Sol suggested that he and Spottedleaf explore the fields at the Park today. Given the recent heatwave, Spottedleaf didn't see the appeal, but agreed nonetheless. Her nonexistent enthusiasm diminished further when she saw the usually lush fields, now yellowed and dry. Rather than get dead grass and burrs in her coat, she decided to stay put while Sol happily frolicked. He emerged sometime later, covered in dried plant life, and accompanied by a new friend.

It was a hot day, and neither Squirrel nor Squinx wanted to be outside right then. Upon their arrival at the Park, Sara promptly found a nice patch of shade to lie down in; hoping it would offer some relief from the unrelenting sun. Cocoa wanted to squeeze in next to them to share the spot, but they were ignored completely. Eventually giving up out of frustration, Cocoa ventured deeper into the Park to find a shady spot for themselves. After some time they found an oak with low growing branches, and sprawled lazily beneath it was a Stray! It invited Cocoa to share in the shade before rolling on their back and returning to their nap.

Upon their arrival at the Park, it became immediately apparent to the both of them that not many animals were out that day, and what few were were busy trying to cool off. Papa was eager for the excuse to lay around, and quickly settled beneath a nearby bush to get some shut-eye. But Lilith wasn't bothered by the heat, and trotted happily out to enjoy the empty Park. Usually so crowded, this was a rare opportunity she wasn't going to waste! While playfully chasing some field mice, Lilith nearly bumped into another feline who'd had the same idea. She was surprised when she realized it was in fact a Stray she'd about run into, but quickly relaxed when she realized she was in no danger. They both laughed it off and spent the rest of the day playing.

Nebula and Silver decided that the only way to beat the heat was to go for a swim. It was surprising how few others had thought to cool off at the pond; but Silver reasoned that they must not have wanted to make the long trek through the Park. The two of them played happily in the shallows for some time, only wading out when they heard their names being called from some ways off. When Silver shook out their pelt however, they soaked Nebula, and a bout of laughter greeted their ears. Silver looked around curiously as Nebula shook themselves dry again, and they promptly spotted a Stray whom had been basking on the rocks; now watching them. They spoke together until Nebula joined them, and ultimately invited the Squitten to come back with them.

Diego was eager to go out that morning, and didn't waste a second before bounding off into the Park. He ran happily to the tree line, passing by the other animals who were napping in the shade. He eventually came to a small clearing deep in the woods, one which he always came to play. But usually so full of other Squittens and Squinx, he found it deserted. He patiently waited for someone, anyone else, to show up; sitting eagerly in the clearing and looking around. But as time passed, his excitement started to fade as he realized he was the only one wanting to play. He kicked at a stick forlornly, wondering if he should just go home. Then, a rustling in the bushes struck his ears, and he turned sharply to see another Squitten stepping out into the clearing! It was a Stray, but that didn't deter him as he ran over, jumping around them happily. The two of them played together until they were exhausted, and Diego invited them to come back with him when it was time to go.

Gargoyle had heard rumors of a cave near the start of the river which ran through the Park. Until then, Blackstar hadn't been willing to explore it. But the day's heat, and the prospect of a cool cave by the water -- well, it sounded suddenly appealing. The two of them set off down the river in search of this fabled cave; Gargoyle leading determinedly, and Blackstar lagging behind and stopping for several breaks. It felt like years before they reached it, but eventually they found it: the cave! Nestled under a gravel walking path, it was perfectly round, and blue; water from the other side must've flowed through it and into the river at one point, but it looked to have dried up now. Excitedly, Gargoyle bounded inside before Blackstar could protest; their gray fur dissolving into the darkness immediately. Only second later as Blackstar anxiously paced back and forth, a yowl echoed towards them, and Gargoyle bolted back out into the daylight; their fur on end and eyes wide. Blackstar didn't have a chance to ask what was wrong before a Stray stumbled drowsily out of the pipe; their nap having been disturbed. The two of them laughed together while Gargoyle fought to smooth their fur, but their heart was still pounding from tripping over the Stray in the dark.
