk toward the forest right as her siblings came into the clearing. She had noticed the all her brothers and sisters had wings too.

Olecha had lined up the pups and told them to give the practice all our energy. Angel wagged her tail and watched her father nudge Kia to the center followed by Recha. Recha looked at Olecha in concussion but Kia pounced on her, he pinned her to the ground but in an instant Recha was kicking Kia's massive body off of herself. Slowly Recha got back to her feet and head butted Kia's large chest pushing him to the ground, she pinned his shoulder and back legs to the ground. Suddenly Olecha barked and Recha, stunned, jumped off of Kia, Recha got pushed to the side while Kia got pushed back to the pups.

Angel's feeling of confidence was slipping away as he nudged Elch and Larka forward. Angel swallowed hard as she saw the two go at each other with all they had, Elch went strait for Larka's tail and bit down hard. Her instant reaction was to kick, and with all her power, kicked his chest, it sent Elch flying back close to Angel. He got up and lounged strait for her Larka's chest, swiftly, she dodges it letting Elch fly toward Olecha and Recha. Before having a chance to respond, Elch bounds toward Larka landing heavily on her chest pinning her. Their father barks again and Elch is sent with Recha. Larka is sent back with Angel and Kia.

Angel's stomach fluttered with energy and suddenly realized, who would she fight? She prayed it wasn't the father. But when Olecha nudged Elch and Recha to the center, the pups were baffled and looked at one another. Elch booted towards Recha and pounded her front legs. She nipped and barked but he slowly pinned her. Olecha barked and scooted Recha out to the rest of them and pushed Angel towards Elch. Angel could her the snickers and laughter of the others, suddenly Olecha snapped at them. Angels blood was pumping as she approached Elch.

Angel raced toward Elch, catching him off guard. He got back up and snapped at the small dog. She bolted near the edge of the clearing and saw she was being chased by him, she dashed, opened her wings and fluttered them sending her far above her siblings and father, they all stared in wow and awe as her wings let her soar over the clearing. She stumbled coming back down but managed to tuck her wings in and roll.

Olecha ran up to her licking her face and smiling. The others ran up behind him and stared at her wings and all expanded their own and admired them.

~

A few months passed and all the pups knew how to fly, hunt, and fight. But Juna soon fell ill and became weaker and weaker. Olecha took best care of her as he could with the help of the Healer of the pack, Secle. Angel admired Secle and offered to fetch medicine and anything else needed. Her mother slowly recovered as the pups got set for the choosing of their place in the pack.

Soon enough, Juna was well again and Olecha called for a pack meeting. He announced that the pup's positions would be chosen. Kia was the first to be called up. He swallowed and trotted up to his father, Olecha barked out that Kia was a hunter. The pack howled as Kia stumbled over to the pack. Next was Larka, she padded up to her father and he announced she was a hunter too. She embraced the howling and moved to the pack. Recha was chosen next, Angel could she her shake as she was nudged up to Olecha. He announced her as a fighter, she grinned and padded over to the pack. Elch was sitting tall and embracing the stairs as he walked up. He was chosen to be a fighter, which wasn't a surprise.

Angel knew her turn was next and she braced herself for the position. She took a breath and trotted up to her father. He hesitated and look at her then Juna. He announce that Angel was the Healer's apprentice. Angel looked at the pack and opened her wings and smiled. The howled and barked as she went to them. She was finally in the pack.

    Username:

    Kennel Number:

    Name of characters:
    Gethdradon and Alice

    Use for characters:
If I won these characters, I would be using them as personal characters. I would order art of them and they would be among if not top of my favorite humanoid characters. I really like the feeling I'm getting as I set off to work on their forms and I hope that I will be able bring them into life through words. I would be using them also in writing.
I have used Dante's circles of hell as inspiration for the set up of the underworld.

~ I'm the devil on your shoulder ~

    Name: Gethdradon
    Gender: Male
Species and/or specific breed: Humanoid Demon
    Personality:
Gethdradon has a very dry, sarcastic sence of humor and can come accross rather blunt, not being apt for sparing the feelings of others. That aside, he can be quite a charmer and knows when to flatter. Daring, he likes to take risks and is not one for taking the easy route or option. He is a trickster and is remarkably sly, taking it upon himself to fool humans and other mortals.
He is strangely quiet for the majority of time, prefering to think rather than discuss although when chance does take him, he likes to recall past great events and battles in detail and which an avid sense of affection and storytelling. This can make for an entertaining drink at any human bar. He does have a bad attitude towards work, in particular serving others and prefers to be left to his own devices.
As much as he protests about humans and their way of living, he has a soft spot for their hot tea with honey in it. In fact, he has developed quite a sweet tooth from human food and drink. He is also a fan of capes and admires although also mocks the humans' invention of superheros. He does not however like companion animals such as cats and dogs, finding they make him irritable at best.
Gethdradon does however have a more lighthearted side but this he only shows to others he deems equals, which can be a chore to find given his circumstances.

    History/Background:
Gethdradon was a rather tormented man who upon death found himself confined to the ninth ring of hell. He fought off the terrors and beasts there for a timeless age and remained quite sane, despite the catcalls and endless expanse of ice around him. He was lonely though, separated from others of his kind.
The king and rulers of the underground watched and paid sincere attention to him and his plight. They saw a way to take advantage and as they always did, they made him a deal. If he became their errand boy to call, he would be protected from the demons, have company with the other chosen few and be allowed to flit from hell to earth at will, for his own piteous pleasures. The outweighing factor was that if he performed well, he would be moved forth back though the circles. It would continue and he would finally have the chance to redeem his sordid actions and escape the darkness.
Gethdradon, being a risk-taker and keen to return to his homeland accepted their offer. From then on he was tethered to a chain, being yanked back to the ninth’s level whenever he was summoned for a chore. He was tasked among other things with the chore of bringing those who resisted the pull of hell. Those beings that were strong enough to resist death and the clutches of the afterlife. A thousand lives per level, they repeated to him. Just one more life to add to the tally.
He returned to earth several times and found it quite different, for many years had passed and his bloodline had long since died out. Traditions had changed and there were many strange contraptions and machines to attend with. He did not like it in this place. None the less, he had made an unbreakable promise and he had to return there, time and time again to drag those unfortunates back to hell with him.
Now, Gethdradon became quite a favourite of the king and had managed to wrestle his way up to the seventh level of hell. Many of his flock didn’t even make it back to the eighth before they had to be crushed underfoot. He was a promising student. Still though, he was weary of the bitter loneliness, having no one other than the other chosen few to share time with.
The king saw this and once more took it upon himself to test this creature he had in his grasp. He tasked Gethdradon with taking out a powerful witch. Not one of the ones confined to the sixth layer but one that the king wanted for himself, to twist and use for his bidding.
So once more Gethdradon left the darkness and went to fetch this woman that the king so admired. He was greeted though, by a girl. She was young, not even into her twenties yet. She looked remarkably plain, not like those that he was accustomed to being asked to chase down. There had to be a mistake.
No, though. It was her. For as soon as he showed that little bit of doubt, she took advantage of his hesitation and tried to work her black magic upon him. She was not to be victorious on this occasion though, for Gethdradon came with the power of hell behind him. A demon not conjured by her own magic.
She burned along with her belongings, her property. And so she too fell into the darkness. Her name was Alice.

~ I'm the conscious in your mind ~

    Name: Alice
    Gender: Female
    Species and/or specific breed: Ghost
    Personality:
Alice was not all too old when she died and still has a youngish attitude, easily excited and distracted by things around her. She loves her excursions to the human dimension with Gethdradon or Geth as she refers to him. She views it as an excape from the otherworld she has been placed into. Her favorite thing is the changing fashion that continually shapes its self around her. All she has to do is look at a passing human's clothes or into a shop window and she can immagine the garments onto herself. It seems pointless to Gethdradon, for no one can see her. It is even a common misconception that ghosts can see each other, except for the newly dead. Alice did always like to show off though.
She loves Gethdradon although she does often drift off on in the otherworld, drawn by spectral apparitions and voices towards the next circle of hell. She always returns to Gethdradon though, her willpower still being strong enough to pull her away from the gate and to his side. It has become an increasing concern for her that she will have to move on and leave without him though, for he is not permitted into the next circle.
Alice does have a grudge that she holds towards Gethdradon and at times of anxiety or anger she will recollect these memories with an unusual temper. She sometimes threatens that she will leave, just to see his reaction.
It is unlikely to end happily for her.

    History/Background:
The smoke was sickening, a pallid tinge of humanity adding to the already up-heaving mess. The smell of burning, ripe with the rich undertones of despair followed soon after. Then a sharp pain rooted at the base of her spine, which rolled with unyielding agony. The finishing touch it was the needling pain which jabbed at her legs and trailed in lazy patterns down her arms. Then a splash that echoed on cavern walls around her and the chilled water that made knots in her muscles.
She surfaced, spluttering and floundering in the freezing river, grasping for something to cling onto. The water was fast moving here and the undercurrent dragged her along with it. The banks of the river were too high to reach, mocking her from above, jagged spikes of rock and hanging moss. Against her the foaming reaches of the currant cackled and mocked, lapping at the edges of the embankments. Her limbs were sore with the effort of staying aloft, her ankles bruised by groping hands from below.
Then the river slowed, her feet finding the sandy floor below. Standing, she lurched forwards, stumbling over stone and muck to reach higher ground. It seemed hopeful, for the river had grown less thick and the deepness had all but gone. Ahead, the water grew to a steady trickle, unnaturally sudden it had to be noted. It led off into the dark, for it was predictably gloomy in this place. Above, the sky or what replaced it was black, a smog of foul sulfur. The ground was a tan color, faint tendrils of dust brushing this way and that across the deep cracks in its surface.
There was no notable landmark in sight, no greeter to beckon her forth to her destiny and fate. It seemed she must go unaccompanied into this hateful place. She decided that the most appropriate way would be to follow that thin, uninspiring path of water to find what was in store for her. So she went with it, quietly for she did not want to disturb the monsters that may lie in such a place as this.
Her clothes were sodden and seemed to lie upon me like a ton of bricks, trying to root her in place. She threw down my jacket, for it was bulky and had no use to her. Onward, she ever trudged.
The gates of Hell were not what she expected; for they were unkempt and made of a metal similar to that you would find if you were to enter her garden at home. Small, it a hand gate with little intricacy to them at all. She had desired something more fanciful but nether the less, a gate there stood. The small stream ran under it, seeming to vanish into the darkness behind it.
She wasn't a coward and had continued on this journey of her own accord, prepared for it as she had been. She placed her hand on the gate, which was warm to the touch, and swung it forwards. Then she stepped forth into the next circle of hell.

I will be here
when you think you’re all alone
Seeping through the cracks
I’m the poison in your bones
My love is your disease
I won't let it set you free
Til I break you

You’ll never know what hit you
Won’t see me closing in
I’m gonna make you suffer
This hell you put me in
I’m underneath your skin
The devil within
You’ll never know what hit you

I tried to be the lover to your nightmare
Look what you made of me
Now I’m a heavy burden that you can’t bear
Look what you made of me
Look what you made of me
I’ll make you see

Kennel Number: These lovely beauties reside in Kennel two eighty-two. (282)
Use: I've wanted these two since they were donated. Why? Because they remind me so much of my two friends, Garret and Alice, who were killed in a car crash by a drunk driver. If I get them (which I'm praying I do), I'll use them in comics, art, stories...The possibilities are endless, really. I'd make pkushies of them (which I've already started), enter them in art competitions, and do so much more if you'd just give me the opportunity to have them as not characters, but a memorial of Garret McKinley and Alice Fleming.
- About the character -
Name: Gethdradon and Alice.
Gender: Male and Female.
Species and/or specific breed: Human-like demon and ghost.
Personality:
Gethdradon
Gethdradon, or Garret, as he's called in his "human" disguise, is in a word, sadistic. He's a cold-hearted killer that loves nothing more than to torment his victims, usually ending in terrible, bloody deaths. But, truth be told, Gethdradon is a man of few words. He hates talking unless it's to his fiance, Alice. And don't even get me started on how he acts around her. In short, he's a babbling, blushing mess.
So, in a few words, Gethdradon is caring, yet sadistic.
Alice
Alice is a kind, caring soul that loves her fiance more than anything in the world. She hates violence and adores animals. But don't be fooled by her kind, caring exterior. In reality, she's just as sadistic as Gethdradon is! She'll torment her victims, but she apologizes and never kills them.
So, in a sense, she's just like her fiance: caring, yet sadistic.
History/Background:
They should have never been there in the first place.
The cold, harsh wind whipped through their hair as Gethdradon drove, miles zipping by. Alice looked out the convertible window, biting her lip nervously. "Honey, I don't think this is such a good idea," she said quietly.
Her boyfriend looked to her and smiled, chuckling. "Don't worry, Ally," he said, placing a hand on hers, grasping it lightly and intertwining their fingers. "After this, we won't have to worry about them tearing us apart again."
Alice gave a small smile and kissed her boyfriend on his cheek, earning a blush. "I love you," she whispered.
"I love you too," he whispered back, reaching into his pocket to pull out--
The next few seconds went by in a blur. First the old blue mustang, speeding by at about ninety miles per hour. Alice's scream echoed through the wind as the cars collided, a symphony of crashes and bangs sounding out in the midnight breeze. Then silence, as the other driver stumbled out drunkenly, starting to run away.
....
Scene change, at the hospital.
Gethdradon paced around nervously, mumbling to himself. He looked to his girlfriend in the hospital bed, machines hooked up to her left and right. He stepped forward, placing his hand on the glass solemnly.
The sound of someone clearing his throat brought Gethdradon back to reality. He looked over to see a man in a white coat, stethoscope hung round his neck. "Are you Mr. McKinley?" he asked gruffly.
"Yes, Garret McKinley," Gethdradon lied smoothly. "I-Is Alice going to be alright?" His look of worry deepened, a frown plastered to his face.
"Unfortunately, no," the doctor said. "If she gets out of this alive, she'll be paralyzed from the neck down for the rest of her life."
It felt like someone had thrown a harsh blow to his stomach. Gethdradon winced at the thought of his beloved Alice, lying in a bed all day, never accomplishing any of her dreams. She'd never start a family of her own, never be able to walk again, not even to be able to--
"Dr. Shaw," a voice snapped worriedly. "Y-you might want to come see this."
The doctor looked into the room and looked back down solemnly. He entered the room without a word, where the rapid beeping of a machine called to Gethdradon's attention. "W-what's going on?" he asked, tears brimming at his eyes when the beeping finally dulled into one long shriek.
Dr. Shaw sighed, looking up at Gethdradon. "...I'm sorry. She's gone."
...
Scene change, at Alice's funeral.
Gethdradon looked gravely towards the open casket, the sounds of crying echoing through his ears. He placed a hand on Alice's, smiling sadly as her broken body lay curled up, dead to the known world.
"I love you," he whispered, tears rolling down his cheeks.
"....I love you too."

Story:
Gethdradon wrote:The cries of the small animals alerted me that there was someone coming. I looked up, my ears pinned back, when I paused. It was a little girl, perhaps thirteen, standing there, staring into the cell curiously. I guess curiosity got the better of her, for she stepped a bit closer, clutching her teddy bear tightly.
I stiffened, but tried my best to stay calm and polite. "Hello there," I called, startling her.
The little girl shuffled her feet quietly, looking down and uttering, "H-hello."
I chuckled, stepping towards the edge of the cage. "What's the matter, kid?" I asked. "Cat got your tongue or something?"
The girl smiled sheepishly and mumbled, "N-no, I'm just really shy, 's'all. I-I don't have a lot of friends, and the ones I did have died last month."
I froze. "...I-I'm really sorry for your loss," I murmured. "I...I didn't--"
"Know? Nobody knew them," she mumbled softly.
I frowned slightly, stepping closer to the girl and saying, "Well I could be your friend."
"Really?" the little girl said excitedly, bouncing up and down. I chuckled.
"As long as you don't forget to feed us," I joked. "Now go adopt us!"

(Not exactly, as I edited this to fit the occasion, but this is how I met my dear friends Garret and Alice.)
