His claws caught the ground and propelled his lithe body forward at startling speeds. His bright green eyes were squeezed shut and a confident smirk spread across his maw. His element, a white fire that glowed with intesity much like his own spirit, arched along his spine and left a smoldering trail behind him. He had no destination in mind, no goal. All he had on his mind was speed. Raw, unhindered, speed. He traveled where his feet would take him, wherever the wind called to him.

Now, however, his paws carried him to a land he had rarely seen. His emerald eyes settled on the changing horizon. Before him, trees were beginning to appear. First just randomly, then in patches. He was finally forced to slow down into a small trot as the trees grew too thick to run in.

He swung his head from side to side, taking in the new area with the excitement of a kitten. He had traveled far from the typical hot plains he had called home. Now he was in the forest, a hot, humid, dense rainforest. However, he was not alone. He tan ears flicked at the strange new sounds of birds and small mammals that were inhabiting the trees above him.

He was too busy watching the display above him to notice he was stumbling into someone else's territory.

He watched the intruder Acinonyx with cool, gold eyes. It had been sometime since he had seen another soul enter his domain. Centuries even, since it was an Acinonyx. He shifted ever so slightly so he could watch the strange, blue Acinonyx pad around his temple. Only then did he notice the vines that had grown across his body. He sniffed at one of the vines in puzzlement. How long had he been there?

His mind flashed to the time when this temple was once great. He was young then, as he watched his family pad away from the temple. He remember trying to follow them, only to be chased back by his father. He had to stay, he had a duty. With a broken heart and a body trembling in fear, he had watched his family get swallowed by the trees. He hadn't seen them since.

He remembered growing to his prime, and yet still he perched on the temple. After a while, he had slumbered, the runes on his body kept him from wasting away as he 'slept' the centuries away. Over time, the forest had tried to reclaim his temple and, eventually, him as if he too was part of the temple.

He shivered at the thought of forever being a statue of the temple and slowly, numbly got to his feet. The vines and creepers snapped and broke as he stretched his muscles in a display of power and to get the life flowing back into his limbs. The only vines that remained was on his element. The earth tendril creapt along his spine, as if the temple was still unwilling to let go of its long time statue. Of course his little scene didn't go unnoticed.

Below the lightening blue Acinonyx stared up at rune etched male, his emerald eyes sparkling with energy and life. He watched as temple cat descended the crumbled steps and paused infront of the new male. The blue male dipped his head respectively, clearly recognizing the other's age and hidden power. "Greetings. Sorry to intrude, I didn't know anyone lived here." He said, nodding towards the temple. "My name is SonicWind, but you can call me Sonic if you wish."

"Greetings...Sonic." The brown Acin rumbled. His voice sounded broken from not being used for so long. "I am called Malik." He dipped his head, his front paw extending forth along the ground in his ceremonial way of greeting visitors. "I have not seen others in many seasons and it would be nice to converse with someone after so long." He rumbled, his voice growing stronger with each syllable and it resonated in his chest.

Sonic tilted his head, his brow creasing. "You have...been here for..many seasons?" He asked, looking towards the temple in horror. He had traveled far and wide with only the wind as company. He couldn't fathom the idea of sticking to these ruins. Not by himself anyways.

"I have inhabited this place all my life. It is my duty to guard the temple." He said, watching the look of confusion sweep over the younger ones face.

"You've never left? Ever?" Sonic hopped up when the older one shook his head. "But there is a whole world out there! He fluffed his fur and his element flared with his intensity. "Why don't you travel with me? I know this," He paused and nodded towrds the temple, "this is your home. But there is more out there than this temple. Don't you think you have suffered alone by yourself?"

Malik flinched at his words, but in his heart he knew they were true. He turned his golden eyes towards temple. It was his home...no..it was his prison. Here he had been scorned and rejected to live a miserable existance alone for some duty he didn't really understand. No, today was the day he would change all of this. He would choose his own duty and his own destiny now.

He settled his gaze back on Sonic. His brow furrowed with determination. "I will go with you."
