8D Meh Contest Story!!!!
Username: aseka
What will you name the pet: Sundance
Why are you joining the contest: The Foxeh is pretty and I like her. I also enjoy writing stories and wanted to make one up for her.
Your story: This is SAD!!!
A small hungry cry echoed out of a small den in the woods. The cry had been doing so for days. The sound was of a young pup, not yet old enough to walk. The pup was growing weak. There was nothing the mother could do. She sat near the entrance to the den, listening to the cry as she had done for days now. She knew she should move on, she herself was slowly dying from starvation but her mothering instinct wouldn't let her leave while the pup was still alive. So she waited and searched for food in the woods nearby but there was never anything.
She had stopped going into the den, unable to watch the pup waste away. She hadn't meant to give birth here. The pup came earlier than it was suppose too. She whimpered as the cry came again, weaker this time. This was the way of the wild, she knew it all to well. This was not the place to give birth and her pup would lose it little life because of it. She would move on, that just the way it worked. She lay watching the den, listening for the tiny occupant. She wouldn't leave until the pup's life had fled and the pup was much to weak to be moved.
She laid for hours, listening to the slowly weakening cries until they finally stopped all together. She got up and entered the den, listening intently as her eyes adjusted to the gloom. She found the pup among the damp bedding and nuzzled it, whimpering. The pup didn't respond, it was cold. It was finally dead, left this cruel world for what lay beyond. She picked up the pup and took it outside. She buried it under a tree and there it would stay. A place with no prey didn't have predators either. She sat next to the tree all night, cold and shivering but still unable to leave the pup just yet.
The sun broke the horizon when the mother shook herself. She was free now, the pup was somewhere better. She would continue on, that was the way of the wild. There would be other pups, there would be other sunrises. She trotted toward the horizon, knowing she would live. She knew where she was going and how to get there, she was still sad she couldn't take the pup with her but the sadness would pass as it does for all wild things. She was Sundance, she would survive.
